we don't have so many currencies.
* we have fiat and then we have bitcoin.
* then there are some altcoins like Litecoin and Monero that have been trying to act as a currency, they succeed a little.
* then we have lots of "tokens". just numbers on the screen created for trading alone.
* then we have lots of different "tokens" like ETH that are not even supposed to be a currency but people mistake them for a currency.

Well this is what I've been trying to show people in this community for the longest time, we won't in any way shape or form benefit from having multiple currencies. It's not going to help anyone that we have tens of thousands of altcoins that can do this this and this, but aren't used by a single soul. If all of these people rallied behind Bitcoin and provided news time for Bitcoin we'd be even higher in price and we'd have more people actually using it, but no, we have tons of Altcoins that are shit.

No reason, just greed for the developers that make these shitcoins and sell them in mass amounts.

There must be a thousand cryptos right now. Answer is: because anyone can make one. It also mean loads of them are scams.
If you invest, I recommend to stick to the 50 biggest ones.

What you say can be very simple but big business guys do not think so. To create a single currency requires a great deal of money to set up. Not all customers know and want to use virtual currency as a form of payment, although it is more convenient than conventional but the use and purchase is too complicated.

If your telling about crypto currency then there is less like litecoin , doge , eth some more most of other currencies which you called will token mostly build using different blockchain technology like eth, waves or nem platform which will be using the ability to create tokens inside the platform so that each transaction will be transparent and decentralised so that no authority can change the transaction data. There is lots of business and other solution giving token as shares or asset which you can convert to btc or eth in exchanges.

Starting in 2013, and every year since then hundreds of crypto currencies or tokens have been created.

That's four straight years of so many currencies/altcoins/scamcoins being made.

2013

2014

2015

2016

2017

How come Bitcoin continues to be the strongest and most secure and most trusted and most globally distributed despite this fact?

This is a great question!

First, "We" won't benefit from all these currencies, we'll benefit from the few (less than 10) that are currently established and offer unique benefits from each other.

Second, smaller groups of people may, may benefit from a specific currency based on their affiliation to the firm or entity that produced the currency, add all those small groups up and you have a lot of people benefiting from a lot of currencies but the relationship isn't one to many, it's one to one. E.g., think of hotel loyalty rewards points being converted to a crypto-currency token - now you earn the tokens at the same rate, but you can also buy more tokens or sell your tokens on the open market...you're not stuck having to use them if you don't need to

Third, ICOs (initial coin offerings) are being used by companies (startups mostly) as a way to raise capital and serves as an alternative to having ads in an app or charging for "in app purchases", instead you have these tokens that are you can redeem for goods or services offered by the company but you're not tied to them, they can be traded for other tokens to get other benefits and other companies.

not all token are currencies some of them are disguise a currency and some of them is a scam if you buy currency in the low price check it out first because some of them is shit coin that if you have done to buy you realize that there's have no value..so its better to research carefuuly to buy....

There are many new currencies up and coming as well and the speed is going much faster. However there are also a lot of currencies that came out with the intention to scam. Do beware

Their are token not currencies, The only considered crypto currency in digital world is bitcoin and fiat. If you notice ETH, WAVES, Monero, Dogecoin and ect. are all transferable to bitcoin and USD meaning this all coin is considered as token because they are used by ICO's as toke or coin. Some ICO and blockchain create there own token or coin but not currency.

There are so many currencies because it is the trend right now. There may actually be less than 10 who has true value right now and are actually use by people. Others are just for speculation purposes. There are coins that are abandoned already by developers thus it has no value anymore and there are many ICOs who end up being scam. So far bitcoin has been the most famous of all because it has usage in the real world like purchasing products and pay for services.

Today I purchased oatmeal directly from a mill at their website.
This mill sells its products thru grocers and other online stores as well.
They probably gave 3% to the credit card company, which they could reduce by using blockchain.
But if every store and every business starts creating their own currency, then I will have to go thru an exchange to convert BTC or ETH to that coin to make some purchase.
Then we would need miners to process all those transactions in various coins.
Why can't they just use ETH? Just like all IPOs use dollars.
Thanks in advance

That's the specialty of cryptos, they don't want to use eth and there is a clear profit motive behind it, how it works is that it takes a couple of hundred dollars to create a crypto because entering data into blockchain is easy, like they say. Then the company issues the crypto to the investors in return of eth and after the ico ends the coin may be listed on a terrible exchange which won't profit the investors, but it increases the profitability of the owner.

some bitcoin users already looking for that anonymity right now. and in the future there will be more but it will never be the majority.
that is just my opinion but i believe that majority of users are not looking for the high level of anonymity that coins like Monero offer. additionally it has scaling issues!
and also when everyone looks bad on these full anon coins (like government) and think them for illegal activities, regular users won't be so happy to jump on board with them.

Very well said mate. Thousands of tokens out there and people still want more. The mere fact that investing in ICOs and tokens would make them good profit makes investors to invest more and more money in them. The developers get investors with an ease and they also get profit in return.
It's all about making money and not about the tokens or currencies. Why wouldn't they make new tokens then ?
I guess its high time now that people stop generating tokens and start to create actual crypto currencies. All of the tokens they are generating are just a waste of time and being created just to make money.

The different currencies you are referring to are what I believe are ICOs. Think of ICO as an example idea posed to the public to solve a certain problem using the same technology behind crypto currency. For example, enjincoin is an ICO in which a large gaming corporation is implementing a coin into a community of gamers using the blockchain technology.

There are not so many currencies but have fiat currency and crypto currencies.
* We have Bitcoin.
* Still there are many Altcoins like Litecoin, ETH and Ripple  that have been trying to act as a currency, they succeed a little.
Not all ICOs use dollars, they accept the currencies in their countries.

Well, I don't know about you guys but I for sure have got only 3 currencies that I am currently using today. And those are my country's, the us dollars, and bitcoin. The other coins or tokens you have mentioned? I only see them as trading tools(other than dollar signs of course). But hey, some of these coins really have great platforms. And may be of use to any of us in the future. So i think it is still too early to call these all other coins/tokens as useless. Because some of yall might even be users of these coins like me who use it for trading.

We can't deny the fact that Bitcoin is really successful. That is one of the reasons why there are so many currencies. They wanted to achieve what Bitcoin did. Aside from that, some currencies have their unique characteristics from others while some are just trash. There are lots of shitcoins so beware where to invest.

Right now we have around 100 most popular crypto currencies, which you can find here - https://coinmarketcap.com/, including Bitcoin. Bitcoin is most popular crypto, with more than 200 000 daily users. So you can use Bitcoin and also other most popular altcoins, like ETH. Why so many ? Because many people like to create own altcoin, and just some of them are popular and in real use.  ;D

It is not as altruistic as you are proposing here. While what you say is true and 99% of coins will die eventually and become worthless, the reality is that they are so easy to make it simply does not make any sense for someone who owns a business to make a coin for said business, do an ICO and run a bounty campaign. Bounty campaigns are free as you pay using your token/coin so there is very little risk and a great potential reward.

