It has already been discused a lot of times in this board, but yes, a lot of people are investing in icos and a lot no. most people in here doesnt like ico's because it is a very risky investment, and so many users have lost a lot of money because of them.
Only the most newbie users are investing in there, because they want quick profit once that the token gets listed on an exchange, but it is a very risky process and a lot of icos need some time before getting listed on a good exchange like cryptopia or bittrex.
but no, i dont use to invest in icos.

First you have to understand yourself. Are you a long-term investors? or just investor-like trader?

If you are a long-term investor, you should choose security tokens but you MUST do a research and deeply understand the potential of the project before you put any amount of money. Remember that its development is your money, support them, get a profit.

But, if you are a money flipper, or trader actually but pretending to be an investor. no need to care security or utility. why? you can easily profit or loss because most of this kind of investors never want to support any project developement. All they want is money! just money!

So. everything is to be understood before you take any action.

I like to invest in ico, but not always, because in ico we can immediately get a bonus. I think buying tokens in ico is a long-term investment, because after the distribution of token prices must be cheap and dumped out by bounty hunter. It takes time for developers to stabilize their token prices.

Note: Do not just think about the benefits alone, think about the risk of investing in ico. Do research or analysis as well as discussion of the project before you invest in its ico.

Actually, Investing on ICO's was not too different with investing on bitcoin and other altcoin. its a risky investment . But most of people are seeing ICO's as a scams, and yes, Some of them was. Thats why, before you investiong to an ICO, you need to read about the project, knowing the project, make a research on it . Ico are not for those who are new in cryptocurrency. Even other's say so. Investing in Ico needs a lot of patience, cause its need time to give you profit. So just Assume that you give them a loan with a spesific interest, and when the time comes, they will pay full + interest in one time.

you should really do your research well. you should see in detail the existing team behind the ICO. And it must be clear white paper in ICO.

I will only invest in coins/projects that have really nice whitepaper and some working beta product or prototype.
I don't just invest in them after clicking banner ads displayed all over the internet, if they are launching their platform after almost a year than its not worth to invest in them and wait for more than a year to be able to cashout.

You are absolutely right about the risk about most ICOs, which is why we actaully use most of the money to buy the asset that's backing our coin.
Like that, even in the worst case scenario, the coin holders can redeem their coins for the asset itself (which can be traded/ sold/ used).

In the start it I thought it useless to invest in ICO but when for the first time I invest in ICONOMI and got the great result I started to invest in other ICOs too and then I found this way as a great way to earn bigger profit with a short time period. I now do not trade much but when a new promising ICO come I invest in it on the first day and when they put the coin on exchange I sell them all earning the whole discount rate.

For getting informed I often visit the altcoin announcement section for knowing about upcoming ICOs. I also get informed on the services section when new signature campaign is started.

I think to invest in ICO is a good idea. However, you should be very cautious and study carefully the who information about the project. You should pay attention to the amount and type of content displayed on the website. A good ICO will ALWAYS have quality and in-depth information which clearly explains what the particular ICO is all about. Then you should pay attention to the information about the founder and the team. It is very important that the ICO be founded by someone who has had prior experience in the relative field along with a team of strong developers and legal advisors. LinkedIn and Medium in particular are great places to check out the professional background of the ICO team and their expertise. Then they should also have a very good whitepaper. You can also see which large fonds and investors have decided to be a part of the Initial Coin Offering. And you can also learn about escrow or other ways to protect investors. You can also pay attention to professional reviews and rates in the rating agencies.
So, if you study everything in detail you can make a good profit from investing into an ICO.

As I've voted on the pole I really expect an ICO to be special and promising al leaf for myself before investing any money. The problem is that it's hardly possible to make out which one is really going to become is success and doesn't just look to be being cut for that- so the problem is how do we detect that- and I'm still unsure about the best way myself.

The way I'm getting aware of new ICO's? I can check icoalert or read about it hear on bitcointalk or somewhere on Forbes, for example

I like to have a filtering process. I mostly go with ICO's that have a clear problem/solve strategy. Allot of ICOs aren't worth the time though. It may seem great but thats mostly on paper, practically its far more difficult. You have to account that most startups fail and I don't see that any different for crypto.

Some ICO's that I invested in lately:

Substratum, Electroneum, Soferox (Soferox was a bit of a gamble, didn't read anything.) But hey.. its my money..

Substratum was more a case of that I liked the Idea behind it and I can't really give a fly if it tanks or goes up cause I believe in the core principles.
Plus they we're having a hurricane relief pot (10% of purchase) and I think that is great. On top of that I might get a free T-Shirt so I'm happy!

Electroneum was I guess the only one I looked seriously at and bought in because of its potential utility it has.

I have only one upcoming ICO that I will be investing in because I think the application could be enormous and it has a professional/experienced team behind it.

I prefer investing in existing coins because atm there's a bit of an ICO craze so it really has to be worthwhile. Lots of people looking for cheap deals to turn into instant profit.
Can't blame them though.
Substratum was hodled by the community and I think thats a big plus. Shows commitment and believe in its core value's of what its trying to solve as a currency.

