Title: [ANN][PRE-ICO] R_Block | Blockchain Based Referencing
Post by: needmoney on November 07, 2017, 06:48:06 PM

R_Block’s vision is to create an ecosystem in which workers can easily own, manage and monetize their proven skills and experience data. R_Block will be a decentralised CV/Reference network, bringing references and proven skills into a CV. For the first time ever, workers are able to own their reference data and monetise it through C.v tokens. Our unique solution to the problem in referencing will be the framework for a tokenized careers ecosystem. Then become a self-sovereign identity management technology. The employment history data itself will become a core part of identity verification. Every Worker has an employment ‘digital fingerprint’ which can be used to uniquely identify them. Years of credibility and performance proof is a powerful identity claim, like no other. Synthesized by reference data in the R_Block network.

Blockchain Based Referencing

Web (http://rblock.co/) | ICO Website (http://rblock.co/#subscribebar1) | Whitepaper (http://bit.ly/2xOQ8xW) | Blackpaper (https://rblock.co/Blackpaper.html) | Slack (http://bit.ly/2zk3yE4) | Blog (https://medium.com/@R_Block) | Bounty Thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2372239) | Twitter (https://twitter.com/_R_Block)

MISSION

To transform R_Block into the world’s first skills ledger & careers ecosystem. Establishing Workers as the rightful owner & controller of their Reference data. To become the industry standard for proof of employment history & performance across careers and beyond. Utilising Web 3.0 to create a proof of credibility & long term performance identity claim compatible with ERC725.

PROBLEM

References supplied by an ex-colleague, are the most reliable way to authenticate a worker's’ competency. They are the most reliable long-term performance indicator. Ten years ago References were the primary measure for gauging Workers’ competency, today References have lost their rightful and inherent importance. What’s changed?

TRUST.

In 2017 we’re less willing to share data without incentive. We’ve been bombarded with spam and experienced our personal data being misused for too long. Hiring is £400 billion market. The popular centralised recruitment platforms naturally look after the parties that pay their bills - recruiters.

The balance is off, frustration is at an all time high and the knock on effect is a decline in use for recruiters too. Referencing is a primary example how data is being abused. It’s more often used by Recruiters for sales-leads rather than for verifying competency. Frequently, a Recruiter says that they need to collect upfront References from a Worker. In reality this isn’t true, the Recruiter uses the contact information for pitching business.

This kind of misuse has led to scepticism about sharing personal data [12]. The abuse of Worker information has diluted the trust in the Referencing & hiring in general. Furthermore, red-tape has muddied the water on what can be shared. Which unduly deters Workers from utilising the powerful tool. Lack of knowledge & tangible incentive has contributed to Referees becoming tight-lipped over supplying useful information.

In 2010, 75% of employers would Reference Workers for technical jobs, but today only 25% of employers take References [5]. What has broken this tool?

DATA ABUSE.

Referencing used to be the best tool for companies to establish Workers’ competency. Now Referencing is just a validation check to back up decisions that have already been made, simply to check there are no ‘skeletons in the closet’.

TOOL BECAME CHECK.

Like the centralised platforms, referencing doesn’t help Workers - checks at the latter stages of the recruitment process can only impact them negatively. After years of duplicitous requests, Workers are now less willing to share their Referees. Referees are less willing to provide detailed References due to lack of incentive. We’ve reached a stalemate.

Referencing is now usually only conducted after a Worker has been offered a role, which has relegated Referencing from being a competency evaluation tool into a last-minute sanity check. Hence, we now have the phrase “reference check”.

R_BLOCK SOLUTION

Headline: We have built a unique SaaS tool which seamlessly integrates into the hiring process to rejuvenate referencing. This tool is the unfair advantage R_Block has to attract users to build out our tokenized careers network.
1. Tokenisation allows R_Block to put the right incentives in place for Referees to share quality reference data.
2. R_Block empowers workers by giving them the opportunity to own this data and monetise it. By becoming searchable & contactable.
Only once this network has been proven can we realise our vision of becoming a identity proof relied upon for high level identity claims.

how will the system deal with the purchased references? And if a person specifically leave a negative reference because of his personal non-involvement?

Great point! Social hacking is an extremely important concern that needs to be dealt with. Concerning your first question, in the same way people could lie about their qualifications on Linkedin but don't. Why? Because other people on the site could find out and if they do it would have a detrimental effect on your career. This is the beauty of using the Blockchain. Given that your reference will be left on the blockchain forever it would be against your interest to lie.