Every other altcoin wants to be the next Bitcoin. That's not always bad though. Some coins aim to improve the cryptocurrency game by creating coins that are technologically superior. Others, though, aim to just create a quick buck with pump and dump tactics.

Maybe we take note about the cryptos but how many of us look at the so many start up companies swinging up every single day? Let more come to the market and with time the wheat will be separated from the tares.

If a limit were put on social media after WhatsApp was created I am sure we wouldn't be having the telegram (which is better than WhatsApp). Just a thought.

First, most likely you mean tokens, not a currency. As for tokens, they are usually used for working inside the project (online stores, casinos, etc.), also possible that the token is something like shares - so that you as an investor were rewarded. Why so many? Because different projects offer their own conditions, have their own interest for different people.
Another question is the uniqueness of the proposal. and vitality. I see a lot of problems with this today...

Why are there so many cryptocoins? Greed. People don't want to invest money and have a nice 10% return next year or double their investment in a couple of years. They want to get rich fast.
99% of the more than a 1000 (some sources even mention 2000) cryptocurrencies are probably scams, getting rich schemes by the makers. If enough suckers buy into them, the founders will get rich. It also means that the money people want to or can afford to invest in a cryptocoin now is spread over more than 1000 coins instead of just a few like Bitcoin and some special purpose altcoins like Monero, Zcash, Ethereum, ... If there were only a dozen cryptocoins, the price of those coins would steadily increase and would offer a nice return on investment. With new coins created almost every day, we are in a bubble, a mania and it will inevitably collapse.

Many try to copy BTC achievements and create new coins only to make some profit of that, but BTC is out there for almost 10 years and it is the most famous crypto coin and yet is still very unknown to the wider public.Let's imagine then what the future is for some other coin which appears on markets and tries to do something. In most cases they are sentenced to failure and the only benefit is for the owner and few lucky traders.

People see a chance to make money and is not so difficult to do made new coin,so we have so many of them. How many will survive for long time it's hard to say,but in my opinion that number should be between 10-20 coins.

I believe it is just like some token or ICO projevt that pop.up with so many coins and suddenly dump. But if that thing will.happen of making so.much coin then we do not have other choice but to follow them with their purchasing way of their product, but surely it will.be more expensive in buyers part.
But I really believe we only have 1coin and it is bitcoin alone.

There is always a room for improvement in every currency, even in Bitcoin.
Of course, every new currency tries to make some money but also tries to make something better, sharing its own vision of the crypto world.
I'm sure we will continue to see in the future a lot of new currencies, saying that, no one can predict that the bitcoin will be always the Number 1 on the crypto market, even it has been now for 10 years at this position.

Business indeed.  There were many digital currencies that emerged about bitcoin showed its potential.  Many sees it as a good way to earn money and that many people are starting to get use to crypto currencies.  Since many people are trying to invest their money and explore many potential coins that can give them money, thus, there are many emerging cryptos in the market.  Promising to be better than the other.

What you have to understand first is what digital currencies mean. actually simply a digital currency is the same as the currency of the world. for some investments there are those that require certain digital currencies, such as bitcoin or etherum. it is a natural thing because it is in accordance with the interests and one of them is the project owners see there are opportunities in one of the coin. so this is the same as USD dollar or yen and yuan. you are only told to choose and that is your way to invest. the result is you get a profit and you can see how important is the variation in digital currency. digital currencies are not just bitcoins, but there are hundreds of coins that have the same opportunities to grow better.

Not all coins are currencies, some are tokens.Currencies are those which can be mineable and can be used for payments.Bitcoin is an example of currency and coming ELECTRONEUM is a currency. There are few other currencies out there but they are just competitors to bitcoin claiming that they have few advantages over it. Massive adoption of currencies determine which currency will lasts forever. Not all.

Many people see the success of bitcoin and try to emulate it by making new currencies some have succeeded in making them worth nothing to been worth a couple of hundred. If people buy into it it creates a need for them and prices follow. Of course people will try their own ideas on block chain if it works out for them.

Because people wants something different. Altcoins created with different features and different usage. Bitcoin is still not fully develop. People wants improvement. That's why people are creating a cryptocurrency which suits their needs. For example:

Monero as well as Dash are created to add extra feature for full anonymity
Dogecoin is a joke coin or meme coin
Litecoin more faster transaction than Bitcoin because of LN

See, altcoins are created with features that Bitcoin don't have.
That is why Bitcoin is more likely to split again because Bitcoin doesn't satisfy others people. Also to generate money. Cryptocurrencies are no different with stocks. We only buy them because we want to generate some good profits from them.

The more crypto currency, the more competition. On the one hand it's good, because the strongest survive. On the other hand, it is not very convenient for ordinary investors. This hampers the search for the choice of which crypto currency is better and which one should pay attention to.

Technology is 1/3 of what you need to replicate. The other 2/3s are developers, community and gradual distribution of coins over long enough time to draw all this community together.
Bitcoin technology was replicated many times in copycat clones, it didn't help them because there were not enough people and talent behind them. For one or other reasons people and talent have gathered behind Monero. Go ahead, take source code of Monero and try to replicate if you can. You will fail like Bitcoin copycat clones failed. Technology by itself is nothing.

The reason why so many currencies arises its because they have different requirement of different country needed as the token me exchange to each value they want. Due to the fact that bitcoin is really successful. That the investor have a lot of choices were to invest.

If you witnessed from the start its too crowded and confusing already. There are also  tokens from smart contract and Ethereum contract. Aside from that waves are issuing ICO's also for waves based token. There is a cryptocurrency boom this year and excited but also becomes saturated.

The more crypto currency, the more competition. On the one hand it's good, because the strongest survive. On the other hand, it is not very convenient for ordinary investors. This hampers the search for the choice of which crypto currency is better and which one should pay attention to.
There will become more currency in the world because we know that future is in the hands of crypto world. But about competition there is no one currency which having ability to face bitcoin because bitcoin having great market there are a lot of investor of bitcoin that they are willing to invest into bitcoin.

Hi All,
Please help me understand in plain English how will we benefit from so many currencies?
I see so many startups with decentralized blockchain ideas with their own crypto currency.

I think its because that some tokens are being created because some are being formed to be greater than the former. FOr example thernum has been getting some shift and speed as it is being compared to bitcoinbeing it can program itself to do things that bitcoin cant.

when we are talking about open source money, that means anybody in the world who knows basics of programming can create another open source money from another already existing project. the cost is a couple of clicks and changing a couple of lines of code.
and it leaves us with this many so called currencies which in reality are copycats and these days things are even worse. they create an delusional  problem and then try to solve it! and call it I.C.O.

I don't understand why you don't like the many cryptocurrencies there are today cause its really great for trading and making huge profit. Of course, there are many SCAM and SHIT coins which were developed just to make the dev rich but there are also many coins which have good project and aim that they are worth investing to. The reason so many exist is because there are many people with different ideas on how a coin should be so they will develop one.

Sorry for bad english too.

I think new cryptocurrencies nowadays from various project doesn't serve as main stream cryptocurrency that linked to fiats directly, but rather as shares/securities or simply coin that are used within a particular ecosystem.

