Post by: Simonsolo on October 24, 2017, 09:38:05 AM
Bitcoin Silver
Make Bitcoin Decentralized Again

DECENTRALIZATION

Bitcoin Silver implements a new PoW algorithm, Equihash, that makes mining decentralized again. Special computer hardware designed for BTC mining (ASICs) is obsolete for mining BTG, giving ordinary users a chance to mine with ubiquitous GPUs.

FAIR DISTRUBUTION

A hard fork of Bitcoin is the most fair and efficient method of creating and distributing a new digital asset. Coins that are created from a new genesis block always have ownership concentrated among a smaller group of people.

REPLAY PROTECTION

In order to ensure the safety of the Bitcoin ecosystem, Bitcoin Silver has implemented full replay protection, an essential feature that protects users coins from being spent accidentally.

TRANSPARENCY

Bitcoin Silver is a free open source software project that is built by volunteer developers and supported by a rapidly growing community of Bitcoin enthusiasts that stretches across the globe.

FAQ

What is Bitcoin Silver?
Bitcoin Silver is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain that will occur in December. At the predetermined block height, Bitcoin Silver miners will begin creating blocks with a new proof-of-work algorithm, and this will cause a bifurcation of the Bitcoin blockchain. The original Bitcoin blockchain will continue on unaltered, but a new branch of the blockchain will split off from the original chain. The new branch is a distinct blockchain with the same transaction history as Bitcoin up until the fork, but then diverges from it. As a result of this process, a new cryptocurrency will be born.

What is the purpose of Bitcoin Silver?
The purpose of Bitcoin Silver is to make Bitcoin mining decentralized again. Satoshi Nakamoto’s idealistic vision of “one CPU one vote” has been superseded by a reality where the manufacture and distribution of mining equipment has become dominated by a very small number of entities, some of which have engaged in abusive practices against individual miners and the Bitcoin network as a whole. By changing Bitcoin’s proof-of-work algorithm from SHA256 to Equihash, all of the specialized SHA256 mining equipment will be obsolete for mining the Bitcoin Silver blockchain. Thus, Bitcoin Silver will provide an opportunity for countless new people around the world to participate in the mining process with widely-available consumer hardware that is manufactured and distributed by reputable mainstream corporations. A more decentralized, democratic mining infrastructure is more resilient and more in line with Satoshi’s original vision.

How can I get Bitcoin Silver?
The Bitcoin Silver (BTSI) initial coin distribution method is exactly the same as that used by Bitcoin Cash (BCH). All Bitcoin holders who possess BTC private keys in December (block still to be decided) will receive Bitcoin Silver on the rate of 1 BTC = 1 BTSI (If you have 20 BTC you will receive 20 BTSI). You need to control BTC private keys in order to make Bitcoin Silver transactions.

Another bitcoin fork again. I think bitcoin silver is not good name like bitcoin gold. And when this fork train stops.

It's all about greed, especially when people see the opportunity to make money. What they fail to see is that in the long term, all these forks just create fear and doubt in the community and it serves to only hurt bitcoin and cryptocurrency in the long run. It will continue until the forks stop generating money and people stop selling off everything else to try and get this "free cash". Nothing in life is free, including these forks.

It seems Bitcoin fork is quite easy to be born nowadays . Today we can see one fork of bitcoin which is bitcoin gold (BTG) to be born with the price 380 usd at the moment and there will be one more the fork of bitcoin happening in November, 2017 (Segwit2x ). So why do they want to make more bitcoin forks? This fact will help bitcoin flying higher and faster . It also helps bitcoin to be used more popularly in the world . I will support this thread like this but Dev should have more detailed roadmap and plans for this project in the future. Thanks.

I'm seriously thinking this may be a joke, or OP was doing a quick draft and accidentally posted the thread.  ;D

No wallets, no website, , no news, not any information about 'the team', posted on the 24th of October just after the Bitcoin Gold hype is starting to finish, it basically tries to accomplish the same as Bitcoin Gold, no real differentiators or anyone answering to questions. I'm not completely against forks if they serve a purpose but this is getting a little ridiculous. Seems like we are going to start seeing a lot of these in the near future though.

The more bitcoin forks we have, the more the price of bitcoin itself will sky rocket as we have seen in the build up to BTG fork. Is it good for bitcoin? time will tell. What i see is a democratization of wealth, more forks equals more opportunity.