On your second question, I'm not sure if I have understood you correctly but I take it that you're raising the concern of people giving negatived biased references due to personal reasons. Ultimate completely eliminating personal biases is impossible but this problem can be mitigated in three ways. First, through people selecting their referees, second people having multiple reference sources and lastly the fact that you have access to your references.

Here is a link to our video explaining the concept:

Let us know if you have any more questions :)

Why you need tokens? What about functions of tokens? Why price of tokens must increase?

Good point. The token has 2 key utilities in the ecosystem.

1. One of the reasons for the 50% decline in referencing is the lack of incentive to provide detailed information. The R_Block ecosystem is powered by the referencing tool we have built, this collects data from real job applications. When a company pays CV tokens to conduct a reference, up to 50% of this fee is rewarded back to the referee. The network validators score the reference on how factual and detailed the data is. Then award the percentage of the fee earnt. The remaining 50% of the transaction fee is used for our buyback scheme.

2. Within the tech sector, we face another key issue. Workers get bombarded with approaches from recruiters whilst not looking for jobs so there's no incentive for workers to interact. There's frustration that there's no reward for time spent interacting and often Cv's and contact data is shared to no end. In the R_Block ecosystem, workers choose for their skills to become searchable. Companies search the network for profiles with matching skills then pay the worker in CV tokens to interact and reveal their full profile.

We've seen sites like Hired.com rise in popularity which empower the worker. R_Block goes one step further to empowering the worker by making sure they are paid for their time interacting.

Thank you for your question. For the product to work we need to make sure the references, certification, etc are credible. We are taking advantage of Blockchain's ability immutable so that if there are abuses it can be clearly identified.

Blockchain is a great way to store and prove your digital assets. We see skills and experience as no different. There have been many good whitepapers about Blockchain for prove of digital assets, one of my favourites is BitFury's - http://[Suspicious link removed]/1SzMmyo.

The second and arguably more important factor is the built-in anonymity it brings. We are trying to remove data abuse in hiring. Blockchain provides a network in which companies and workers can interact anonymously, purely based on proven skills. This has another very worthy benefit in destroying prejudice. In the R_Block network, it won't matter what university you went to, or where you come from. Companies will evaluate you purely based on your skills.

Very good point. The referencing tool integrates seamlessly into the hiring process. So the reference and skills data is collected in real job applications by previous managers. The reference scores highly by providing real examples of their work and the amount of detail.

The upvoting functionality exists within the hiring network. Companies in that pay CV tokens to interact with the worker and see their full profile will be given the option to upvote after interviewing or interacting with them. Hiring companies will be identity checked (Civic or Uport) just as referees will and the network validators will be looking out for this behaviour. There is an infographic on the site to explain how it fits together: https://rblock.co/

Does that make sense?

Good point. This would be an issue if profiles were purely skills based. But this is exactly the kind of problem we guard against. Since profiles are built up of proven references with confirmations of companies worked at and dates. This creates a unique digital identity in itself, profiles will be unique to each individual.

There are many different scenarios we have had to consider, I'll explain a couple of the popular ones. But let me know if you have something specific in mind.

Collecting The Reference
A company may be working with a recruitment firm to supply staff to hire. Usually, in this scenario, a recruitment firm will at least claim to be conducting references as part of their service with the client. We encourage both parties (the company & recruiter) to be involved in collecting the reference. The reference is collected via our email - private message exchange. The reference provided by the referee and will be passed by to the company or recruiter that initiated the smart contract in a form in an email. If the company is not part of this process, the worker can share the reference that has been stamped on the blockchain and their profile to cross check.

Job Board Network
Within this network companies and recruiters will have an interchangeable persona. They will be operating in the same way - just like companies and recruiters do on traditional job boards (Monster, Indeed). A company or recruiter will search via workers proven skills, then pay CV tokens to reveal their full profile and a chance to contact them.

Good question, thanks very much.

I think you can tie the account to the IP and phone number. In this case, the phone number will can change only after the video call to the administration of platform - that the identity has been confirmed. Everything is very simple.
2FA for account - necessary ..

The idea sounds good. When references come from other companies data is more reliable and that benefits both the employee and the recluiter.

Seems it's something like LinkedIn. You pay to contact employee, ye? But, i don't see difference between 'skill-proof' system.