For example a group of hotels that share this same 'hotel' coin is beneficial as it would circulate among their ecosystem and it is helpful for implementing unique features or decentralized options. In your case there could be 'green' coin that links the agriculture industry and perhaps you could get your oat-related goods in a much more transparent, efficient and cheap way.

As securities like many ETH project, new project owners lease their token, represents like shares to their company by exchanging ETH with theirs, their project is funded and basically is how shares works, they earn you earn through dividends or the increasing price of that particular share. I think the reason these project use crypto instead of cash is basically more easy to fund (ICOs are prefect), highly manageable and very transparent to their investors as block-chain technologies are involved.

I'm afraid the market is already saturated and thousands of coins you see are actually competing each other, hundreds would raise or fail eventually and there wouldn't be more 100 of 'useful' cryptocurrencies.

in my opinion and based on what i have understand, we have so many currencies because we also have different nations. it is a need in the economy to have a competition and where will each country will grow. having different currencies means that we also have various value of money and each value usually depend on the economy of each country. this variation in currency isone of the factors on how countries would earn money since there are countries with higher values.

What you referr to as "currencies" are in most cases "tokens" which are created massively these days in the aim to make money for their creators exclusively , but this doesn't mean that they are all scamers , there are some legit projects . And you need to choose the right basket to put you eggs in .

If you check majority of those tokens that you call currencies were created for the purpose of crowdfunding in order to raise fund  for their project that is why most of those coin are normally dump after ICO .

Yes you are right.   Just a programmer is needed to make new crypto currencies.  But the judge of this is still the people to whom this currency is offered.  But the clear thing is that bitcoin is the surest, tested and proven cryto currency in the market.  It has never turned down people and should not be underestimated.  That is why there are many emerging currency because of the success of bitcoin.

I don't think we have many currencies, all we have is just a lot of altcoins or alternative cryptocurrencies, if you check the market cap of some coins you would notice that their market caps are still being calculated in BTC, and another thing is that all the other cryptos follow the trend of the BTC because if Bitcoin goes down then other coins would drop in value too. So I'd just say bitcoin is the only one leading the way

If we use a single currency, this even thought make so many dreams unfold.  If there will a single currency there will be no banks for imposing restrictions on transaction taking place all over world.  There will be whole different world.  This advancement will turn the whole economy balance, there will be no forgery,  theft,  no fear.  Even crime rate will declined.  Nobody is dependent on banks for extracting their money.  There is a whole different world.  There will be peace and there will no fights among countries on money based issues.  Crypto currency will take over the money.  People will enjoy the benefits of crypto currency like bitcoins. A whole better world.  This is my point of view.

There is one currency and that is bitcoin. All other alt-coins have been created as to compete with the bitcoin and to gave it a smaller value. 99% of the altcoins have no value, the remaining 1% of the altcoins have little value. There is no competitor for bitcoin until now. All other alt-coins have been created to make the bitcoin worth less.

fiat, Bitcoin, ALtcoin, and a lot of ICO. If that's what you mean  so many currencies, yes it is. But I thought not every store and business would create their own crypto currency. It would be need more cost for them, to create it, and to promote it. Its not that simple to create your own cryptocc. You will need  team to manage and develop it. THey would prefer use the crypto that already exist. Except, they have a project with cryptocurrency based, and need to collect money by creating an ICO.

That question you mean "Why are so many Altcoins?" If that so then following reasons in my own views;
-Bitcoin Core is open-source and developed with numbers of developers today to keep the stability of the system and to show transparency between Developers and users/investors.
  - This means, everyone can create their own cryptocurrency in their own kind of structure.
- It is free for all, IT Companies do develop their own blend of Blockchain that's why there's lot of Altcoins exist today and focuses on different fields.
- Competition between each Altcoins. The better the developers and support and marketing the better cryptocurrency they have to attract or invite investors to join their cryptocurrency community.
- Some Altcoins are just setting-up just to play with other  Altcoins, some are already have red tags and some were unable to get support and investors.

There are a lot of reasons behind why thousands of Altcoins are exist today because everyone aside from investors want to get rich quick. And most of us are thinking the same way but we tend having lack of experience and knowledge how to start or build our own cryptocurrency community.

There are so many companies that feels envy of Bitcoin's success so  that's why  they are creating their own Cryptocurrency Community because they're hoping to be the next Bitcoin in the future. Through History Bitcoin gained less support after a couple of years but educating people will make them set interests on supporting Bitcoin as we know today.

there so many coins here because they want to have profit that's why they create it like bitcoin now see the transaction fee now i think its little but if many user's do that kind of transaction fee i think its so big.The bitcoin also use for buying or selling some then you can trade it in new coins so they create new coins for there own profit
Not all of them are for the profit, some are for advancement, technology and innovation. And they are thinking that entering cryptocurrency is a good idea of distributing the shares of their company by launching such ICO's. It's a matter of being popular as people are aware now with crypto's so it's an eye opener that there are so many (crypto)currencies.

Let me add that the Propthereum ICO crowdsale will run off a decentralized Smart Contract that runs on the Ethereum Blockchain. It is secured with a 256-bit encryption which makes it secure and reliable. Propthereum Tokens will be minted as PTCs. These coins are a digital representation tracking
the funding of our ICO and crowdsale. The pre-ICO token sale will take place on November 10, 2017 at 12PM GMT. You may check this link for more information: www.propthereum.io

There are many reasons for a currency to exist, first we need a new currency because we need to use it for our specific purpose, like we want to use that currency for banks, we use banks currency, but not all currencies are successful despite how advanced they are because they can not be applied in the real life.

We really have a lot of tokens released. This has its advantages and disadvantages. Bitcoin was created with open source code, which allows everyone to create their own Crypto currency and this is a positive moment for finding and creating coins with more improved qualities. At the same time, this opens up the possibility of abuse of this right and the creation of absolutely unnecessary tokens and at the same time receiving their material benefits. As a result, the market puts everything in its place. The tokens are still in demand, and the unnecessary tokens are dying. This is the law of the market. So it should be treated calmly as inevitability.

No i think we dont have a lot of currencies in the end they are also the same and that word is they are all "Money"

It just happen that money is important to this world because someones having a good life because of this and someone having a bad life because of this.

Maybe theres a lot of currencies because theres a lot of countries in this world and thats what they make their difference

In Bitcoins also like that but in the end will give more priority on bitcoins unlike the other coins or altcoins
Maybe other altcoins or other cryptocurrencies has come because thats how their business work and do profit for them

altcoins is what the term for them   they are
ETHERIUM
DODGECOIN
LITECOIN
etc. they can mine also as alternative crypto currency where the difficulty is much easier than bitcoin. and the others are such tokens from ICO which will can be used as like the stated above but you need to trade it to get the base ETH and to the base BITCOIN if you know what I mean

There are many coin yet not all coins are monetary forms, some are tokens. Monetary forms are those which can be mineable and can also be utilized for installments. Bitcoin and Ethereum is a cases of monetary standards. There are couple of different monetary standards out there. Enormous appropriation of monetary forms figure out which money will keeps going forever.