Comparison

Supply : 21 Million
PoW algorithm : Equihash
Mining Hardware : GPU
Block Interval : 30 sec
Block size (actual) : 1M (2-4M)
Difficulty adjustment : Every block
Segwit : Yes
Replay protection : Yes
Unique address format : Yes

Yes Bitcoin Silver will provide an opportunity for countless new people around the world to participate in the mining process with widely-available consumer hardware that is manufactured and distributed by reputable mainstream corporations.
While no technical details are currently available, Bitcoin Silver will follow Bitcoin Cash-style distribution methods and be available to BTC private key holders in December.
That's decentralize the people are free to making choice what's the coin will be have, supported and  they have nice concept let's wait and see what's will happen in it.

seriously...

this god damn cash grab gotta stop

Everybody can fork bitcoin at anytime. Nobody can stop it.

If you think a little harder, forking bitcoin is not different than creating an altcoin. As long as you can find enough supporters/buyers, as long as you can convince people to buy your product; it will never stop.

Oh look, another fork and dump scheme!

Ahhh yes, what a way to create free money. Can we have Ethereum Gold next?

Haha, I like your suggestion, it should be ethereum fork instead of bitcoin fork next time.

To me, all of these bitcoin forks are just one of the alt coins...

Yes Alt = Alt

the whole point of btc was to be decentralized. but the miners got a lot of power, so in fact btc as a project is a failure. the miners with their forking are like central bankers, they create money out of thin air. such a shame. thats why I think it is possible for another coin to take over btc

so basically does the same thing btc gold does. the market is huge for mining
its already trading on etherdelta
they have a crowd sale page where u can get 3k at a discount.
it will be launched December.
If its much more organized that gold which is still was able to come out at a decent price.

Thanks.

Looks logical indeed. Having many forks will create many btc alts which in turn will have their own markets and strategies to be known which in turn will make more people know the original bitcoin and will be able to invest more then make the original BTC price higher. More forks please?

Which one trading on etherdelta is different coin not this one so don't get confused by the similar name. This is not compatible to get listed on that exchange it support only ethereum based token.

there is confusion, there is another ann page also calling it self bitcoin silver.
it appears to be a token on the ethereum network. they are probably piggy backing of the bitcoin silver name.
they have a crowd sale collecting eth and btc.

The new altcoins being created from BTC are all doing the same, going 0.05-0.10 and dying just after.

The bad things I see are:
1 - BTG had a good idea, implemented the wrong way, with the wrong person.
2 - When someone really want to change BTC in a useful way, everybody will say it's just one more fork to get free money.

Whether or not we like it, this evolutionary process has to happen.
When the monetary system was first set up there was a lot of headaches.
And it took many years to perfect it. And the sharks still ruined it voor all of us. From the shore in the sloot.
Most of us know this in one way or another.
And still they are doing the same thing as the sharks that hold the monetary system hostage.
And basically broke it. All we can do is try to filter out the good coin and leave the rest behind us.
Stay positive in between the frustrations if you can. Don't let it get you down how frustrating it may be.

~8 years Bitcoin did almost fine, and now further two unnecessary noob-shit-cashup-forks per month?
this odd "game" can't be played forever without consequences. Stop this!!!

Agree on that.

There have been large numbers of Cryptocurrencies created which are forks of the various codebases. Now the full chain fork and airdrop are being exploited by a potentially unlimited number of projects, most of which will of course turn out to be scams.

People with a partial knowledge of crypto will not be able to navigate safely.

I think the best advice would be to steer clear of the airdrops, unless you can monitor things full-time, and continually move your coins in order to change private keys.

The full hard-forks need no action, unless you intend to sell every single one, and then you would miss out on the one potential winner.

Thanks.

I totally agree with this guy the Dev should be more transparent

Let's help developers and make Bitcoin Silver great again, lol
No let's help scammers get rich ! ))

Don't be too harsh. If you are holding Bitcoins in your wallet, then you will also benefit out of this. It is going to be a free airdrop for the existing Bitcoin holders. The developers may be getting rich, but no one works for free nowadays. But think about yourself. You are getting free coins for doing nothing, just like the case with BCH and BTG.

the biggest problem with these forks is that it can end up destroying the bitcoin in the future, it does not stop happening and it's getting boring.
the altcoins are getting super low because of these forks, because people who have altcoins swap for bitcoins to prepare for fork
this causes the bitcoin price to rise and the altcoins to lower.

when the forks quit people re-invested in altcoins thus causing the bitcoin to drop the price.