I see R_BLOCK as a decentralized Linkenid. This is a very important fact. Each ICO will seek to attract developers and staff from there.

R_Block are creating a network of the top tech professionals, focusing on Blockchain first. This is potentially one of the biggest challenges for Crypto to attract the best talent to the right projects.

We're lucky that R_Block that we've been able to attract Ex-Google & an Ex-MIT research leader to the team. Very few can boast this. They obviously agree this is an important problem.

Have you ever saved a customer or manager by going above and beyond on a job? Then struggled to convey how much you were valued in future interviews? You need to start asking for references and owning them. Now. Your reputation is everything #Rep

The team is very strong and the additions of Tori Lane and Ahmed Nuaman is also very encouraging. Gotta say their profiles (and those of the other team members) are very impressive.
Dear all we have a massive announcement! Fabian Vogelsteller is joining our board of advisors. Fabian is a long-term open source developer and author of open source. Such as Ethereum's Mist browser, Ethereum Wallet and web3.js. Together with Vitalik Buterin, he proposed the ERC20 token standard, which started the ICO movement.

“I am very happy to see Blockchain Identity Standard’s and it’s use cases emerge. r_block is an interesting platform for verifiable claims around work relationships, and we will see in the future how important verifiable CVs will be. Great use case for ERC 725.”

Hey, any more announcements? when is the token sale?

Actually yes! Our token sale is starts next Tuesday: https://rblock.co/Crowdsale.html

We are honoured to have Keith Teare the founder of 3 unicorn sized tech companies on our advisory board.

Keith is the Executive Chair of UK venture company Accelerated Digital Ventures, and recently advised on the successful ICOs of ICOBox and Crypterium. He was a founder of TechCrunch, RealNames, and EasyNet, the first consumer Internet Service Provider in Europe and the first Cybercafe in the world — CYBERIA. EasyNet and RealNames both achieved Unicorn status during the late 1990s. Keith said:

“The R/Block team has developed a classic blockchain protocol that sits firmly in the trust space. Proof of Reference enables a person to have validated references that can be re-used over and over. A very valuable piece of data that is extremely time-consuming to gather has been made simple and scalable. I’m proud to help with their ICO.”

It is a pleasure to announce that we will be the first european partner of POA network.  POA Network is the first Ethereum-based public network with Proof of Authority consensus, reached by independent validators. They are building a public network for smart contracts that combines speed, security, and cost efficiency. They will be actively contributing to the development of the R_Block ecosystem.

Fundamentally, blockchain and DLT will reshape the way technologies will challenge the organisational structures like companies. This will be a huge challenge for companies like Uber who will need to rethink their business model.

However, we understand that we need to stay lean and move as fast as possible.

Hi Coinmarketcap is requiring around $100K in circulating supply for the token to be listed. However, we are listed on Bancor, Idex, etherdelta, etc

Do you mean as an recruiter? If yes, then maybe, it all depends on how it pans out and what I'm doing in the future, since it might year/s away this gets traction in my country.
I probably wont use it as someone getting recruited, I've never written a CV and don't plan on doing it.
But the tech is interesting and it fills a gap I know exists, and the potential adoption is unlimited for the future.
There is alot of interested people here, but right now it feels like it's no use writing until we see what the dApp actually can perform and looks like, we can't discuss anything unless we know what we're discussing about.
The ones screaming the same questions over and over are the ones who think "crypto" is about making money on quick flips and most likely are in over their heads. They are everywhere in this space.

40% more of the funds will be released upon main network launch. When this happens we will have more money to consider applying to some of the bigger (more expensive exchanges)
Developers anticipate the rebrand to be the same time as the launch of the product. When this happens (combined with the 40% of additional funds)  they will have more time to concentrate back on applying and speaking with exchanges.
Currently developers have only released 30% of the funds from the ICO - so at the time of the close of the ICO it was $858,826

From telegram

As some of you know we are going through a rebrand and as part of this we are considering a company name change. Obviously this is a very big decision and a lot of factors are at play so we want to make the right decision taking all factors into consideration. In changing the R_Block name we will inevitably lose brand awareness as well as ranking organically on page 1 - we currently dominate the first page (bar one website) and a new more popular name might prevent this from happening for a few months at least. (These are things to bear in mind when making your decision)

For the new name we have been looking at the following factors:

~ The name must be memorable.
~ The name must convey trust.
~ The name must have some relevance to what we’re doing.
~ The name must have a cutting edge or futuristic feel to it.
~ The name must be one or two syllables max.
~ SEO friendly and searchable.
~ The name must not be an established crypto company or recruitment company in the UK (we have particularly struggled with this one due to the sheer number of crypto companies)
~ Reasonable domain available.

