Title: avalon 741
Post by: 1975Eddie on November 03, 2017, 04:50:36 PM
Hi everyone, thanks for looking.
I just bought 2 Avalon 741s and am expecting it by fedex next week. everything says the controller will not go wifi and im in a place where Ethernet just does not exist. only wifi. my question is, can I run the Avalon from CGminer without the fancy UI? I think I can from pouring through the posts here but I need to know what version to use. I currently have 2 versions running 2 different types of asics , the gridseeds and the gecko science 1384. I got em running with a little help from this site. Im earning about 500 satoshi a day. currently about .03USD. so far this is just a hobby. I want to make it more.
thanks again for looking

Hey there,

I ran ethernet for my miners, but This setup guide goes over how to run the controller off WIFI, someone else a little while ago said it worked for them, I just can't remember the thread.

Also next time, this would be best in the Mining support thread, or searching and posting in 1 of the other Avalon 741 posts. Good luck

Just make life easy and purchase a wifi extender with an ethernet port.  They're cheap, easy to setup and problem solved.

I ran an Avalon 6 using an Iogear GWU624 (WiFi to Ethernet adapter) for well over a year. There is apparently a newer one on Amazon (aka the GWU627). There are almost certainly other vendors with similar devices.

If you are more inclined to tinker, you can also take something like Linksys WRT-54GL router and make into a WiFi to Ethernet bridge. I have also done that because I had an obsolete WRT-54GL router that was working just great when I upgraded to a newer device.

Lots of ways to skin this particular cat......

thanks all.
this cat has been skinned. however now im having PSU issues. it cuts off after a few minutes. I think ive solved that because now its been on for over 2 hours. and it still hasn't cut off. I think it was a poor connection at the PSU. but now my hashing is nowhere near the 7.3 TH that it was advertised. its closer to 3.5-4 TH. I left the voltage modifier at the default. (0) im a little disappointed.  currently my slushpool estimated daily reward is .00019855  it changes but stays around there. at 7.3 TH this puppy should be producing a lot more....

What Psu are you using, and on what type of circuit. A fee of the support threads lately people have been using underpowered PSU'S and it's led to reduced hashrates.

Are those hashrates on the pool side. What does your controller say you are hashing at?