DAO casino? Gambling ICO's are overall unprofitable. Best is to see if they have good dividend payouts and else I wouldn't go anywhere near those.
There are allot of good ICO's though but I'd say to have some economic insight is a great advantage.
Every ICO will present itself as the best but reality proves different. I find that it helps to be very pessimistic about every ICO at first so you're skeptical and ask questions.
If you can answer those questions and prove yourself wrong thats a big plus.

When it comes to investing there are certain things that you should consider and one is to have a research in each coins you encounter. Having a knowledge on how each ico's made a project and how promising it will be will let you determine and make you trust them.

The concern about losing money is a very valid one. I wrote an whole article about why investing in ICOs should be looked at differently. You can read it here   https://www.kela.io/the-coin-that-wont-make-you-rich.html (http://https://www.kela.io/the-coin-that-wont-make-you-rich.html)

It's also why we are buying actual diamonds via our parent company's network (Live Rates Feeds), so that even if something bad happens, the coin holders can redeem the coins for the diamonds.

every day become more difficult to find a good projects, almost 50% are scam, and you just lose ur money. It's always risky, but sometimes it worth it.
I chose tactics - try to invest in projects from my country, where I clearly understand the idea and stages of it implementing. And very important for me is recommendations from person, who already successful in investing.

With so many ICOs coming everyday, its impossible to find and invest in a good one. I only invest in those which look promising even from the outside, only if they look good from outside then I do more research on them and decide whether to invest or not. But honestly I don't invest much, most of projects are waste of time and money.

Do you invest? my answer: NOT at all

Why? I’m more of a worker than an investor. I joined bounty for a payment from ICO, does this important as investors? Yes, they do work hand in hand. How can an ICO or company be recognized without the information dissemination campaign it’s either social media, video, blog and signature bounty.

Greetings.
To be general I think ICO is a way for early birds to take advantage of cheap coins and for this reason I only invest on ICO's that are very promising, specially those crowd sales where team is solid and have good roadmap. Besides being an investor, I am a worker as well but I rarely apply on bounty campaigns because I only join them when I see a great potential for a coin to be in a hefty price in the future.

That is how ico are risky so i don't invest always because i just invest when i think that it is a great project with a solid team and a great vision for their project.

Title: Re: Survey! Investing in ICO

I'm very sceptical about new ICOs nowadays. There are so many coins that seem to only want some attention so that the developers can do a quick dump of their coins and get rich. However, if I really like the concept behind the coin then I might give it some more thought. My first step then is to look at the developers, their history, and why I think they could make the project successful. If I don't see them as fit to make it into a success I just leave it at that, but if they seem capable then I might continue to estimate a market size, look closer at their strategy and such.

Everyday there are many projects that are open to the public, but how to evaluate and choose the right project for you. My approach would be to evaluate the foundation of the project, if the project partnered with banks or had the support of expert advisors as possible. And of course not everyone can recognize that

I researched a lot before investing in an ICO, taking into consideration of the market cap, team, product etc. However there are still some luck element involved. The market may not think the same as you are, and sometimes, it might be cheaper to pick up the coins after ICO as a lot of popular ones actually go under the ICO price.

My interest in ico began when i saw some of the post of my friends that he had earn a good amount of money in investing in ico. My curiosity began then starting to learn how can i earn with it then it's not simple on my views because you need to study first the company and their whitepaper, who's behind it. Some icos can't perform well after their ico. So we need to study well to avoid losing our money.

I only judge projects by the potential they have. I look at team, founders, idea, existing platform, viability of the idea itself, and the tech.

So far there's been a lot of trash out there. Only 1% of ICO's are good. Unikoingold is one of them. Shame that some people hate a billionaire tech mogul (Mark Cuban) for investing into a company that he believes in lol. Eff the the haters

I think investing in ico is a the best way to make profits from a coin if u are in it from the long haul but u don't just invest because it's an ico.u have to believe in the project and stay with it through thick and thin because believe me there is going to be a lot of ups and downs.but if u stay true to ur believe of the project u probably reap the benefits of us conviction

After investing in a lot of Promising ICO's I have come to a conclusion on how will I invest in ICO's further.

I would invest only in ICO's that shows promise and doesnt allow accredited users with crazy bonus, who will dump right after it hits the exchange, 99% chances are that you can buy the same even lower than ICO price, irrespective of how promising the project looks.

Consider the likes of Blockmason, Blackmoon Crypto and many others. Always invest in ICO's which hasn't provided any bonus to some accredited inverstors.

Once regulators step in to fix this ICO mess the bubble will burst everyone will dump their ETH and that would be the end of the whole ICO era, that or a fatal bug in smart contracts will have the same effect.

Exactly for me it seems also very promising if an ICO doesn't allow this bs Boni for the participants bcs it sometimes seems more like  gambling than an ICO!

I invest in ICO hoping for the growth of the project in the long term. I think it makes no sense to buy the coin and sell it a week after release on the market. If the project is really good, then a year later he will give you a huge profit.

ASSETRON ENERGY Token Sale is on now - an Australian company developing a blockchain p2p Investments platform for renewable energy.

This project will not only make it affordable for business or community to afford their own renewable energy - especially when they can't get a loan (ones that pay more than 10k USD per quarter in power)

The investors will receive passive income from their investments, which is also done through cryptocurrency - so lower taxes, fees and more profits.
