After the second world war, US became the most powerful country in the modern world. With nuclear weapons, space explore, big scientific progress. But what can be the reason for this huge power ? Military power ? Strong economy ? Diversity in society ? Or something else ?

Everyone just became very weak 1980's onwards (the decline of the US just wasnt that fast in comparison to the SU).
And now it is the turn for the USA to get weak while everyone else gets stronger.

Cycles everywhere.

The US entered the WW2 late and the war was fought in Europe - where factories were targetted by enemy.  While the US was not in WW2 yet  they had military industrial complex building weapons and ammo for allied forces.  And taking payments in Gold.  At end of war US had most all the gold.  And thus the Bretten Woods agreement - US Dollar was pegged to Gold at $35 an ounce. But the US printed too much paper money, and re-nigged on the Bretten Woods agreement in 1971. US Fucked the world and then talked Saudi Arabia to only sell oil for US Dollars. When you can issue a whole lot of currency out of thin air for free - it is easy to have large military budget. Take goods from rest of world and give them currency freely created and backed by nothing.

US is the most powerful country in the world.  Because they have develop free market economy that allows for great innovation and they have focused in developing a military and scientific structure that has allowed them to prosper in and ever changing world.

because US is dominating the world’s economic and political systems. With the strongest military and economy, the United States is capable of global power projection, giving it significant influence worldwide. in addition is natural geographical advantages. Competent and aggressive American policies further capitalize on these advantages and secure the United States in a position of economic, military and political strength.

Oh so the best inventions are the ones that kill and then you try to figure out how to stop the kill :P..

So if i want to invent the best way is to design something that kills then someone can come up with something that stops my invention from killing?..

Also it's very good at making drugs selling them to the rest of the world really cheap but charging their own citizens high prices like way to high :P..

If we are taking about the consequences of the war, then it was because of the fact that the mainland US is pretty much spared the damage of war. Now compare that to what happened in Europe. America was well-off by the end of the war that they can afford to fund the reconstruction of Europe. I believe that was called the Marshall Plan.

The colony in the Philippines was leveled but then again America left after defeating the Japanese so they don't have to see to its reconstruction.

Long story short, America benefited from technological advances invented in it (for example, the oil engine) and retained those advantages by keeping out of the war as long is it was possible to.

The use of the atomic bomb in the second world War was the very factor that made the USA to be feared in the entire world. Aside it's military capabilities,  the USA allies in NATO is one of the reasons why it's such a powerful country .

Because they are the most influential people in the world. In songs, shows, movies, clothes or any trends that will keep other nation to follow them.

geographical area is big and here industries and companies national resources are very high.the united states is navy. origins of the political power is high compare to other countries. after war they have to implemented well and build their country strong. it was one of the best country in the world. they are mostly first in all fields.

Probably already mentioned but that it avoided the devastation of WWII is a big plus. I don't know much about economics but the adoption of the dollar standard also helped afterwards.

US is getting actually less and less powerful every year which is passing, because the rest of the world is developing.

I guess economy is the biggest reason. Their GDP is close to $20 trillion and therefore they can afford to spend as much as $600 billion every year for defense purposes. Another important thing to remember here is that the USD is the reserve currency of the world. Therefore the Americans can get long term loans at very low interest rates.

U.S is powerful because they are feeding other countries especially from the middle east. Imagine the oil they are getting from the middle east

Mainly because USA came late for the party during the world war 2 and collected the spoils. Since all the other nations are destroyed, the US "gave help" to the other nations and of course the nations will owe the US. Since the other nations don't have crap, what they could give is information. Information from them plus the german defectors' info and tech, the US became nation supreme. Of course you want to maintain that position over the others so they strong arm them.

The fact is the USA takeover world leadreship after second WW,the main adventage for USA is that Japan is not bombing USA factories Germany is so far,all Europen great nations bombing each other., for me this is main reason for USA to be most powerfull nation in the world.

The answer is the Bretton-Woods agreement. No nation will ever be able to pull off such a nasty trick ever again, but that's your answer. After president Nixon stopped the Dollar's convertibility into gold, US domination continued by making sure oil can only be bought with Dollars. Now this domination is crumbling away, slowly but surely. Russia and China have begun trading oil for local currencies which is a good sign. Once this US domination is broken, people will see that the actual economical strength of the United States is way lower than anyone could ever have imagined.

Within 12 years USA will be second most powerful country in world. China is poised to be the most powerful country. In 25 years we don't know if USA will be still second. Just like Great Britain was the most powerful country 200 years ago. Right now USA is more powerful to China military because it is spending more but USA can't sustain this for long because they are earning less. China is becoming more powerful economically and militarily every year and USA can't stop unless there is a direct war with China and the USA wins.

