What webwallet where you using, i assume blockchain.info? You will need to export your private keys from there in order to sign a message from your account. Exporting from blockchain.info is rather difficult, but possible, since everything is generated locally in a .json file. I've used the following guide in the past, you should try it, https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-2l6xOqcbjs9QWEqSh72RD1d8EEdvG_hQuEXw_f_o6w/edit If you were using a webwallet like coinbase, then yes, you're doomed and there is no way of signing a message with an adress from them. Yes I mostly use blockchain wallet. I do have access to my private key. But what I do with it? I must say I'm not keen to submit my private key to somewhere I don't know. That topic explains on how to sign a message, you don't need to submit your private key to anywhere. Sign a message using the address that you used on your hacked account and then contact either cyrus or theymos for recovery. Yes i would say it does, but it is not 100% secure / verifiable, email accounts such as gmail could get hacked aswell, especially when you use the same password on SITE X, Bitcointalk Z, and gmail account Y. If the DB of X gets hacked / leaked, so will both your gmail + bitcointalk account ( if the hacker has any brains ), but your private keys / bitcoin wallet won't. It shod be enough. 100% for sure in this life if I remember correctly was only a death and taxes. |
