Post by: charleshoskinson on June 07, 2013, 08:53:22 PM
What does one million new Bitcoiners mean to you? To the Bitcoin Education Project, it means a $1,000 Bitcoin, thousands of businesses entering the ecosystem and a movement that will overcome the regulatory challenges of the future.

Our mission to bring one million new users through the power of community built free education. Our partner Udemy has given us the first of many great platforms with our flagship creative commons course:

Thank the fellows who have volunteered their time uncompensated for the past few weeks to make this happen. It both humbles me and gives me hope that Bitcoin will thrive regardless of the challenges ahead.

Thank you for what you're doing. The more people use bitcoin, the more stable it will be. And opportunities will grow too, with more shops and businesses willing to accept bitcoins.

Let me see if I have this correct. You are getting paid via donations for something that I have been doing for free for over the two years and, in fact, have lost mega bucks in pursuit of the same goals.

Madness!

I am not paid. Donations are going to the Bitcoin Education Project to assist it in achieving its goals. Maybe in your world Lawyers and Accountants work for free, but in mine they don't.

For example, we seek to develop a peer reviewed course on the laws, regulations and taxes businesses have to deal with if they choose to accept bitcoins. It is functionally impossible to develop this content for free. It requires professionals with specific domain knowledge and skills alongside many hours of research also their vocational credibility.

I'm sorry you feel that isn't a worthwhile expense nor our goal of bringing one million new users into the ecosystem by the end of 2014. Phinnaeus I really do respect your work. Especially with Bitcoin 100, which is why I reached out to your organization to do a series of lectures on social innovation in the Bitcoin world.

The reality is that sometimes we have to invest a lot of time and money to get a movement where it needs to be. Bitcoin is growing up and if our community is careful and disciplined, then we can keep the values such as pseudonymity that many of us came here for. However, we cannot accomplish that without education. I, like you, am committed to it.

People need good reasons to use Bitcoin that they can both understand and agree with in order for Bitcoin to become mainstream, so education is key... lest they be dissuaded by fear mongering, rhetoric and lies.

Please accept my apology, Charles. I was totally off-based with my comment. I will not even bother with explaining why, or what state of mind I was in when I wrote such shit.

Everybody else, please support Charles in whatever capacity you can.

Peace.

I'm sorry for my rough reply as well. With Matt and Greyhawk floating about, I sometimes get overly defensive in my comments.

A wonderful project. It will help people like myself, a merchant who accepts bitcoin ONLY. (I am the owner of knives4bitcoin.com)

I am doing my part to make the use of Bitcoin a reality. I ship orders paid for purely by Bitcoin. If there are ways to USE bitcoin, it will become VALUABLE. And educating them is the first step.

I want to see a future of bitcoin surpassing all obstacles and government-provided suppression. I support you 100%

This is why bitcoin will win in the face of all adversaries.

I support charleshoskinson as well as Phinnaeus Gage. Both are on the same team.

Thank you so much for your commitment to Bitcoin. We'll see a day when Bitcoin Accepted here is as ubiquitous as Visa

I began listening to the udemy bitcoin series you put on. One question:  How come bitcoin is constantly being referred to as "the bitcoin" and not just "Bitcoin"?

I started a poll here to see what people think: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=231801.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=231801.0)

It's a leftover from referring to Dollars as the Dollar. In the remake, I will use Bitcoin instead of the Bitcoin.

That's cool. I was just confused for a moment.

I actually have listened to your entire Bitcoin Udemy series and have enjoyed it very much. It was very educational and I have to say your knowledge of economy is very impressive and well explained to a new person.

Why are you encouraging people to sign up on Facebook to see this?

What does one million new Facebook users mean to you?

"Signing up enables you to track your progress throughout a course and engage directly with your instructors and fellow students. It also enables us to deliver an amazing experience via on-site recommendations and course recommendation emails for the courses we think you will love the most!"

Less tracking please, not more.

These are the trees.  This is the forest.

Again, I do not own nor control Udemy. They are providing free bandwidth and hosting for our content. Please do not infer I control Udemy's account creation policies. I'm also sorry that you feel money grows on trees and I can distribute terabytes worth of bandwidth without a partnership like this.

That is weak.  You made a mistake.  Admit it.

I didn't make any mistake. I chose a MOOC provider that gives me free bandwidth, has converted my course to an Iphone app, gives me statistics about my users including which lectures they have watched and demographic data and other features. You are getting a free product and yet you complain? Seriously dude? You're weak and entitled. If you don't like it, then please just move on. No one is forcing you to consume our free content nor are you even forced to use facebook for the account creation.

TippingPoint: He didn't do anything wrong. He used a free host to supply his lectures to everyone. If you don't like his distribution method then just keep walking and don't be so bitter to someone actually making an effort to help the growth of bitcoin.

What have you done to help anyone lately, TippingPoint?
