Offcourse you can buy ethereum, litecoin, or go investing on some ICOs but i dont understant why people say the price of bitcoin is to high to buy, you can just buy 100 usd and the value of bitcoin can increase and youll get profit from it. its not like you need 1 full bitcoin to "have" bitcoin

Ethereum is the only one but it's not compete the bitcoin on the mass adoption but basically the ethereum try to compete the bitcoin on its own technology. As per there is a lot of the problem and debate about the scalability of the bitcoin and so many altcoins are trying to find an alternatives way to fix it. Even fork coin not has the best scalability.

I think bitcoin will be 'king' forever. Almost every trading pair is against btc. A lot of coins can be technically better or have more options but bitcoin was first and i think it's very hard to replace that. I like to look at it like it's gold...what's the use of gold nowadays? We have a lot easier payment options but gold price still remains high.

Until now, I don’t see any altcoin being the tough competitor of Bitcoin. Every coins are different.

The nearest altcoin to BTC is ETH, you can try researching on it.

I think ethereum. The ethereum is currently pretty good at $ 400 but in a few years eth will catch up with bitcoin. There are now a lot of coin builds based on the ethereum platform.

Any coin has a chance to rival bitcoin. We are so early into crypto that anything is possible. Right now Ethereum is the closest. Bitcoin may fall one day but for a few years it will probably still be the strong leader.

I agree with what you said that etherum has a very good chance of becoming the best altcoin today. I see the popularity of etherum can show that etherum is the closest rival, indeed etherum can not compete with bitcoin but I am pretty sure that etherum can pose a threat to bitcoin. The etherum price may not reach like bitcoin, but the volume of transactions owned by etherum is the real rival for bitcoin today.

Activity token on Waves, number competition, the ultimate Bitcoin killer, lol you not. if there was any real competition for Bitcoin, you would have asked the same question about that coin, if for a millisecond we'd to assume activity tokens to be the real king here, then what would be the alternative to that?

In terms of actual uses then bitcoin cash is the closest competitor to bitcoin as it is a fork of bitcoin and in many ways very much the same, in terms of competing to be no 1 then ethereum is the closest competitor.

Bitcoin cash is against bitcoin and it is actually forked coin, miners are shifting between these two many times within a week to make profitable mining. However bitcoin cash can't dominate whole crypto market like bitcoin does.

Ethereum is different than bitcoin but it is still number 2 by marketcap and might grow more in future.

The bitcoin dominance percentage throughout the cryptocurrency prices over the market is over 54% that alone already dominated the half of the digital market so for a tough competition in terms of popularity, demand, price, and investments, bitcoin is the winner without a tough fight, but in terms of features, flexibility, token friendly based on its blockchain, transfer speed and fees, some altcoins can compete with bitcoin it may have a tough fight for this category, ethereum and the rest from the top 20 (except fork bitcoins) are the one who will give a real match falling for this kind of categories.

Competition in cases of? Market capitalisation? Value? Technology? or what?
All in all in all, I personally dont think that there is an altcoin that is giving bitcoin tough competition, bitcoin is been around for quite sometime now and have all credits to be referred to as the king of cryptocurrencies. I would say that in terms of value, 42 coins gives it some competition for now since it has only 41.99 coins in circulation, but other than that I see no tough competition in any of the existing altcoins in any way.

Litecoin is faster and more convenient in transactions. Additionally, many people dealing with cryptocurrencies prefer working with Ethereum. Ethereum platform is also used to create new alts. Thus these currencies can have in future the same importance BTC has.

Actually, there are many which give competition or are better than bitcoin in technology, but in terms of market cap ethereum is at the 2nd place so you can consider it as a big competitor. but bitcoin has the advantage of 1st cryptocurrency which will always stay with it and it is unlikely that anyone will take place in bitcoin at least not at the moment.
So just buy bitcoin and put some money into good alts too which is going to be huge in future.

Nothing really "competes" with bitcoin unless you are talking about another coin competing for the attention of the same miners.
There are plenty of coins that rise more quickly than bitcoin, the problem being that they fall quickly as well - and unless you are good at trading and spotting the next big opportunity, there is a lot of risk involved in the lesser coins.

there is no altc that can rival btc, it's just some altc can continue to accompany btc and can be potentially good for future assets. eth, dash, ltc, xrp, xmr and waves.

