Title: Just bought a used s7. My first miner. Anything I should check?
Post by: A.Delaney on November 15, 2017, 03:34:09 AM
I received my first miner a few days ago. It’s looks good. I noticed when I flip it upside down and back. It sounds like a heat sink me be loose in there. I can see it slightly moving when I turn it over. It’s not much but it’s still moving. Will this create a problem? Is there anything else I should check?

The boards in the s7 and early s9's are all slightly loose in their slots so some sound when tipping them over is normal. Hold the boards in place when you move it around - sound gone? If so then all is well.

Used s7 from where? eBay, Amazon? One of Sidehack's mod'd ones sold through ASICPUPPY?

Ah yes. It’s the whole board. Thank you. I bought it on eBay. It looks to be in good shape. If I ever figure out how to get it hooked up mining we will see how good it really is.

I have this power supply. I ordered the wrong kit but they said it would still work for the s7. The breakout board only has 2 connections per row instead of 3. How do I hook them up?

did they send 10 cables?
did they send 2 rev:5 x-adapter?

We includes All PCI-E high grade cables 24 inch 16AWG Kit includes:

(1) Delta 2400watt Platinum 94% efficiency Power Supply 208V/240v
(10) 24in PCI-E 6pin to 6pin cable set
(2) Rev:5 X-Adapter, pre install, wired and tested

( 8 ) 3M Rubber foot pads
Dim 8 1/2W x 6 3/4L x 1 3/4H inch

Please note that the breakout board must be installed on the right slot of the power supply in order to power on. The open slot on the left will need to be covered with electrical tape(included) to avoid accidental contact and possibly shorting out the power supply.

as I read the description  I see an error as it say 2 boards not 1 .  they then added a sentence later saying there is 1 board.

I would ask them for the second board   since those boards only have 8 jacks and they gave 10 cables.

they fucked up.

note what  I bolded.

that said if they refuse to correct their in the description

you could order this from them

they should correct the error so the mistake does not happen again

They sent two x5 boards. I didnt know if I could have two cables on one row and the third cable on the next row. I see some are labeled power and some ground. Which ones are power and which ones are ground on the s7? I don’t want get this mixed up and fry something. Also do I need to lube the board to get it connected to the power supply? It’s seems to take a lot of pressure to get it slid on. I haven’t got it on yet.

You just need to use a lil elbow grease getting the breakout board on the first time, they are very stiff. Also, all of those plugs on the breakouts boards come from a common rail in the power supply. You can mix and match them to your hearts content and they will work just fine.

I think I may need a different breakout board. It looks like between the two boards there is only 8 positive ports. I need 10 for the s7 it appears.

Depends. Is the s7 stock or has it been undervolted/underclocked? If UV/UC then it *could* be happy with 2 power cables per-board. Stock the s7 pulls 1200-1300w and needs all 3 PCIe power cables per-hash board.