As far as i know USA even in 1980's  was the most powerful country in this planet because of their hitech gadgets,powerful leadership and a unity which create them more powerful than other country.And even now after how many decades they are one of the most progressive which make them more popular not only in politics,hitech gadgets,sports but also in economy.

I think that is good policies, excellent leaders and the cooperation of citizens.

US was strategic in WW11. after defeating Japan, Europe was devastated by the war. it had no resource to build their countries, USA on the other hand, diod not suffer much after the war. it was able to have strong economy. together with other strategic advantages such as large population, capitalism and innovation, USA was able to lead the world in terms of growth and development, it also spearheaded the formation of institutions such as World Bank and IMF to lend to the world and control global resources. USA has also fought other smaller countries so it was impossible for them to grow.

I think that the most important thing is the approach to the development and management of this powerful country. There is no such disorder, which is observed, for example, in Russia, where clans are in power.

US did a good job in the past history. They have shown what they can and what they can do more. Eventually US build the string to connect with other country in different ways such as military, economy, workers, and others. US can never be defeated in my own views. They have upgraded gadgets, jets, weapon, and others. They still strong.

The main reason is that Russia's economy is much weaker than the US economy, so US influence is stronger. It is a law that still has not been canceled. And availability of natural resources is not an indicator of economic power. Today we see that the price of oil fell, and the Russian economy got huge problems. Willing to sell the oil, gas and other natural resources are many, and able to efficiently and effectively use these resources to produce the necessary modern products is small, so it is a minority and affects the world. This includes USA and Russia, unfortunately, this list is not ranked.

US has become the most powerful country because of the countries it has colonized. The influence they made to countries they manipulated. But when you look at the statistics today, it's different not.

I would disagree. The Americans have not engaged in colonialism as much as the Brits or the Spaniards. They became powerful because they didn't participated in the world wars (they participated in the WW2, but only when the Axis powers were losing). As a result, the other super-powers of that time became weak, and the Americans became stronger.

That industrial power grew during World War II granting them vast amounts of economic might not seen in the world since. It was also the only country out of the Big Three not to be attacked on their home soil except for a few special cases on the West Coast.

With its high profile regarding economy, industrialization, urbanization, and the like, US is really the # 1 in this world. Plus its citizens are more educated other than other countries, so there is rapid growth in the country.

The US is definitely not the most powerful country in the world. But they're definitely one of the most powerful. This stems from the fact that they have alot of resources at their disposal. The US is a vast land and alot of natural resources are in it. It could sustain a huge amount of population with that they could develop more. Aside from the fact that most of the US achievements came from the backs of slaves and prisoners. Slaves build monuments and sincs the world war, prisoners of the war develops their scientific achievements.

USA, of course is a very highly developed and advanced country but developed country is defined on many parameters and in many of those parameters USA is not on the top. What you probably meant to say is it being the largest economy in the world and yes it is the world’s largest economy as of Dec 2016.

So overall answer is, no USA is not the most developed country but is a very highly developed country.
So for the rate of development in US, that is why they are more powerful

I'm sorry but you really have to go around the globe a little if you think the US citizens are more educated than other developed countries.

I think the US is the most powerful country due to the number of reasons.  The United States is the world’s only superpower, dominating the world’s economic and political systems. With the strongest military and economy, the United States is capable of global power projection, giving it significant influence worldwide. Few countries dare to oppose America’s political agenda.

it has a very good geography, compared with all other big powers, like russia and china,

it has only weak neighbours, it has a very good agricultural basin with rivers, the country if it is united like it was after european colonialism it became very powerful in projecting power.

additionally you have to understand that the usa is protecting saudia arabia and the gulf making its us dollar being backed by oil which everyone needs, making the american financial institutions very powerful they can fund a lot of things.

Under current circumstances, neither Russia nor China is capable of waging a war against the United States. If these nations unite, then it is a different story.

I think it has allot to do with the military capabilities. When you consider the fact that their military expenditure is greater than all other major powers put together its not hard to see how they secure their success. Add to that the dollar is the worlds reserve currency and it is illegal to buy oil in any other currency other than $ and you have a recipe for success. All the innovation follows

China is also struggling with its economical situation. And very soon, the population ageing will affect the productivity there (just like Japan). Despite the huge federal debt, United States will remain as the strongest economy for many years to come. Probably as long as the USD remains as the currency for international trade.

US can be considered as one of the most powerful countries in the world. It is considered to be a giant nation as all eyes were always in them. I think US gained this through a strong will to improve their economy. They've mixed their wants to innovate in technology, in military premise and in science. They continue to make their country greater than what they are in the present. They not became stagnant and complacent on just being the strongest economy but continues to do it in other aspect. I don't know the full story of how US makes their country great like this but I think it is something worth to consider.

Money and military.  China has probably surpassed Russia as their economy continues to grow and will compete with the USA for superpower status. 