Over the past few weeks we’ve produced and sifted through over 6000 suggestions and conducted independent research as well as consulting with an agency. Based on the criteria above,  we’ve narrowed it down to 3 options. After this hard work we want to gift the R_Block community with the power to dramatically shape the future of this project. We are handing over the reigns to you, our valued community to define what we call ourselves and shape the future name of this movement. Here are the options…

1. RBLOCK - as you can see the beloved underscore has gone!  We appreciate this doesn’t bode well for SEO and ease of use. RBlock is arguably the most relevant because of the ‘recruitment’ and ‘reference’ element as well as being powered by blockchain. As mentioned above we have also got some brand recognition for the name. If we change it we will lose the SEO presence in the short term (3- 6 months)

2. ZINC
It’s short, it’s punchy, it’s memorable. Zinc is typically used as a catalyst in bringing two organic things together. Although the relevance is somewhat tenuous we think it best fulfils the criteria in other areas.

3. KAIZO
Derived from the term ‘Kaizen’ (the philosophy of continuous self-improvement) which is one of our core values (https://rblock.co/mission.html). Kaizo or Kaizu is short and memorable and has a futuristic feel to it. Both versions of the word are SEO rankable. We have also read that highly ranking scrabble letters work well for memorability and it doesn’t get much better than Z.

Please vote (link below) for your favourite name based on the criteria above. (please note we are waiting for the full report back from the trademark lawyer to see if they can find any potential infringements)

*Instructions to vote*

dApp: http://rblock.co/vote.html

We’re holding the vote on the blockchain! So you’ll need to have Metamask installed and be connected to the Ropsten network. You'll also need some Ropsten ETH to vote (get it for free here: https://faucet.metamask.io/). You can only vote once.

In venture capital there are always several rounds. If we have shortage of money for big exchange and marketing then print more tokens and raise more money.

And there are more coinceptions in the future, they also get access to more funds from the first funding once the product is released.
Read the whitepaper.
Great post by Luke explaining the model of funding, and a insight to their thoughts.

Developers are working on marketing through building a strong partnership network (which will soon be released) and of course the rebrand. They are building close relationships with ICP so that when they launch they will have companies and subsequently workers using it immediately.

Their target customer to begin with are blockchain companies as opposed to workers which requires a lower marketing acquisition budget.

As mentioned developers are working with a PR agency to coincide news articles with the launch of the product. They are continuously looking for new news angles and they are in talks with some big conferences towards the end of the year.

When is the network launch. Wasn't it supposed to be in April according to the roadmap? Thanks for any answer. I hope - R-blook will be greater soon.

Developers wrote the roadmap last year. The crowdsale and token distribution kept they busy until the end of March. They then went through a hiring process and had the full team by mid-April. These are some of the reasons things have been delayed. Developers will be providing more information on the launch later today.

WEEKLY PROJECT UPDATE

* Encryption protocol public-key cryptography.

This week R_Block has designed and implemented the encryption protocol which will protect user data. We’re using public-key cryptography to ensure that only the user themselves can access and control their work history data – true to the decentralised nature of the project. Read about it in our open-source repo: https://github.com/R-Block/wiki/wiki/Encryption-and-Key-Management

* Roadmap.

Despite some delays we have an official launch date for the end of June. The team are working very hard to ensure this happens and we don’t go over our estimates again. We are working with our PR agency to build relationships ready for the end of June and expect to send out two press releases between now and then. We will have a very soft-launch of the new brand at the Startup Grind Conference in 3 weeks time.

* Will dApps trigger the evolution of internet login?

We share our solution to the crypto communities login problem we think is holding dApps back from going mainstream. We walk through the R_Block first time desktop web login journey as a example use case for the newly created login standard EIP 1078…Read about it here: https://medium.com/r-block-blog/will-dapps-trigger-the-evolution-of-internet-login-369a3e85045a

#04/06 WEEKLY PROJECT UPDATE

* Data modelling & smart contract design.
In the past week we refined the design of our data models and improved infrastructure set-up, the smart contract designs are in progress and are on track to be QA'd & audited in time for the V1 mainnet launch. We’ll be implementing a bespoke contract to record the provenance of work identity claims on the blockchain. Web3 and IPFS helper functions have been completed for QA to speed up development in coming weeks. We will now be focusing on implementing the core web functions of the dApp and implementing processes for security by design.

