Title: MyBitcoin: Email me a Monthly Statement
Post by: Bruce Wagner on December 15, 2010, 08:35:46 PM
Because I can see a potential problem...   FORGETTING that you even HAVE created some alternate MyBitcoin account...  (It's so easy to create one... then promptly forget that you created it!)

My Suggestion for a Solution:

_______________

I think there should be a Setting that offers to:

"Email a Monthly Statement to Me"

And the default setting should be ON.

Optionally, for security / privacy concerns, there could be a Sub-Setting under that:

   "Email My Statement"

     ~~or~~

"Email a Link to My Statement"

Thoughts?

Bruce

Maybe also an option to terminate old accounts (that you forgot about).

Or even an option to...  "Merge Accounts".....  ?

It would be a cool idea for any Bitcoin app to be able to send you a SMS or email or something. I wonder if you could make a script for this?
Seems pretty easy using PHP + JSON; getbalance then mail.ser.ver 25 email@other.net "You have " $getbalance "in your account."

In addition, we should be able to download the wallet, encrypted with some password protection.

So everybody who use mybitcoin can use another service, or a bitcoin client their computer/phone/etc.. even if mybitcoin goes down.

Probably I am not understanding what you want to say, but this is already posible. You just have to send the bitcoins in mybitcoin to your wallet.

That's not the same act. I just mean having a backup of mybitcoin's wallet.

This isn't possible under the current setup.  Mybitcoin.com uses pooled wallets.  Your receiving address is mapped to your account, but the client could move the coins around the addresses in it's pool without regard to who that address is assigned to, or leave them where they are even after you transfer bitcoin to another mybitcoin.com user.  Doing what you ask would require a rewrite of the site's multiuser client, at least.
