Title: Thoughts on OpenBazaar
Post by: adamantasaurus on November 07, 2017, 07:53:11 AM
Hey Everyone I started using open bazzar for my online shop and haven't got any sales as of yet. I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on this program good or bad? Have you used it as buyer/seller how was your experience?

I tried it as a buyer when it was just new and fully hyped, I barely got it to work, slow and annoying, so I never tried it again.
Ebay is terrible, and OpenBazaar managed to be worse.

It's definitely not end-user friendly and I doubt that there are many active users.
I've read stories of sellers getting a few sales here and there, but seems like you'd have to advertise a bit yourself.

Haven't used it myself recently, can't imagine many people have.

This was the version 1.0 of OpenBazaar, which had some fundamental limitations and wasn't very user-friendly.

The new 2.0 came out last week, and it's completely different. It uses IPFS so stores are always online, it's Tor-compatible, and it's much more stable and user-friendly. Definitely don't judge OpenBazaar until you've tried the new version:

I work on it so if anyone has questions, let me know.

the idea is brilliant. not so many users, unfortunately.. though I often see their ads on facebook, they should promote the platform more and morein different ways!

It tried to replace bitmit at the time and I think it was done unsuccessfully. It probably didn't do enough advertising aswell as having a poorly implemented interface which is very difficult to navigate. Bitmit if anyone can remember was done very well and every was quite user friendly. There's other online marketplaces online but nothing that has lived up to previous ones so far.

OpenBazaar isn't the most user-friendly and requires users to download a program, which puts a lot of potential buyers off.

If you're looking to sell digital products for Bitcoin, I'd suggest taking a look at CoinMall: https://www.coinmall.com. We're a web-based platform and accessible anywhere. We've also got a lot more features which OpenBazaar simply doesn't / can't have and are actively working on making the marketplace much easier to use and interact with.

If you've got any questions about CoinMall, feel free to send me a PM!

I've never used it due to the download.

Dude there is hardly anything going on at CoinMall and as far as I can see it is a centralized market place. The big advantage of OpenBazaar is the decentralization. The authorities cannot take it down, even if they wanted to. The download is compulsory, because you are supporting the decentralization of the market place.

OpenBazaar has not taken off yet, because people cannot see the advantages of using it over centralized market places. ^smile^

I think that the website you're suggesting has even less items for sale than Openbazaar :P

I've taken a second look and seems that people are definitely making money, there are thousands of listings.
Take a look at the items for sale, no need to download their app.

https://rawflood.com/ (Open Bazaar search engine / directory)

Seems like there's a lot of drugs and other illegal items, but I wonder how well the other legal items are selling.
They've got a lot of choice, that's for sure.

CoinMall has about 50 items for sale. OpenBazaar just passed 10,000 listings. Not really a comparison.

If you haven't tried OpenBazaar 2,0 yet (it only launched a week ago) then you need to check it out.

OpenBazaar 2.0 currently: doesn't support any cryptocurrency except for Bitcoin, doesn't support auto-shipping digital goods, doesn't allow you to access your own store on another PC easily, has abysmal Bitcoin fee estimates, uses extremely expensive ways for moderated payments, doesn't/can't support low-value products.
The list goes on and on. CoinMall has all of these features and does everything better. Not really a comparison.

With a cumulative funding amount of $4.2 million it's appalling that you guys have managed to only get 10,000 listings.

Very terrible indeed slow process of request and transaction, never should have tried although they offered a variety of services but regardless they require a fast speed internet but in our internet is very terrible so if I were to access to this it would take a lot amount of time before the process and before I can view their available products.

If the first version was crap, why would I ever give them a second chance? After watching the Tutorial video I still don't want to install it.
Current Bitcoin fees make it useless anyway: the $2 sample payment is less than the fee required. As much as I'd like to sell small items for Bitcoin, it's not worth it.
Maybe BitCache can solve this in the future, or the Lightning Network, but both will take a while.

Dude OpenBazaar is great and they're going to be supporting other currencies soon. You can sell what you want and not worry about a damn thing. Yea the Bitcoin fees are at an ath but imagine when this is fixed...OB2.0 will dominate.