Earlier most of the countries were under rule of United Kingdom.
At that time pound was the only widely accepted currency.
After getting independence from UK influence of pound become less and each country forcefully presented its own currency.
After digital and economic revolutions bitcoin get introduced to the world.
It happens in all businesses, when someone introduces a new concept and get successful people stars following him and his concepts.
Same is happening with bitcoin, bitcoin become popular since its introduction so more and more companies jumped in with same concept.
Now even countries are planning to introduce their own crypto. Though there more than 1200 currencies among the only 10 are popular.

Having so many currencies has certain benefits. Different countries have different habits. They are big old boys, some gentle, some badass. Accommodation of such habits needs many currencies and individual political system.

1. Sovereignty: A country with a control on their own currency can determine its exchange rate, monetary and fiscal policies. Japan's Yen is even weaker than India's Rupee, but that is because Japan is trying to be competitive in foreign markets. Japan decides its own policies. So do India and others. When countries got independent, they pushed to break free of earlier controls.

2. Practicality: If there is a huge inflation in Pakistan, their Central Bank will try to increase the interest rates, so that people do not get more money (WHY? Because inflation already means that money is already more as compared to availability of goods and services) If the world had a single currency, individual countries will be losing out on their capability to influence and address the situations in their country. This may turn out to be disastrous.

3. One Currency. Whose? If you had to select a currency, which would you select? You might say USD. But Euro hasn't performed that bad either, except in the recent decade. Such trends are susceptible to change and this choice of a single currency is again linked to sovereignty. A country with its currency with the world currency will indeed have an undue control and lead to dissatisfaction.

And we are not using all the currencies for world trade. US, Euro and Yen lead the pack. It's just that all other currencies are essential for internal matters of an economy.

There might be a time in the future where bitcoin users will be begging for the anonymity some of these coins offer What you say can be very simple but big business guys do not think so. To create a single currency requires a great deal of money to set up. Not all customers know and want to use virtual currency as a form of payment, although it is more convenient than conventional but the use and purchase is too complicated.

Are you trying to ask about cryptos currency not the currency of different country. Cryptocurrencies is just what people name that we use online. Actually the other what you called "currency" is not a currency at all (even bitcoin will not be called currency). People created this token maybe for their business personal use, like in online casino, some of them created tokens to be used in betting which actually benefited most are the developers and the online casino itself. I think the new tokens thats in the market today somehow make people confuse, which such product should use a specific token before having that product or services.

There are many reasons for a currency to exist, first we need a new currency because we need to use it for our specific purpose, like we want to use that currency for banks, we use banks currency, but not all currencies are successful despite how advanced they are because they can not be applied in the real life.
Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency that I would purchase and hold so I can cash the coins out later.

Because of the open source flatform.
Also, each crypto serves as its own purpose. Some of them are currency based, some are utilizing based and some are equity based. There's a lot of different features that can separate them from each other.

There are 2 reasons to your question:

• First there are many developers who actually develop something which helps the community and they feel that current coins or options aren't sufficient therefore they make a better coin few eg , nem , xmr , ltc etc.

• Second type of people are those who most likely missed the btc train but want to quickly make money. So instead they develop a same coin which already exists or fork btc and make quick money easily.

Hi All,
Please help me understand in plain English how will we benefit from so many currencies?
I see so many startups with decentralized blockchain ideas with their own crypto currency.
Right now some of these ICO's are still dependent on the technology of the big companies like ETH. But there will be a time that we will be leaning towards an fiat to coins trading already.

if one of the principle is not cooperating it will not be able to process all of those.
we have mr GOOGLE and everything about bitcoin is basically there. just a little tick tick click with the internet then you will be literate to how bitcoin is using by miners. if no one will mine the transaction will not move

I think there is so many currencies because people have different perspectives all over the world. People sees a thing different from the other and the difference of currencies help the control be easy because if there is only one currency, there are so many people to pursue and argue with but with different currencies, people would have the freedom to follow their perspectives.

If you are referring to all the currencies in the market including regular national currencies like dollars, peso, euro, and etc. They are there for national identity, use for stocks exchange worldwide. They are controlled and centralized, unlike digital currency like bitcoin and alike, they are developed to compete in the digital market. A different arena, but serves for the same purpose as physical money. Bitcoin success leads to development of other altcoins.

I agree with the OP that the big amount of currencies that are availible is overwhelming and its currently a hassle to use the ones you need because you have to go through an exchange to convert your crypto to the needed currency. This is costly (in terms of transaction and trading fees) and time consuming as well. I hope that in the near future we will have working ways to use atomic swaps. If this way of exchanging currencies will be up and running there wont be an issue with having a vast amount of curencies as exchanging will be easy and cheap. I think then the diversity will be great, but for now, its just a hassle.

The reason for altcoins to be created by those ico's is to compete with bitcoins and also to have their own profit. Most of us are only investing on ico's because we are hoping for their coins to increase its value as the time goes by and that's the benefit we can only get.

As someone mentioned, these "altcoins" are not all currencies. Some of them are "tokens", and these have utilities. This means that they give you access to a service. An analogy (which is not entirely correct, but I think it is a fair comparison for the sake of understanding) would be to view these utility tokens as any gift card or membership card you may have.
Membership cards gives you access to some kind of service as well, the same will the utility tokens be doing, once the service is functioning. The difference then, is that there is a marked for these 'membership cards'/utility tokens, where you can sell your right to use a service, to someone else who wants to use it.

When internet was introduced to the masses we also had a gazillion startups and a .com bubble. Most of those companies are just a memory, internet however, isn't. And other giants emerged like those mentioned above.

creating a new cryptocurrency is easy. most of them are only barely different from one another.but It takes  little in terms of corporate resources to toss a few programmers and some hardware at a new currency. In return, you control a huge amount of that currency. even if the probability of it become as popular as bitcoin is pretty low, the reward is potentially so high that the expected value is actually pretty good.that is the reason why so many companies create new currencies.

Yes, you are right. Using one to two major currencies is the best idea e.g. bitcoin and ethereum as a form of payments. I think the majority of online merchants are currently using bitcoin and ethereum at the moment because put other currencies that is not bitcoin or ethereum will mean losing a customer to them that is why they use these two coins for now.

It's really a simple question, but the answer is very complex. In reality there are perhaps 100-200 different coins, the rest are clones of the real coins. Each dev team makes their own changes to the code to improve the coins features.

It's actually pretty logic. The hard part is finding out what is a shitcoin, and what is a real coin.
Genereally speaking, if the dev team wants you to invest money into their coin, it's usually a scam. So dont. A real coin with potential, is distributed fairly to all.

Currencies are like houses. You chose what suits your need-1 BHK, 2 BHK or a mansion, whatever your pocket says. Also when you are low on money, you may have to move to a more decent home than earlier.

Same is the case with currency. Having so many currencies has certain benefits. Different countries have different habits. They are big old boys, some gentle, some badass. Accommodation of such habits needs many currencies and individual political system. ;)

we don't have so many currencies.

