You can't mine on VPS in general. As soon as they'll see constant 100% load they'll terminate your account very fast.

Ok, I want to give this a try. Can you suggest any altcoin and software?

"AMD 2.4 GHz" is way too broad a description, there's been plenty of different CPUs from AMD working at 2.4 GHz. And since it's VPS, you're most likely sharing it with other users. It's not worth it to mine anything with it, you'll get a couple cents per day at best, and that will last for like 2-3 days — before you get banned for violating the user agreement (which usually written in a way that prohibits unrealistic = mining loads). If your time is worthless you could try to mine XMR with it — just download xmr-stak-cpu or claymore cryptonote miner. It'll probably take you quite a while to figure out how to use the miners and to find a pool that you could actually withdraw the peanuts you'd earn from (not trivial at all, especially with monero, most pools have minimum withdrawal sum set so high that it'll take you weeks to earn enough with your "amd 2.4 ghz").

Weeks? More probably months....or years