What do you mean with tough competition? I don't think there is any other coin trying to compete with bitcoin anymore. Ethereum is a platform to invest in ICOs, so it's not competing with bitcoin. Then we have the tokens that "were born" from those ICOs, and end up being utility tokens, and they all have many different objectives, but again they are not competing with bitcoin. We also have the coins that want to act as digital cash, and from my point of view, these coins are also not competing with bitcoin. BTC is becoming digital gold, and there is no other coin that is trying to become an asset like this, and does not even has the potencial for that. I'm not saying other coins are not good. There are plenty of good coins out there, but they are not competing with bitcoin.

Yes 2nd place ethereum, it prices higher than all altcoins
There is always such a possibility but hard
Ethereum is going well but if bitcoin doesn't stop
nothing will change

Ethereum is one of those alternative coins that shows great potential for profit. As of now, eth is pumping and hopefully will continue to pump. Although, a dump is expected to occur, its price hike will be significant and noticeable.

I've read carefully all the posts in this thread and almost everybody tells there is no tough competitor/alternative to YOUR CRYPTOMAJESTY - BTC.
Maybe some day ETHERIUM gonna be a king but not the  next couple of years. Nowadays BTC is a reference sample in the cryptoworld like USD in fiat. Hope a little bit later BTC or another more progressive cryptocurrency will become a standard in the fiat/cryptocurrency world. Amen!  ;)

P.S. Ask anybody not here at our forum but in the real world "what cryptocurrency is #2 in the world?".
98% won't answer.
But if you question about crytpocurrency #1, I'm sure, everybody and everyone will answer:"BTC!!!"
IMHO, nowadays it's reason #1 in such an overwhelming growth of the first cryptocurrency.

right now, i don't see any coin that has the chance to compete with bitcoin to be honest. the closes thing could have been bitcoin cash but since the community doesn't want it, it will fail in its attempts to compete with bitcoin.

the rest of the altcoins each have some kind of issue, some serious issues and some fixable but all of them have something that prevents them from coming close to bitcoin.
you would be surprised to see how many of them actually have worse scaling issues than bitcoin!

There are good performers altcoin like litecoin and ethereum but I don't think they should be consider as tough competitor of bitcoin because so far none of them were able to meet the price increase bitcoin has ever had in its history though these alts increase in value but not good enough as bitcoin aside from that their demand is not as high as bitcoin, maybe in the future if this alts will continue to grow and appreciate.

Yes ethereum has the ability that alternate to bitcoin and other altcoins. Ethereum of being competitive in the market for long now. So it is the coin that is very active and many users to its platform.

so far I have not found Alts that gives a tough competition in terms of value and trading volume but in terms of transactions, Ethereum processed 44% more transactions than Bitcoin, it proves that Ethereum has successfully defeated Bitcoin in terms of the most use of transactions

Not sure what happened but I saw my post updated twice. Wanted to delete one of them but got a message stating deletion no allowed, hence, thought of editing the post.

Sorry about the duplicate. The forum site was slow and perhaps that had something to do with it. Not sure though.

Here is an extract from my original post-

There are many coins which stand close to BTC, however, we cannot compare BTC with any coins or vice versa. It would be wrong to do so as each coin has its own characteristics and platform to play on. I love AltCoin especially POS because I feel POS is the future. However different people have different opinions.

Whatever the case may be, I love this Crypto world.

I think anyone can cheat the bitcoin is ethereum most likely rival it, because now ethereum is being in the interest of many people and already in use as a transaction, so I think the biggest candidate to compete with bitcoin is ethereum.

Of course for me there is one altcoin that can outmatch bitcoin not in price for now, but for its applications. And it is Ethereum. Ethereum is a smart contract platform with Turing complete scripting language built in. This gives it a great edge as a development platform, but also significantly increases attack surface. and take note, eth has more faster confirmation time than bitcoin which gives it advantage. But I must say that these two shouldnt be compared neither other altcoins to bitcoins. Bitcoin and Altcoins are not competitors, but as apex species in their respective niches, similar to lions on land and sharks in the water. Lions and sharks are at the top of their respective food chains, but not in direct competition with each other.

I don't think any of the altcoins are giving tought competitions to bitcoin currently, but some of the altcoins may give bitcoin tough competition in the future. Coins like ethereum are good to invest in. Its price is stable and is rising stably so you might like to invest in it for a long term. There are many other good altcoins too but as of now i think bitcoins are the best and most profitable to invest in.

No one coin bet Bitcoin.but if you think about any coin that will be like bitcoin it will be Ethereum.Ethereum has a good roadmap. It is the best investment for now. Also, XMR is good one coin.

Agreed with you
No one coin bet bitcoin. Bitcoin is like than gold. The price of bitcoin is so much. I think ethereum will be like as bitcoin. Ethereum is now the best currency in market. I like also ethereum.