There might be a time in the future where bitcoin users will be begging for the anonymity some of these coins offer.

if you ponder on that further, you'll realize that all these "currencies" (the ones that have ongoing development at least or the ones  whose blockchains are never abandoned) somehow complements and supplements bitcoin. with bitcoin's limited supply, you can still have your supply of bitcoin or another cryptocurrency parked as one or other crypto like ltc, xmr, zec, eth, or any other crypto you hodl. you can just trade one for the other to have that other asset you want to shift to. the crypto space is amazing. just stick to those assets whose blockchains are not abandoned and have ongoing development. stay away from the scam ones  ;)

I think the alternative currencies aren't primarily made to profit us but to allow investors to support Cryptocurrency. By having having their own currencies and run campaigns they get to have people consider where a specific token could only be used. What we can take advantage of here, is the flow of value from one currency to the other by understanding which of the investors are widely accepted.

There are many coins yet not all coins are monetary forms, some are tokens. Monetary forms are those which can be mineable and can also be utilized for installments. Bitcoin and Ethereum is a case of monetary standards. There are a couple of different monetary standards out there. Enormous appropriation of monetary forms figures out which money will keep going forever.

One of the reasons why so many alt coins is that Bitcoin is open source and it is very easy to clone and create a new coin.

Since nobody regulates how many coins can float around, then it's just normal for people to take advantage of such opportunity by creating their own coins.

Crypto currency is now really a lot, their number has long exceeded more than a thousand. Their number is constantly changing, as some of them disappear due to lack of demand and are unsuitable, others appear. In general, there is a normal process of creating different types of crypto currency and this process is useful and necessary. I think that in the future digital coins of coins will become even more and they will serve our life in various spheres of our activity. They all differ in functional qualities and technology and universal coins such as bitcons and ethereum of these all functions can not technically perform.

There are many companies out there planning to launch their own coins. The blockchain is something that can really transform their current process and optimize the infrastructure that will lead to higher revenue for them. In my opinion, I think that they want to take benefit of decentralization but still, they don't want others to interfere with their process and that's why launching their own coins might help them to achieve this. I think down the road there will be many currencies dedicated to each sector such as food industry, medical industry etc.

Moreover many people have the blockchain technology that is how they can lunch a cryptocurrecy.

The reason behind why there are lots of electronic coins in the market is because of the trend and demand happening in our generation.
There is a huge and massive support in these coins resulting for some investors to start their own ICO business so from this there are lots of currencies offer in the world market.

It is because not all coins or tokens have the feature of the other coins like bitcoins. It can be transfered at a fast rate and has a huge transaction fee unlike any other coin that literally is so fast and has no transfer cost. Every coin is trying to outdo the other by features, availability, etc.

The coins are so much because we can not influence the process of their appearance in any way, but they appear because it is a good way to attract capital and further dispose of it at our discretion. Therefore, the number of coins will continue to increase, whether we like it or not. Until investors invest their money in the initial release of coins, tokens will be more and more. True, the market will also leave unnecessary coins without any demand and they will disappear with time. Therefore, in general, this process is self-regulating and will lead to the fact that only useful and necessary coins will remain on the market.

Hi All,
Please help me understand in plain English how will we benefit from so many currencies?
I see so many startups with decentralized blockchain ideas with their own crypto currency.
We have different  and many currencies because we belong to different countries and have a different value of money and textures

I am also not a fan of so much currencies. In fact, there should be no currency launched till it has something unique to offer in addition to current bitcoin features. The reason this is happening is because developers want to milk out the current craze about crypto. They also think that they coins will be able to gain as much popularity as bitcoins thus giving them more profit and recognition.

we don't have so many currencies.
ETH has an exchange rate and many coin too, so many people use a coin like ETH as the currency when its main function is not it, yeah you right actually there are not many currencies just fiat and bitcoin, then appear a lot of coins with different purposes and projects but I think the party is more inclined only on bitcoin as currency

There is no standing rule of what crypto currency to follow. Like the dollar, every currency on earth will accept the bill anywhere in the world. One time I went to a country like their money doesn't count at all but when I offered a dollar it was very worthy in every shop and exchanges. Now what I see here is most probably being linked to bitcoin since it is the first of the digital coin created then thousands alternative coins followed to be created for each and every purpose. Like rules or requirements were set out to be able to make a new form of cryptocurrency coin, a group or an institution would like to create one basing on their respective specs and motive. They can make and open it to the public to share then do some trading for a project that is for a long term. Many currencies formed because of its purpose, features, stocks, records, how the platform works to benefit, the roadmap, whitepaper, airdrops for everyone and a lot more to change people's lives.

a digital currency in which encryption techniques are used to regulate the generation of units of currency and verify the transfer of funds, operating independently of a central bank. cause we all know that many of company wants to surpass bitcoin.Once I learned about Bitcoin I was now being exposed to this "other" coin called Litecoin as well as maybe Darkcoin? (don't remember, correct me in the comments!), but this put the thought into my head that if you could just make another coin then none of these coins are really valuable. This is a very "newbie" type of thought, but when you look at how many people are unfamiliar with cryptocurrency on top of how many are just plain not good with computers I think this creates a barrier to investing in cryptocurrency.

This problem would be solved by IC manufacturing industry. Samsung make its announcement in its involvement in cryptocurrency.

Well, again it its not that advantageous to rely on one platform only,

At first one bitcoin came there was no other cryptocurrency in the market so it was hard for people to get a grip on this but when the second cryptocurrency came in the market which is I guess bitcoin, has started the market competition anyway as you have said that why they do not take ETH that's because getting multiple cryptocurrencies is a much more profitable than a single one at least that will keep them in working inside the network.

I think many people have a huge misconception of what a 'currency' really is, legally speaking. Currency, by definition, is a legal tender issued by a central bank that is supported by a government. If you base your definition of currency as to anything that you can use to pay something, you are in the wrong because that may just be a 'barter', 'dation in payment' or any substitute that has monetary value. You have to very well familiarize yourself with these things as it will affect your understanding in terms of how you handle your money affairs.

Another point is, when you consider any substitute payment of fiat as currency, that would give ALL people the power to create their own 'currency'. This notion is, for all intents and purposes, contrary to common sense of men of intelligence. Just imagine a situation wherein people can invent their own currencies just because it is accepted as a form of payment. It is just outright absurd and disturbing.

Hence, while I am a believer of Bitcoin, I can say it is not a currency because it has not passed through legal processes. This goes out for all forthcoming cryptocurrencies, as well.

It is really good to have more options, but the truth is most of the coins are just plain shit, just a copy past of the open software policy,if you still have any doubt, take the simple case of dogecoin alone, the creator just replace bitcoin with a new name and more number of coins and launched the software and do you know how the entire coin is worth  ;D , so what i am trying to say is,there are more shit coins in the market than having options, just understand those simple things.

The most interesting is that even in this situation, projects collect the requested amount, people are now ready to invest in everything, meaning, the idea of the project goes to the background. Although now there is a tendency that in order to participate in a good ICO it is necessary to perform an immeasurable number of conditions for the purchase of coins. Good projects sell their tokens in private seals or pre-seyles then it does not even get to the very token of the business.