The US is a fiat currency ruling country, which has the highest prices compared to other countries' currencies. But regarding the military, if I see Iran, China, Russia and North Korea, I can not conclude. Just look at the news in various media they seem to show each other their latest military technology to the public since a few years ago

Well, everyone ran to the USA during the 2nd world War to seek refuge. Back then the USA was a free land, a no man's country. So I guess when different people of different economies who had different techniques to dealing with life, different nuclear weapons, different technologies came together to be one, this is why the USA is now stronger than other countries.

Furthermore, who is going to challenge the United States for global leadership? The Europeans?  The Japanese? The Russians?  The EU today has 12 percent unemployment – reaching 26 percent in Greece and Spain – almost zero economic growth, a declining population in many of its member states. The Japanese are suffering from a declining and rapidly aging population, lack of immigration, a Nikkei Index that is still more than 20,000 points below the level of 1988 and debt that equals 240 percent of GNP.  Not to mention a weak economic growth in a last two decades.  While Russia may have grabbed the headlines for hosing the forthcoming Olympics and Edward Snowden, it’s no super power.  Russia has a  trade profile of a Third World country, a GNP the size of Canada, which is less than 15 percent of the United States GDP, no soft power, Silicon Valley, Hollywood, Wall Street or highly rated universities.

US is the most powerful country in the world because they have the most nuclear weapons in the world after Russia(currently, around 7000). They have the biggest Army in the world with over 1.4 million personnel .

US has invested a lot on herself, it has the will power and human resource and all that it takes to be the most powerful nation in the globe

I think it has to do with its laws and constitution that at least in theory tries to make everything fair for the common man. That at least help prevent some abuse, compared to other countries. Not to say it' still not corrupted, but it's better than the majority.

The number of nuclear weapons doesn't really matter. It won't take more than 100 of these nukes to destroy this whole planet. So what is the point in owning 6,000 or 7,000 nuclear weapons? Also, rather than the number of weapons, the capability per warhead matters more.

Military power and strong economy contributes established power so i do agree that these are the some reasons why US has been powerful country after WW2.

Because they have the best and most advanced technology than to other countries I guess, they can provide good qualities of weapons and also then have a lot of professional persons in every aspect of professionalism. They have the most advanced teaching of learnings that's why the US is the most powerful country in the world.

I think because of their rules and regulations that implement in US, their government is good and the economy is growing. And their leaders are responsible and aware of their citizen and aware of what people needs.

US is only country that fought World War 2 in two fronts. USA is the country with the largest economy in the world. They promote innovation and free market to the world. With free market there is a big competition in developing new products. That makes the US economy so strong. Also there is no doubt they also have the most powerful military in the world.

United States tops the list as the most powerful country in World. It has military commands spread throughout the world and it can project power anywhere. It boasts of a technologically advanced military as well as sheer numbers (particularly in the Air Force). Its Navy has more fighters than Russian Air Force. Same goes for Army, though Army has more of helicopters. The Air Force is yet larger. Reserve currency of the world, military expenditure and bases around world, high tech items, large man power available, political influence over world.

It all begins with history, the history where the United States became a powerful country in ancient times, but look at today, does the US look strong?
I think the US is strong because of support from small countries, just try your country against the US certainly many other countries are ready to defend the US, if it is certain ,,

While there are many countries that made great strides in the last several decades, but they also suffer from serious problems. So there is no country who can challenge the United States for global leadership.

Rather than the military, it is the American corporations which make the US the most powerful country in the world. The US corporations such as McDonald's and Walmart are present in every nook and corner of the world.

There are many factors that make the US a powerful country, but I think is  The power of the United States has its roots in the American control of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, the most used trade routes in the world. This strategic positioning gives it natural geographical advantages.But it is important to note that the United States once collapsed financially, completely, at least twice and perhaps three times in the late 1890s and early 1900s.my point something right begins with something wrong.

I think the reason for America to be strong because of the two things that is military and economic, they colonize other countries with their economic policy, and if there is a disobedient country they will mobilize the military so that the country becomes obedient to America, but in the next 20 years the position of America will be replace by china ;D

Any country that allows free market capitalism to run uninhibited will be successful as this natural process will encourage innovation, savings and investment.

Unfortunately since Nixon, America has been in decline.
The process accelerated  in the 80s and 90s when American companies reinvested their capital abroad.  American politicians failed to react and now we see the end result.

Countries that produce more quality goods become more powerful over time. America lost that status to China a long time ago.

I think the main reason why United States of America is the most powerful country in the modern world is because of their consistency and good strategists. Historically speaking, United States of America rose into power because they took advantage in everything they have been through. And when they get that, they will never let that slide away to their hands. What they do is gain more, use it to have more amd continue again ana again, much stronger but at the same time more fragile. They think more about their country's interests than their personal interest. They know how to maximize their resources and they know to gain more sources.