* Styling & components
We set up Fela—a CSS in JS framework for styling our components and application. Storybook was also integrated into the application so that components could be visually tested and shared internally in isolation from the application. We spent some time looking into UI libraries and have decided to use Vuetify for the first version of the application so we can efficiently test and validate the UX ahead of investing time building our own components. Vuetify is a very popular and mature UI library built in Vue and implements near enough all components from Google's Material Design suite. This week we will start to flesh out the login flows and user profile page using components from this UI library.

* Using cryptography (TweetNaCl-js) to protect user data.
We have written and published an extended version of the encryption wiki page.

* Data science workshop. :
R_Block are partnering with Birmingham Uni and a Coding school to host a Data Science workshop this weekend (9th - 10th June). It's a 2 day beginners course into all aspects of Data science hosted at the R_Block office.

#08/06 WEEKLY PROJECT UPDATE

R_Block becomes ZINC
After working hard on the company name and conducting market research and the Telegram vote (thanks to those who contributed) we are thrilled to announce that along with changing our brand, we will be changing the company name to ZINC.
Expect to see A LOT more in the coming weeks...

We have included CVT since it’s still viable, IDEX will be a less important market for us as we move forwards. However we are open to changing the name if that is the consensus. Here are the other options:

- WORK - related to our market
- ZINCT - ZINC Token
- ZN - The chemical name for ZINC in the periodic table
- ZINC - Consistent with the name (One dormant contract listed on Etherscan)

Start-up Grind Conference & Start-up Grind Top 20 Europe Program.

We are exhibiting at the Start-up Grind Conference next week which will act as a soft-launch for our new brand. We will be distributing a press release in the morning of the 12th to coincide with the event - this will will include our new company name. We are really looking forward to exhibiting and networking with potential investors, customers and partners. In other news....

:mega: We received a huge accolade from the Start-up Grind Conference which is a big win for everyone…

ZINC have been selected as one of the Top 20 Start-ups to watch in 2018. They will be releasing a press release regarding this (we will send a link next week), but here’s an extract from Start-up Grind:

‘This has been the most time that we have ever spent in deliberation over selections. There are so many fantastic companies that the selection process has been extremely difficult to narrow to 20 companies.

We are pleased to announce that Zinc has been inducted into our Europe 2018 Startup Program. You are guys are part of the most elite group of companies we have ever had to choose from and it was very difficult to narrow to 20.

As a part of the Startup Grind family, now and forever, you have a corp of people who are and will be advocates for you on your entrepreneurial journey.’

Smart contracts
We’re in the final stages of implementing our own unique smart contract design and setting up Web3 functions that will record work identity claims on the blockchain.

Login & components.
We’ve worked on integrating the BE API login flow into our application so users can securely access their profile data and interact with the platform. We’ve also been integrating Vuetify into the MVP code base to leverage a suite of battle tested components that implement Google's Material Design spec. To differentiate ourselves from a generic Google application, we’ve been overriding Vuetify's variables and theme constants to make the components look like the ones Josh, our UX designer has created.

‘A race against time: future of blockchains’  🥁
Ali Azam from the core Zinc team presented the keynote ‘A race against time: future of blockchains’ at Blockercon yesterday. Over 100 people attended the event and his presentation was very well received. We have already been speaking with a couple of companies regarding partnerships as well as some blockchain companies keen to start using the product at the end of the month.

Payment solution
After much consideration, research and consultation, ZINC decided to implement a freemium subscription payment plan which can be paid for in tokens and fiat. Using a credit system in app to simply the UX for users. Recruiters and companies hiring can sign-up to Zinc and try it out for free, enabling them to test the platform, request up to 3 references per month. After this is used up, recruiters can opt to sign-up for the Startup or Enterprise plan, choosing to pay in fiat or ZINC tokens. The monthly subscription will enable them to conduct 20 or 50 references (plan dependent), and very shortly this will include ID checks. The credits can be used across the platform and one reference and one ID check will cost 10 credits each. This offers maximum flexibility where a user can choose where to use their credits each month.
