Title: [WTS/Groupbuy] Bitcoin Guitar Picks
Post by: notaek on June 20, 2013, 09:14:23 AM
I was thinking about ordering some custom Bitcoin guitar picks.  Not sure how many guitarists we have here, but I think it would be a neat thing to have.

The design would be a black pick, with the classic orange Bitcoin logo on it in the center.  The picks would be 1mm thick, and made out of Celluloid.

This will act as sort of a group buy.  The more amount of picks all of us buy together, the cheaper it will be.

The price in BTC is a rounded value, you will pay the exact price in BTC when the funds are collected.
Quantity   |     Price per pick
100                85 cents ~http://btcticker.appspot.com/mtgox/0.85usd.png
200                65 cents ~http://btcticker.appspot.com/mtgox/0.65usd.png
400                55 cents ~http://btcticker.appspot.com/mtgox/0.55usd.png
600                50 cents ~http://btcticker.appspot.com/mtgox/0.5usd.png
800                45 cents ~http://btcticker.appspot.com/mtgox/0.45usd.png
1000              40 cents ~http://btcticker.appspot.com/mtgox/0.4usd.png

This price, plus a very low fee for shipping from California (envelope)

The way this will work out: You say how many picks you will order.  I will tally up how many picks we are going to purchase between us.  Once we hit 100, then we know we will order at least a hundred.  Then, if we get enough to reach the next amount, 200, then we will order 200.  If we make it to say, 150, that doesn't work because we can only order 100 or 200, so the people who wanted the leftover 50 picks won't get any.

There is a 6-8 week lead time on these picks.  I will let this run on until the interest starts dying down.  I would prefer to do it all in one shot because of the lead time.

Once I shut it down and I know how many picks are going to be ordered, then I will start to collect the funding.  I have done escrowless trades in the past, highest one was for 1 BTC.  On WDCForum, I collected over 4.5 BTC worth of funds for a project and followed through on that.  Because of my history, I do not feel the need for escrow.  If it comes down to a situation where a majority of people who will not buy picks because of trust, or we have an outrageous amount of picks to be ordered leaving us with a high overall value in BTC, then I will be willing to use escrow (through John K) although the cost of the picks will go up a little bit.

I think it would be great if we could get this done.  Let me know what you guys think.

I will start it off by buying 10 picks.

I might be interested in this, but only if we get past the first price tier.

If the price of bitcoins changes before you send in the order would that affect the prices we get?

Sorry for the delayed response.

The change in bitcoin price will affect the price you guys have to pay.  With the recent change in BTC price, the price will need to be adjusted.  I tried to find a BTC/USD price ticker so I could tie the price to the dollar, but had no luck finding one :( .

One person in interested in buying 800 of these guitar picks.  This puts the total at 840 picks.  It is hard to rely on one person to buy this many, so when I place the order I will have him pay first.  If he does, then I will have everyone else pay.  This is to ensure that we will actually be getting the discounted rate that comes with buying 800 picks.

I do not have pictures of the picks.  As I mentioned before, it will be a  black pick with the orange B logo on it.  I can't make any guarantees on how the picks will turn out, and I will not offer any refunds (unless the picks are really really jacked)  I do not believe that we will have any problems with this though.

Finally, since we already have reached 840 picks, this post will continue until we reach the maximum order size of 1000 picks.

The prices (in dollars) for the current price (800 picks) and the best possible price (1000 picks) are as follows:  800 picks - 45 cents each, 1000 picks - 37.5 cents
You will pay the bitcoin equivalent of this as close to the order date as possible.  I will let you all know when I am collecting the BTC.

Sorry guys, look like the guy who said he wanted 800 picks is a scammer.  Not surprised...   This does mean that we go back to the first tier of pricing.

This puts us in an awkward scenario because I am not sure how many decided to buy due to the low price.

I have updated the price table in the OP, and if you no longer want the picks, or want less, edit your post or delete it.

Sorry to see that he was a scammer. I'll still buy five.

How thick are they?  What's the surface like (e.g. smooth, textured)?
