Title: Is a fork happening or is Google news messing with me :(
Post by: daweller on November 18, 2017, 09:53:28 AM
I keep reading this news about a fork is going to happen in a few hours...
then I read news stating that it was called off.
Can anyone recommend me a good reliable bitcoin news website?

Basically, look for those reputable news sites like BBC, NYT, the Economists... but for Bitcoin, I suggest searching up CoinDesk for anything you have doubts on. Yes.. it is true that the fork has been called off, take a look at these recent news. A small setback for a greater leap, I guess.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It seems like the fork wouldn't have succeeded, even if they had followed through with it:

Apparently there's a bug in BT1's node code that would have prevented the hardfork from being triggered in the first place. This "upgrade" would have basically shut down the Bitcoin network until a patch were to be released and widely deployed.

No fork will happen for now. Just stay connected with important crypto publications like Cointelegraph, Twitter groups etc.

Thanks for the update, after official cancel S2X was not making sense at all to continue but I guess was gonna happen in a minority chain that would die soon, but if they did not succed that is even better  ;D

Yeah it is not going ahead, best to check crypto news sites for the proper crypto related news as they are more up to date with happenings.  Obviously this forum is a great place to keep up to date as well.

Nope, fork is still not happening. But some personalities are still on it like brian CEO of coinbase they said they're "monitoring it". However, when the actual event considering some people will push it, it was a fail as blocks were stuck from the node their running. There was a bug on Garzik's code. lol

This is almost too obvious to mention but check the dates on what you're reading...things change in just a few minutes/hours when it comes to markets.

Last time I check. Blocks are stuck and devs are failed.

they keep saying the fork has happened but when i check the blocks that are mined by SegWit2x chain i see no block being added to the previous one which was the fork height meaning the block number 494782. the nodes are stuck there which means nothing is happening on that front.

if i had to guess i say those who say fork has happened have bought the future market token (the IOUs) and are stuck with them after they got dumped.

The Hard fork just got cancelled recently that's why Bitcoin's price went down and Bitcoin Cash got the pump. They attacked the Bitcoin network with transactions they put the blockchain into flood causing panic to little investors of BTC and some supporters of BCH. Another Hard Fork is coming up this december Also known as Bitcoin Silver.

Its better just not to expect any forks happening soon. I've heard the news about that fork and it not pushing through. I'm not sure what s going on with the people behind it but it's causing quite the confusion if you're monitoring

Yes, it's called off. However, there were still a few miner claiming that they would continue the fork on 18th, bit I believe the forked network was dead due to no enough pow on it.

Lol what. What's showing up on your Google news? I tried googling it and this is the first result on the "Top Stories" section:

https://www.coindesk.com/no-fork-no-fire-segwit2x-nodes-stall-running-abandoned-bitcoin-code/

It's dated today and iIt says:

Quote
The Segwit2x bitcoin fork may have been formally called off, but as many as 150 nodes still running its code have stopped accepting transaction blocks.

But yeah, it's all so confusing. Coinbase apparently sent out an email that the fork will happen, but it seemed like it didn't. It honestly just looks dead at this point and it's a wonder how it's still being brought up like it is. It should just stay dead, really.

Its true that's the reason why the price of bitcoin fall down and cash pump it up. Well the good news is the fork is cancelled recently but the bad news is another fork is coming in december. Any ways if the fork appeared then it become for us also because we can buy more bitcoins and can hold them till the fork end.

Perhaps this news is intended to make another attack on bitcoin. The miners once again want to turn on the pump bitcoins with cash and sell high with the rest of your coins. Bitcoin is easily returned to their positions and they managed to sell the entire inventory of coins. I don't believe in bitcoin cash and therefore won't go on about them even if bitcoin will again decline.
