Title: Bitcoin Gold newbie questions
Post by: very_452001 on October 12, 2017, 11:37:28 PM
Is bitcoin gold safe with replay and wipeout protection?

What date hard fork is happening?

Which exchanges will give free airdrop of bitcoin gold straight away or late october?

What value you think bitcoin gold will be when it is on the exchanges for the first time and which way is the quickest to dump bitcoin gold?

I don't know the answer to many of your questions. but I believe Binance stated they will distribute Bitcoin Gold. I believe the fork is happening around 25th of October.
As for dumping the gold, some believe that it is best to hold until after the hard fork next month, in the case of something going wrong it may become very valuable.

Can you go into more detail on how the BTCgold would become valuable in case of an issue?

About the first question, yes bitcoin gold has replay protection, at least that is what I read, second the fork is happening in October 25, third I do not know it is better that you check since different exchanges are going to have different policies and fourth you can check if in some exchanges they already have future markets and the value they have, that way you can check the price people think the coin is going to have after the fork.

1) There is currently no replay protection with bitcoin gold. It is currently in development per the developer, even though it is not contained on GitHub as of right now.

2) October 25

3) Don't keep your bitcoin on an exchange unless it specifically announces that it will support the airdrop. If you have your Bitcoins on an exchange, the exchange MAY credit you with your Bitcoin Gold at some point in time.

4) People will be rushing to dump their bitcoin gold. Unlike bitcoin cash, which had a large following who really believe(d) in it and wanted to buy more and hold, this is not really the case with bitcoin gold. EVERYONE is looking to dump and i know of no one that wants to buy. That means your bitcoin gold is going to be worth very little and even worth less once the dumping occurs. Smart money won't care about bitcoin gold and will be buying cheap alt coins PRIOR to the fork. So all the people who plan to dump immediately and then buy back their alts.....the show will have already started without them. Any small profit people will have made from "free" bitcoin gold will have been lost in the missed opportunity of the alts that already rose before they had time to "dump and buy".
For those who are just bitcoin hodlers, it will be small profits but still a small amount of free money is something. This also comes at the risk of losing all your bitcoin if there are issues with the code (intentional or not). It's a small risk, but one that might not be worth taking for people with large amounts of bitcoin.

This is sound advice. For bitcoin gold it is not worth dumping altcoins for. It is just a copycat of bitcoin cash and there isn't room for 2 clones, people will just dump the gold version and stick with the cash.

I won't be dumping Bitcoin Gold straight away. I did this with Bitcoin Cash and lost some profit. I sold BCC as soon as it was available for trading on Kraken but it was a wrong decision. I sold it for around 200 USD per one BCC (it was around 0.06 BTC at that time) but as you know the price climbed all the way up to 1000 USD.
I can't be sure that it will be the same with Bitcoin Gold but I do have this feeling. There will be wales who will wait for good price because people will be dumping and then they will start buying and cause the price to grow. Wait for a few days or one week and then sell your Gold.

Yes, the fork is going to happen on October 25th, i am so excited waiting for it, and seriously, i am very impacient about it.
But i will dump them a few hours after getting them on my wallet (which i dont know which one i will use to receive my bitcoin gold) but it doesnt matter the price, i will sell them anyway because i dont trust in that coin.
Just like it happened with bitcoin cash, from $200, to $800, and from $800 to $300 ATM's price

So will bitcoin gold have replay protection or not on the Oct 25th  ???

Apart from Binance exchange which other exchanges will credit with free bitcoin gold airdrop and allow me to dump it quickly?

Theres 2 upcoming hard forks coming up soon bitcoin gold and segwit2x, what timing will smart traders you for these? When segwit 2x hardfork is happening?

So before and after bitcoin gold hardfork and before and after segwit 2x hard fork where will the smart buys and smart sells be placed between these?

Bitcoingold is just another alt coin some people said it is scam. It is using zcash algorith which is can not be mine with bitcoin miner. It will be able for only gpu and cpu mining. Its totally different with bitcoin even tho the coin circullation will be se as bitcoin. In fact whale whic has many bitcoin did not care about bitcoin gold. They car3 about segwit2x.

