I think something like the 64MB option would satisfy even the most optimistic near to mid-term txs volume expectations. At 64MB you get 1000 to 2000 [optimally using Segwit] or a million or so transactions per block - that is around the number you need to make microtransactions viable - assume 1/10 cent per transaction as the fee for low priority transactions.