There are so many of them because of ICOs. Each ICO implies minting its very own token. Subsequently these tokens are listed on exchanges.

It will not help others that we have tens of thousands of altcoins who can do this, but not by any single soul. If all these people gather behind Bitcoin and give news of time for Bitcoin.

Hi All,
Please help me understand in plain English how will we benefit from so many currencies?
I see so many startups with decentralized blockchain ideas with their own crypto currency.

If you are pertaining to the variety of coins in the market. Then yes, there are a lot of coins in the market, and it is increasing every day. And as much as it is confusing where to lodge your investment that would do any good, I think that it's fine that there are so many market players because it fosters better competition, and it gives other stronger coins a run for their money. A market that is one-sided and is inclined to only one coin is not an active market and would only stay for so long until its fall. Having lots of currencies helps in keeping the market afloat even if many of the strong assets are in decline.

One of the benefit of having different crypto is to use a specific crypto for a specific task. Yes, bitcoin is the universal and most popular crypto, but other new crypto have their own advantages and could be suitable in a certain way. For example Ethereum is popular to use if there are smart contracts, Dash boast that they have the faster transaction speed among others while Ripple is eyed to be used by banks or money transfer company. But just like fiat currency, the globally accepted currency is dollar in the crypto world it is bitcoins, thus there are companies who prefer to accept different crypto or a crypto that is more suitable for their product or services.

Hi,

Actually, even in real life, you can create your own currency. You must define where you can use it and who can use it, and last, you have to fix a trading rate with a traditionnal currency.

With crypto, it is the same idea! So many currencies are created for specific uses. And indeed, with so many possibilities, it can be hard to understand which one has potential and which one is only used on restrained areas..

Personnally, I stick to the main ones! ;)

Yes we do have a lot of currencies out there in the crypto world, and I think we will not get benefit from all of them, I can say from a few yes. but not all of them. Since Bitcoin has been very successful although there still some limitations people took advantage of that and create their own currencies, more often than not scams and fraud just to get and take advantage of some people who don't know much about this world.

Basically, the goal is to continue to supplement the deficiencies of previous coins and to become coins that can replace bitcoin later on. Then the owner will be a very lucky person. But it is now abused, many of developers make a coin for merely a hobby or for scamming people.

Most of the cryptocurrencies are not made for transactions to buy milk in grocery stores. Companies are using tokens for users to buy their own services.

As for your example, mills will not create their own currencies but rather use existing ones.

It's because people don't agree with something in the Bitcoin technology and since Bitcoin is decentralized and nobody can really change it they just make forks(Other cryptocurrencies) to fulfill their need.

But like i saw in the post about the unofficial list of rules: Bitcoin is Cryptocurrency and the others are child's play. I completely agree with that statement.

Maybe that is the purpose in each country they have specifications of currencies what to use and it is depend of the token what will be and it has different usage too.

For me, they just want to create their own cryptocurrency that we know that they can control its price and more. But we all know that the possibility of it to become successful it depends on your investors and users. That is just an economic war; small business wants to become famous and prominent. Imagine you own the store? and some other stores notice that your store become most successful because of some cryptocurrency advantage card, so some store will copy and create they own to make sure that marketing demand for your products will be lessened.  :)

The problem right now is, that cryptocurrencies are very hyped right now. And many people want to make fast money. So they are a lot of people who have the know how in coding, and with the open source blockchain tools they can create fast an own coin. Creating Tokens on ethereum base its even more easy. So they start in the hope hey will become the next bitcoin. Some of them are good in marketings and the coins will some value like 5$, but they are neer worth. So watch out and decide for coins with good projects and devs behind.

Not all tokens or coins have the same features comapred to the famous ones like bitcoins, litecoins, BCH etc. Some alt coins have little to no transaction fees and some are lightning-fast to transfer. Not all alt coins have the same capabilities as other alt coins that's why some alt coins have huge potential than others.

we won't benefit from all these currencies, we'll benefit from the few (less than 10) that are currently established and offer unique benefits from each other.

Smaller groups of people may, may benefit from a specific currency based on their affiliation to the firm or entity that produced the currency, add all those small groups up and you have a lot of people benefiting from a lot of currencies but the relationship isn't one to many, it's one to one. E.g., think of hotel loyalty rewards points being converted to a crypto-currency token - now you earn the tokens at the same rate, but you can also buy more tokens or sell your tokens on the open market...you're not stuck having to use them if you don't need to

ICOs (initial coin offerings) are being used by companies (startups mostly) as a way to raise capital and serves as an alternative to having ads in an app or charging for "in app purchases", instead you have these tokens that are you can redeem for goods or services offered by the company but you're not tied to them, they can be traded for other tokens to get other benefits and other companies.

we don't have so many currencies.

That is pretty much correct. Different country has different fiats or local money because it is their nations pride. Why there are different altcoin? its easy because different altcoins differ in algorithm and its uses and functions in the blockchain while fiat currency are mainly use for transactions and payments.

You are right, every coin has its own company that's running the ico and it is a business. This ico's are competing in the market in order for their coins to grow its value and people will be interested on investing so they must control the supply and it was a good thing for bitcoins because it makes its value grow even more.

There are so many different currencies because blockchain technology can offer a wide range. There are several ways to do this, such as a currency like bitcoin,
platforms like ethereum, coins which are very specialized in anonymity and so on. Each team tries to approach the masses in a different way.
In addition, there are now many tokens from already existing companies based on ethereum neo or other platforms. These are mostly utility token.

I do not think that all you see is a digital currency,
if observed, we can divide into 2 Coin classes traded on the cryptocurrency market
namely "Original digital Coin" and nodes coin (such as Masternote / Supernode / Delegates / CryptoNote)

In addition, the Token (Under ETH smart Contract) can be divided into 2 classes,
Utility Token and Secuarity Token,
I'm not sure with secuarity token offering,
but for utility token is a business model with service offerings and products powered by blockchain Technology
like Games, Education, investment, banking and etc,
but this is quite different from some Token types like
TokenGo (https://tokengoplatform.com/),
because it is not a Token but is a delegates coin
that offers dividends through Delegated Proof of Power (DPop)

but I am not surprised with the presence of various types of currency in markets
because if we observe the world there are also various types of Fiat Money with different values.
Furthermore,
I am more concerned to give category to "any token"
not based on the "mining concept"
is are like same with the stock or future index not currency types.

and i not sure for DAO

Because the market is poorly named and a great many of these are not "currencies" in the sense that Bitcoin is a "currency" to be spent.

They are innovative methods of using the blockchain to track and store data on a distributed ledger, or using tech similar, but different from blockchain to facilitate data transfer between people or systems. IOTA, for example, uses a system they call "Tangle" to facilitate data transfer and communication between devices within the "Internet of Things", which are technically connected, but like a bunch of people from different nations, have difficulty fluently communicating with one another (here is useful article (https://bitmann.org/how-to-buy-iota/))

Also, there are some Crypto projects out there aiming to be "bridges" between currencies, so you can have a single receiving address, and if you send me an invoice for 35 XRB, on my end, I will immediately be told what the amount is in the currency I favor and utilize, and can send you, for example, .01 BTC, which will simply send BTC from my account, but convert to XRB before it hits your account.

