Title: How to stop e-mail spam
Post by: joshuaissac on June 29, 2011, 11:08:39 PM
I was on the Mt Gox e-mail list thing, and now I'm receiving spam to my main e-mail address. Any way to stop this?

The only safe thing to do, is generate a new email address for each time you give out your email address.

Various email systems use different ways of doing this, but in general you if your regular email address is

joshua@aissac.com

then use

joshua+disposable+mtgox@aissac.com

(some systems use -)

Once you start receiving spam, then at least you know who leaked your address. If you get fed up, just forward
all incoming email to that address to /dev/null.

You could forward all your email to a Gmail account and let it sort out the ham from the spam. But once your email was harvested, there's no going back unfortunately...

I usually just reply with a small letter asking them to stop.

I usually use the disposable addresses thing in Yahoo!, but Mt Gox was one of the few sites I put my main e-mail into. I might have to try the GMail method if the spam keeps coming. Thanks for all the advice!

I had a gmail on that database, and the only spam i got because of the leak was 1 simple email with the tradehill referral thing ;) So, use gmail, it will solve your problem lol

I like E4ward for temporarily email addresses:
http://e4ward.com/

Unfortunately, I neglected to use one of these for my MtGox registration. That's what spam filters are for, I guess.