Indeed, but how are you going to let these unsuspecting people see this clearly?
Because most people just do something because it is too much work or not knowing what to look for.
Anyway, you will learn in the long run, or not.

I do not think so, because all other coins are born from the first so that's the basis for everything else.
And yes, I know that not all coins are based on the same code, but BTC was the first.

Bitcoin gonna dead soon by these forks as prices are too much inflated comparing to it's value ,making bubble burst possible.

Yes anybody can fork bitcoin but will the community support it?? that's the question
A non-supported fork = A worthless fork
Don't worry about the real Bitcoin.

Community should stop supporting g forks. If they truly want to make some new coins to improve an old coin. Start fresh. Genesis block. No premine. Heck add a 1% developer purse but no premine or any of that copy the whole blockchain. It is just damaging the community.

BTW BTG was a fast grab. Premine. Wallets used to steal Original BTC coins. Official pool took advantage of miners and did not payout blamed it on a fork and damage sdd for 12 hrs of mining. And oh hidden fee on the open source pool shared by the devil team.

if we can assume from the past, there will be a small price drop of various altcoins, because people won't let the opportunity for free money...pre-launch of b2x was a good example of that.
At least if all goes well, the alt coins are gonna be on sale :)

It's not a scam site.  It's the only "Bitcoin Silver" coin in circulation that I know of.  The symbol is BTCS and has been trading on Etherdelta and seems to be gaining some traction.  They are working on getting on other crypto markets and are working to have a wallet out by the end of the year.  It is an Ethereum Token coin, not another bitcoin fork, like this project is.  I doubt this project will be able to continue to use the name "Bitcoin Silver" as they have no markets anywhere as the other coin beat them to the punch.  Personally, there are enough forks of bitcoin and bitcoin's blockchain is too damn long anyway and shouldn't be forking off into "new" coins.  Transactions and confirmations take too long.  I've been mining Bitcoin Gold since the disaster of a launch and confirmations are extremely painful.  The Bitcoin Silver token on Etherdelta (being an Ether token) has extremely fast transactions without the inherent problems of the Bitcoin blockchain.  I have no idea if the Bitcoin Silver token group will accomplish everything they have planned as it is very ambitious but their coin is extremely cheap right now, being moved around quite a bit on Etherdelta, going to be on multiple markets soon, and transactions on their network are lightning fast compared to any bitcoin based crypto.  I'd rather use it than real bitcoin.  Real bitcoin is old and slow, and cloning/forking off of that isn't that great of a solution.

I dont really follow the project, but with a glance at it, I dont support the project, personally. It's not good, at least with the name Bitcoin Silver. There are no relationships between it and Bitcoin, as a result of this, developers should use another name, stay away from the prefix Bitcoin. I dont want to mention and discuss about the purposes behind the project. I will let it to you, make your own judgement by yourself.

bitcoin being open source has this side effect. Almost anyone can create a new coin from the cource code. At least there should be a rule that using the name "bitcoin" should be restricted.

looks like uranium fork can be a scam as both the websites provided in the Bitcoin Uranium page direct you to a law office / statement page

the platinum is also a scam as per https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-platinum-created-by-south-korean-teenager-as-a-scam-local-market-erupts

All these forks undermine the coin limit inherent to Bitcoin. After all, what is the point in having a coin limit if people just fork Bitcoin over and over, trying to cash in on Bitcoins success

Hello,

Before anyone here invests money, you should look at this info:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2270353.0

It could be that the two hang together and finally only hot air comes out.

Because BTCS is just scam, has drawn plenty of money in and now, he is on an island, and can be beer to the beach .. >:(

In the past week or so, I have heard of too many bitcoin forking projects. What characteristics can make bitcoin silver develop well? These bifurcations are superfluous. I think the Wright currency is the real bitcoin silver. ;)

I run a website at btcdiv.com (http://btcdiv.com) listing all forks and airdrops with dividends to Bitcoin owners.

I have now moved Bitcoin Silver to the "Past" section as I believe this project is abandoned.

Bitcoin Silver is no difference to other's which in the end it won't succeed anyway. It may have a value but not enough to surpass the price value of bitcoin it has right now.

Just look at it it was made to be dumped at exchanges, srsly even first value of it when it came out was simply dump. There are some forks that can and will stand for long period of time, but this ain't bitcoin silver for sure. You need good marketing to make others want to join your fork and you need constant development to do so.