These are all things that are possible, and being explored.

Today there are about 1500 altcoins and most of them are just shitcoins that will disappear in a short while. There are lots of start ups that use ICO's for crowd funding while the service they offer has nothing to do with Blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Tokens from these companies will not exist so long.

A lot of them are just created because the developers are trying to make a lot of money in a short time, they create these coins and keep a large number for themselves so when the coins start doing well they can sell and make a lot of money while their investors are left holding worthless coins in their hands. They won't last long though and most of them will die out in a couple of years.

we don't have so many currencies.
* we have fiat and then we have bitcoin.
* then there are some altcoins like Litecoin and Monero that have been trying to act as a currency, they succeed a little.
* then we have lots of "tokens". just numbers on the screen created for trading alone.
* then we have lots of different "tokens" like ETH that are not even supposed to be a currency but people mistake them for a currency.

no one can answer better

Of course after some time, most of cryptocurrencies will disapear, but ones that left will be really "strong" and expensive :)

Hi All,
Please help me understand in plain English how will we benefit from so many currencies?
I see so many startups with decentralized blockchain ideas with their own crypto currency.

Market is helpful to reach the all country people. So more coin release in the market place. It helpful to for the people growth and future saving. All country people learn more information. why do you expect something to be left at all, maybe there will be an eternal period with volatile unreliable currencies. like it was in the past, throughout whole human history

just think about the big currencies that dissappeared: deutsche reichsmark, all those royal currencies, of various dynasties. etc. these people of course took controll over the banks later, but nevermind.

There are tokens not currencies, The only considered crypto currency in digital world is bitcoin and fiat. If you notice ETH, WAVES, Monero, Dogecoin and ect. are all transferable to bitcoin and USD meaning this all coin is considered as token because they are used by ICO's as toke or coin. Some ICO and blockchain create there own token or coin but not currency.

There is just one easy answer of the question why they ecist so many different cryptocurrencies. The most people who are creating one, want tjust the make fast money. Thats the only reason. The top ten altcoins are good for paying, and it dont need so many different cryptocurrencies. So watch out which cryptocoins you will support. Many of them will dissappear in the future, and the coins will be worthless. So maje good researches and think good before oyu invest in any altcoin.

Precisely, this is human nature and whenever something pops up the scene people try to replicate or create something out of it in a bid to advance it or challenge the existing one. Some do it for the money, others for educational purposes and advancements and so it's not surprising there are many other altcoins and many currencies around the world which more or less are serving the same purpose.

In actual this world is full of all types of the people and as we know that everyone in this world is free from every type of the work to do and make any type of the experiment to show his talent .
So with these conditions many people enters in this field and make Thier own coin to make profit from ICOs Investment and also few people are making coin to compete high level coin and want to give more perfection in the technology of the cryptocurrency .
So they we are seeing lots of cryptourrency in this field Field of online world .

There are several reasons for a large number of currencies:
- The new systems are decentralized, which ensures that there is no oversight by the
governing bodies. The issue of new money is a programmable process, which does not
depend on the level of supply and demand, but on the complex calculations in the
computer network, as well as solving a number of problems miners.
- No or minimal level of commission.
- Anonymity. Payments that are made online are completely anonymous.

It's disturbing me as well. I don't see any point what so ever for this huge number of crypto currencies. Literally there's no use for them. They are simply useless as a currency. Even Bitcoin is fighting to become a currency because everyone sees it as a way of investment. Except few altcoins, all the others couldn't even begin to become a way of investment. They are just some kind of token nothing more.

Agree to some extent as price does not indicate success - this can be seen with the amount of shitcoins with huge market cap. Bitcoin itself is becoming increasingly difficult to build on for adoption so alternatives do need to exist particularly in payments so I expect scams to die and real projects to show through inevitably.

Because each country has a different percentage of inflation where a country with a moderate and stable inflation rate will automatically increase and strengthen the purchasing power of its people, interest rate differentials, inflation and exchange rates have a close relationship, the ratio of export prices and import where if the price / ratio of exports increases greater than the imports then there will be strengthening the value of the country's currency.

I find that many websites repeat themselves, resulting in always reading similar information about cryptocurrencies. What i fail to understand is why so many cryptocurrency exist? None of them will never be used for real life applications so i fail to understand why people would buy these. I'm clearly missing some info here currencies. Some tried to improve upon bitcoin LTC,ETH,etc.
Some currencies try to improve upon other currencies. There are revolutionary currencies like Monero that offer one of the only true privacy, ethereum which offers smart contracts, siacoin or storj which tries to do decentralized data storage. Each one has it's own pro's and con's. TBH most tokens I've seen are just a cash grab which screw people once it hits an exchange. The coins that have their own codebase which usually show a little more effort was given, but many can be copy and paste sort of like garlicoin which forked from the original litecoin code, but is trying to compete as a meme coin to dogecoin.

Things of that nature, some want to improve the code that was originally developed, and many want to do ICO cash grabs and create shitcoins in mix.

Nice to know crypto is going back up, but also we must realise more currencies means lower value each cryptocurrency.

Hi All,
Please help me understand in plain English how will we benefit from so many currencies?
I see so many startups with decentralized blockchain ideas with their own crypto currency.

Competition is good my friend. It helps to ensure that only the best of the best will survive at the end of the day. Unlike fiat currency, the acceptance of no crypto should be forced onto anyone. We should be free to choose the ones that we personally like and/or prefer on an individual basis.

I believe that the idea of a one world currency is a little bit scary. We are in an age where corporations and individuals can produce their own currencies. I think this is fine. We need so many currencies to ensure decentralization in the way funds are being created and distributed. No one should have a monopoly on anything even if its currency
But I believe most coins are shit. Only those coins with true value and real-world use cases will survive when all the excitement is over.

Each cryptocurrency is focused on a specific audience. For example, the tokens on the basis of Ethereum have become the standard for carrying out ICO. Monero is suitable for those who care about serious privacy. There are many such examples.

There are lot of things you can do with them, you can join their ICO and if successful you will get a big profit and you can also join their airdrops and bounties to earn some of their tokens in by promoting their projects.

Only a very few, such as Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Monero, Zcash and Bytebal are having a purpose. The remaining 90% of the coins are plain scams or ponzi schemes. The developers just want to get rich and they churn out copycats of the already established coins.
That's exactly how I see it. many have bad ideas and want to run away after the ico. and after 4 weeks, it does not interest people anymore. It is too easy to make a coin today. Every child can do that. but 90% of all cryptos will disappear later and only the good survive

In my opinion actually there are many cryptocurrencies have for its competencies in terms of its values, supplies, demand for etc and its role in the crypto world. There are also upcoming ICOs and tokens used them for trading and exchange to bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies they want to convert.

Because anyone can make one.

