Title: Electrum mac wallet keeps crashing
Post by: K210 on October 21, 2017, 03:55:36 PM
My bitcoin electrum mac wallet keeps crashing whenever i try to send bitcoin. I think it is due to the high node connections my wallet has. Is there a way to limit the amount of nodes electrum connects to?

That won't/shouldn't be the reason for your crash... generally Electrum connects to around 10 nodes (these connections are where it downloads the blockchain headers from)... the actual Server you send through is listed below the node count and there should be only one.

What version of Electrum are you using?
What version of MacOS are you using?
Have you tried previewing your transaction before sending?
Do all other functions of Electrum work ok?

I am using electrum 2.9.2
My os is osx 10.10 (Yosemite)
Everything works fine only when i hit send electrum crashes
Electrum is also hogging 100% of my cpu probably due to the large number of connected nodes
Its there a way to limit the amount of nodes electrum connects to? Maybe 2-3 max so it stops crashing?

If multibit was still functional i would not even bother with this crappy wallet.....

Like I said, I seriously doubt that it has anything to do with the number of connected nodes. Electrum is a lightweight SPV wallet. 10 connected nodes is certainly not a "large number" and is perfectly normal.

Do you get any error messages or debug logs when it crashes? It's possible that the version of Python you have on your system is not playing nicely with Electrum.

I remember an issue not so long ago, where there was a bug in one of the 2.9.x versions where it was constantly writing the wallet file data to disk... I don't recall the specific version that had this issue. Perhaps that is what your problem is? Maybe try downgrading to 2.9.1 or 2.9.0 and see if that fixes the issue?

You can find them here:

I'd suggest upgrading to 2.9.3, but apparently this is an issue with the OSX version on 2.9.3.
