Title: Wattman sucks! Can OverdriveNTool completely replace the need for Wattman?
Post by: tf2addict on November 04, 2017, 02:35:12 AM
I so sick of Wattman.  Lack of profile support and constant crashing/resetting of parameters.  Come on AMD, this is pathetic.

I just discovered OverdriveNTool.  I like what I see so far but I need to know if it is safe to uninstall Wattman and rely completely on Overdrive?

Other tools lack one important ability I think...a way to choose between graphics and compute

Wattman is a joke.

MSI Afterburner has been beating it hands-down NO COMPETITION for longer than that Wattman garbage has existed.

I agree, Afterburner is the best but on my rigs it simply doesn't work with my AMD cards and I am forced to use alternatives.

Wattman would be ok if it just provided profile support.

What do you want your profiles to do?

my Afterburner works on ALL my cards

Its just that some AB versions don't work with some driver versions, and people are not aware

if you use claymore you can always use -cvddc -mclock   -cclock i only use Afterburner for fan adjustment but you can still use -fanmin -fanmax in claymore.

My personal experience with OverdriveNTool has been fantastic. I used to use claymore's clocking and under-volting (AB can't under-volt memory) feature and don't know why I was getting very frequent GPU hangs and rig freezes.

I set all my desired clocks and volt in OverdriveNTool and then .bat which would set the clocks using my pre-defined profile silently on start-up (30 seconds delay) before miner application starts running (run the miner app after 30 seconds). I use claymore fan control on my AMD rig by setting target temp (-tt) and AfterBurner fan control on mixed AMD-NVIDIA rig.

No more hangs, no more crashes, no more freezing!

It would be nice if OverdriveNTool was available in a normal .zip file instead of that wierd NOT WIDELY SUPPORTED .rar format junk.

Just a comment , RAR has been around forever and most people use it.  I do agree that I don't like the ".7z" format.  I'd prefer RAR. If you go to official rarlab.com site it is free and no malware..

Don't know when they changed from .rar to .7z but I find BOTH of those formats irritating and worthless in today's computing environment.

They made SOME SENSE back when DIALUP was the norm for file transfer and they could literally save minutes off of a transfer, but they're a total waste of time and effort TODAY when they might be lucky to save *A SECOND* off the file transfer time but waste a LOT more time than that dealing with the file itself.

i have six rx570 and use overdriventool 0.2.4 with not many issues at all
only problem i've had is the card in the 16x slot keeps re-setting back to factory every day or two and my power goes up a bit
i just reload and apply.
was just looking for an updated version and saw this, thought i'd comment.

have fun !
