Title: BTC Cash transaction time.
Post by: Peter789 on November 03, 2017, 11:35:16 AM
I sent my newly acquired BTH to  trading platform for exchange.
Given the exchange was asking for 20 confirmations it took about 4 hrs for  transactions to be completed.

Has anyone else made this observation?

Most exchanges wait for 20 confirmations until you are credited your deposit.
The block generating time varies extremely. When difficulty on bch chain increases its more profitable for miner
to mine on the btc chain. This results in a long confirmation time. The time varies from minutes to hours.
Its better not to support hardforkes which use the same hashing algorithm.

if by BTH or BTC cash you mean the altcoin named "bitcoin cash" then that is not out of ordinary. the time between blocks and how difficulty works (apart from the adjustment of difficulty) are exactly the same as bitcoin which means the confirmation time (which you are calling transaction time by mistake) are the same.

on average there is 1 block every 10 minutes in bitcoin and all the forks that follow the same rules including bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold.
which means 20 confirmation in 4 hours is normal.

they ask for more confirmation (20 versus 3) because BCH network is less secure.

Bitcoin cash is not faster than bitcoin core in terms of transaction speed and BCH is less cesure than bitcoin core.Haha.I don`t know why bitcoin cash exists.Just a bunch of miners and devs wan`t to make some money
from the newbies who are trying to use this failed cryptocurrency.
I`m waiting to see when BCH transaction fees will become higher than btc core fees. ;D

I have never experienced this. I do bch transactions almost everyday and I have been fortunate that I get confirmed very quick.. No more than 20 min. Four hours is a very long time to wait for confirmation. Lets hopes whatever the problem is, it gets sorted.

Four hours because 20 confirmations were required on the exchange he was using buddy. Not 20 minutes for 1 confirmation.

Thank you Hodler. Yes I mean confirmation not transaction. Thank you Bob too.
It took about 4 hours for all confirmations.

Now I wait for the BCH/BTC ratio to improve and trade my coins.

Bitcoin cash is very unstable when in comes down to transaciton speeds. Basically what they do is: they are mining bch when it is profitable and transactions are very fast almost like ethereum. But when mining bitcoincash is not profitbale you can wait days before your transactions is confirmed. They are trying to fix that by forking bch again and making adjustments to EDA protocol which will update now every 600 secs which is good for me .

Thank you Gambit.
I have just recenly done some illuminating research on BCH that would be unfair to reveal here.
I note that i sent 3 transactions.
1 at 830am
2 and 3 at 930 am.
Strangely transactions 2 and 3 arrived first while no 1 arrived late.

if you will, please send me a pm. I am insanely curious abut this; plainly I will say that  I think certain transactions are being prioritized for conformation, by a certain actor.

but anywho, this network is a very young and very unstable  network. until and if more people start supporting BCH with more mining capacity, it will be like this. we have come to rely on standard times for he major coins, it is nothing new for a very young coin or a very unpopular coin to have ridiculously long, and crazy variable confirmation times.

a good reason not to invest in this asset until it matures a bit (wait to see if it will survive, this is honestly not a sure thing).
