Title: Newbie story - Everything started with a Big Mac...
Post by: MuRrCoin on November 06, 2017, 06:02:35 PM
Hi everyone!

2 years ago I bought a Big Mac (around 5 Euros) to bring to a good friend that was really hungry ...I did not want the money back so he proposed to give me the equivalent in BTC; He explained a bit about it, convinced me to download Mycelium on my phone and then he sent me 0,017 BTC

Then I totally forgot about it...
...last week he messaged me: "hey, did you ever open/check again Mycelium...!? If not, go and check!"
So I discovered "that Big Mac" is now a 5/6-course dinner in really nice restaurant ::) :o!!

That's how my story with the Bitcoin started and why I've decided to join BCT Forum!

I've looked around and I found a lot of guide and Q&A here that I'm going to read to understand deeply this new (to me) world!

My first question is:
Any suggestion about the best way to invest my "BigMac"...? May I just keeping it or...?

A special thanks to my "Big Mac addicted" friend!

Bye from Italy  ;)

Hello to Italy,
I am also a newbie and want to invest maybe more than $5. I am joining the question about how to invest the best these days. I can invest $500, but Bitcoin looks too high. Anyone? :)

I started bitcoin with bitcasino, a minecraft server. I remember they used to give you 0.001 every 30 minutes. I used that and built that up to 1.7 BTC. Unfortunately I spent most of it but I still have a few BTC left that I am keeping. I recommend you keep and invest more into BTC.

am sure you will get some tokens
which you can then use for your investments if you like

That's a good advice, I am planning to participate in some bounties. f.e. this one (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2245156.0) looks promising.

Wow! What a story! You are lucky, aren't you?
I would recommend to keep it for now, at least till the next BTC fork. And then make a decision.

Learn how to do altcoin trades I am sure it will help you multiply that bitcoin that you obtained from treating a friend of years a meal on big mac. Another tip I can give you is to convert that into fiat now and rebuy some bitcoin later when price got pretty low. The probability of btc price dumping soon is high and the latter might be a wise move to do. Just always remember to follow crypto prices to know when to act.

This is exactly how I've introduced some people to Bitcoin: have them install Mycelium, and pay them for whatever they paid for me.
It's a much nicer way to get people "hooked" than trying to convince them to buy Bitcoins. That's up to them once they like how it works (and goes up in value).

You went from 5 to 100 euro in 2 years, I'd say your investment is totally fine the way it is!
Just to be sure: did you backup the word seed from Mycelium, so you can recover it in case your phone breaks?

Learn how to do altcoin trades I am sure it will help you multiply that bitcoin
That's gambling, and a great way to see your 0.017BTC turn to dust.

You can't time the market.
Based on this exact same logic, he should have sold his 0.017BTC for 5 euro 2 years ago, and wait for Bitcoin to drop. People who did that are still waiting, or they bought back in at a much higher rate.

Hi everyone!

2 years ago I bought a Big Mac (around 5 Euros) to bring to a good friend ...

Very nice story. A friend of mine told me to get in around april 2017. I had no time; to many other projects at this time. When he remembered me some month later i joined in the BTC and had to pay $ 3,500 for one BTC which cost about $ 600 some month before. :(

A very "late" hello to you as you are quite late Buddy.
If you ever tried back to research about Bitcoins before and put some money instead of buying some more "big macs" either to your friend or yourself, I believe you might have held a lot of amount in fiat, which if you even spend on some luxurious foods, will never diminish the quantity and with the increasing values and only give you some great opportunities to eat up more and better. ;)
But I like the way how you forgot about your coins which were near to something and are now worth too much, this could be said to be the best strategy to hold by forgetting about your coins (but not the private keys of course). :P

Thanks everyone for the precious replies and suggestions!

Basically:
1 I should just keep it
2 I should follow "forum bounty to get tokens"...where I can find them?
last question:
..May I create the "MurrCoin" ??? ;D

Yes, unfortunatley I know I'm "late".. my friend told me that if instead of playing all day Ogame (back in 2009 we played together) we had mined with the same pc, today our life will be different... but "Should have, could have, don't matter!"

Ha, that's a very similar story to how I introduced someone to bitcoin, I offered them bitcoin instead of cash for lunch and since then they keep a close eye on it and buy every now and again.  You could just keep it like you have done and then come back in a few years and see the growth, you might be able to buy a house and a nice kitchen to cook yourself a meal in.

I'd keep it as after all it was only some change you were given a while back. You could always convert to other currencies if you wanted to try others out? Otherwise you could always sell it, buy it again when the price drops then re-sell for more money.
Depends on what your preference is.

Thanks for the tip...;)!
What is an ICO? :)
An ICO is an Initial Coin Offering, solely created to make the creator rich. It means someone create a Token, usually on Ethereum, with the click of a mouse. Then, he makes up a random story with lots of promises of high returns and how his idea will change the world (just like many others do each day), if only he and his 2 friends would get 50 million dollars to implement it.

An other way to describe ICOs are "unregistered securities", already banned in China and very high up on the radar of the SEC (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission).

ICOs are a great way to turn your 100 euro into less than a Big Mac again.

Dude he w freaking Kong again was this? Your friend tells you to look at your ewkket and ver a year later. I'm not understanding this. You should keep the Bitcoin you have and buy more to add to it. Buy as many bitcoin as you can. Keep saving them and grow and grow and then today's small investment will be your big Mac but instead of a 5/6 star meal you will be able to afford something much bigger like maybe a whole week of those meals or more!! Depends on how much you want to invest.

And here is the above mentioned friend :)

Very glad you are becoming active on the forum, now you should squeeze all the fork coins from your wallet (bch, btg, btx) and you can start play with them. They are free, like magic internet money! ;)
You can find tutorials here or ask me in real life.

I would suggest:
-dump bch because they are overvalued and evil
-dump btg for the same reasons, but if you want to play you can wait for a pump that will probably come (but keep coins ready to dump)
-keep bitcore and register to their weekly airdrop (more free magic internet money)

Than you can search for airdrops (again, free money) and build your account until you can wear a signature, so you can start your first signature campaign.

Welcome to bitcoin :)

The point is that I have just 0,02 BTC...even if it will value 10 times more it won't be that much...100 times it would be another story  ;D!

Considering that I don't have money to invest I think I will evaluate to invest some of those 0,02 BTC in some altcoin..the main point is: which one?? ??? ;)

Nowadays there are tons of ICO. They are like mushrooms after the rain, too many but the quality is very bad. Now isn't the good time to look at the ICO market.

Currently the crypto market is a far west and you will probably lose your money.
If you ask me like now the most undervalued coin is monero, but I know i am a bad trader. Absolutely avoid suggestions and do your own research, here everyone is shilling his coin. Do not buy ICOs unless you are an absolute beliver in the project AND the team.

If you want to immediatly start trading to see how it's easy to lose money you can use 1broker to buy commodities (I.e. gold) or stocks (I.e. google), this would be far less risky than alt-cryptos you still don't know anything about, and if you want rollercoaster you can leverage your investment too (avoid it).