Your correct the vast majority of them will never be used for anything. As for why people buy them. Either they are duped into thinking they will have value at some point or they are basically gambling with them since they are volatile. If you look very far down the list though, you will see that very few actually have much trading volume. Though it's deceptively high right now because we are in the middle of a large bitcoin surge and a lot of people are finding out of about crypto. Check back after it settles down and you will see very little actual trading on coins below the top 20.

Very simplified summary of the major alt-coins. As some of them do have uses other than as a currency.

Ethereum is for programing digital contacts and probably a lot of other interesting things.

Ethereum Class is an split off of Ethereum that didn't want back peddle transactions to fix a mistake.

Ripple is something weird I don't really understand.

Monero and Dash are offer added anonymity.

Litecoin is just bitcoin with a deferent mining algo (most coins are basically the same thing)

MadiSafeCoin is used to try and create a private internet somehow...

Steem is a monetized social media (think Reddit but where upvotes are coins)

Factom is similar to Ethereum

Dogecoin is an awesome joke.

Lots of people/teams with their "version" of what is a "good" cryptocurrency.

Currently there are only 3 that are worth investing in long-term.

Monero, BTC and Ethereum.

There may be a few more worth a punt on, but I doubt there is anything in it for them long-term.

Title: Re: why so many currencies?
Post by: INBOT on May 11, 2018, 10:31:08 AM
There is a difference between coins and tokens. Many of the tokens are utility tokens that are meant to be used in a certain project.

Inbot (www.inbot.io) for example created InToken so that we are able to reward our community. We started off with fiat but soon realized that it is nearly impossible to manage 60k members in 161 countries in fiat.

So we now have our own currency that is equally fair to all of the community members and can be transferred to fiat or any other crypto after ICO. This also gives the community members the freedom to choose whether they want to hold InToken and follow the development of it or sell for something else.

There surely are many scam projects in the markets at the moment, so if you are planning to invest I would strongly recommend to do your research and maybe ask advice from someone you really trust.

HabBear  gave a great response below:

Third, ICOs (initial coin offerings) are being used by companies (startups mostly) as a way to raise capital and serves as an alternative to having ads in an app or charging for "in app purchases", instead you have these tokens that are you can redeem for goods or services offered by the company but you're not tied to them, they can be traded for other tokens to get other benefits and other companies.

I would add a couple of points to this:

Four, crowdsales empowers future development in a good way. ICOs give start-ups the ability to crowdsale and not have to deal with private, angel, and venture capital investors.  True: scammers are putting ICOs in a bad light. But as this space matures, hopefully, standards and better rating systems will emerge. But you will never get rid of greed and fraud.

Five, the potential of a TRUE Trustless Network has not been realized. The space is still in its infancy and could remove many of the problems associated with privacy violations, selling of personal info, and ad schemes.

Six, BTC may be the current king, but it has serious issues with security, transaction speeds, and scaling...All of blockchain does.

At (7) transactions per second, exactly how is BTC going to provide point-of-sale transactions for the globe?

Ethereum isn't going to do it either, they max out at (20) per second.

Compare that to VISA who is the largest provider in the world at 24,000 per second and can handle global point-of-sale (physical and web) or enterprise level transactions.

Blockchain cannot support large data sets or enterprise level systems.  A real world example was December of 2017 when the action for all crypto was drastically up and transactions took minutes (at times up to 30 minutes) and exchange withdrawals were being made unavailable for a day or more. (bc of the consensus delay)

Imagine 5 people standing in line trying to checkout at a physical location and lets say the transaction time was 3 minutes.  The 5th person would wait 15 minutes just to start checking out.

That's not gonna work.

Not to mention PoW wastes massive amounts of energy.

“In a distributed consensus based on the proof of Work, miners need a lot of energy. One Bitcoin transaction required the same amount of electricity as powering 1.57 American
households for one day (data from 2015).” [2]

Clearly, there is a lot of poor engineering in existence because the space is new and we are learning.  BTC is a great store of value but is not practical for making everyday transactions possible.

This is exactly the point all the crypto-haters and economics people make in articles, blogs, and on TV.

Nowadays, it is because individual nations want to be able to control their own monetary policy, simplistically, the rate of growth of the supply of money, for the purpose of economic growth and/or stability. This becomes much less effective if several distinct economies are forced to use the same policy. It's like if New York City and Albany were forced to spend their city budgets the same way.

Simply if there is only one bitcoin, there will not be any trading platform sprouting up,
Types of guest altcoin are born only to make the background for bitcoin and they use them to make a profit.
It is the same as the name of the stock in IPO, so the value will also change over time.

Most altcoins are all erc20 or base on ETH. Altcoins may be useful in some other ways if their altcoin has a goal that is helpful to the economy. Some altcoins are shitcoins that won't be used by people. Some made altcoins for those people who can't afford bitcoin, in some other ways they use altcoins for smaller business to earn profit.

Also, once another coin experiments, if its a success, it can be added into any other coin,

we don't have so many currencies.
Can you kindly explain why Eth is not a currency even if it can be converted into fiat. Thanks.

same we have with fiat money, each country has its own, ppl usually prefer USD or EUR in crypto world it would be bitcoin always and some other players.

The problem is, that everybody thinks nowadays they could create soemthing like the second bitcoin. SO if you have some computer skills and know how, its no problem to create a token on ethereum base. So they use it to make some shit token which they can distribute via airdrop and sell the biggest amount they hold on the exchange. The same you can do with coins with own blockchain. And thats why the market is flooded.

Good thread. I have read about other altcoins though I don't think they will dominate more with Bitcoin. For sure Bitcoin is stable.

There's no need for that.
The bad alts will disappear as fast as they were created.

Unfortunately, during the existence of bad alts, someone will have time to buy them. The more the alts becomes, the harder it is to understand all of their diversity!

But if you already know that some alt is bad, why would you buy it?
And if no one buys some alt it's volume will decrease and it'll eventually lose it's value and die.

On me so I have such same opinion-now on site https://coinmarketcap.com/ - more than 1600 tokens and more than half of them do not have any prospects - it's just garbage - it is necessary to exclude them from the rating and will be much better.

Till will get no regulation a lot of new uselss coins will born (also a lot of scams will run). We need a sort of regulation to improve the quality and eliminate useless coins and scams.

Most importantly, you have to check the use-case of these tokens. That's the huge factor in determining whether the tokens are creating value or not

Even gurus who are well versed in the crypto industry are sometimes mistaken! Therefore, you never need to invest in alts funds borrowed! You can risk EXCLUSIVELY a small part of your own funds, which is not critical to lose!

It's because it's so simple to create a crypto, and they all want a piece of the cake. But as you may know already, only a few of them have an actual use case.

I guess we are still in a new era where cryptocurrencies are finding their path to a future existence. That's why  in this new era, there will be more competition to prove which currency is the best among the same sector. Will see what happens in couple years.

Hi All,
Please help me understand in plain English how will we benefit from so many currencies?
I see so many startups with decentralized blockchain ideas with their own crypto currency.

We only have few legit coin here, number one is bitcoin and followed by Eth and Litecoin, and there were still some but to say that every single merchant will gonna make their own coin it is impossible to last because it will just make it and end up with scamming. I am telling that is true.