Is that true? this my first time to hear about the bitcoin gold will have used the zcash algorithm and that makes the bitcoin gold lost its credibility. rather than bitcoin fork and i like to call that as another shit token just like ebtc.

The most common one that I came across most times is 'what date is the fork happening', but I read that bitcoin you shouldn't keep your bitcoins at an exchange wallet or any third party, rather withdraw to your wallet so that you can be able to claim.

1) There is currently no replay protection with bitcoin gold. It is currently in development per the developer, even though it is not contained on GitHub as of right now.

3) Don't keep your bitcoin on an exchange unless it specifically announces that it will support the airdrop. If you have your Bitcoins on an exchange, the exchange MAY credit you with your Bitcoin Gold at some point in time.

What you are saying is nothing but the truth, I just feel like most investors are currently dumping their altcoins so that they can claim bitcoin gold, after they will dump bitcoin gold for bitcoin. They value will then dump, IMO, I think if you will be claiming bitcoin gold, don't hold it for long since the value might end up dumping to zero. Rather do what other investors are doing which is dump.

I think the wise thing to do now is to buy into altcoins. Its a good thing that bitcoin is increasing in value and they are decreasing, you just buy as many as you can now, and hold for a few months to start making your profit.

Seems like Trezor is still waiting for a secure implementation for the two-way replay protection. Let's hope that Bitcoin Gold will provide it fast enough, so that Trezor could implement it. Source: https://twitter.com/TREZOR/status/920631561384538113

Do you guys think it's a bad idea to buy some Bitcoin before Oct, 25 to claim some free BT Gold?

If it is priced at about BCH (which many are sceptical about), it would give me, say, $20 worth free tokens on purchasing 0.044 ($250) of Bitcoin?

Not too bad, it seems.

Or not worth it?

it is a very risky move "now".
looking at bitcoin charts, we already can see a big rise in bitcoin which ended up setting a new ATH for bitcoin. and now price is in consolidation phase. there may be wild fluctuations and some testing of bottom resistance.
in other words price may go down. so if you want to buy just to get the BTG reward you may lose some money. for example if you buy at $5500 price may go down to $4990
on top of it BTG price may not be as big as you'd expect it to be since it is not even half hyped as BCH!

Bitcoin gold's teams has created a website and it has never been up dated as at the time I open it. Therefores you should be carefull in other not to experience replay. like others posters has said here 25 of october is going to be the day of the hardfork. Another thing that you should know is that except there is going to be free coins few people are going to trade their bitcoin and altcoins for bitcoin gold. Hope  this will impact bitcoin core price as it happened in August 2017 during the bitcoins cash hardfork and splitting issues.

Thanks.

It seems a smarter move then is to wait for a BTC drop: buying at $4990, one would earn that $25 just by waiting for it to reach $5600 again.

And that without sharing private keys to anyone when claiming BT Gold, which probably is not the safest move that puts yourself at risk for a low profit.

I'll probably follow your advice: buying BTC at approx ATH is not the best thing one can do... For a higher profit, maybe, but not when 10% is "optimistic". Not worth it.

Will wait for a more favorable moment to buy then. Thank you again 8)

----

You can check this path: https://btcgpu.org/

1. I think not, the current dev team took code of Bitcoin Cash to replay protection on Bitcoin Gold but it still exists many bug.
2. Bitcoin Gold is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain that will occur on October 25, 2017
3. here is a huge Chinese exchange support for BTG - HitBTC
4. I think the price of BTG about 1 - 50 USD

Just purchase Bitcoin now because if the hard fork happens you won't lose that much money. In fact, you would have more Bitcoin than you started off with.

What the hell are you saying? some exchange already made official announcement to support the bitcoin gold trade in the future. Binance still become recomended choice for that and i was expecting the bitcoin cash history will be back again.

I also think that hardfork will happen on October 25th. However, I do not expect too much on what is going to happen. For me, bitcoin core is enough for everything to work well.
