Title: Devcoin Logo Vote - Moderated Post by: Aegis on July 02, 2013, 06:29:04 AM This is the devcoin logo vote thread. People who received generation devcoins get a double weight vote, people who have an activity of at least 50 but have not received devcoins get a single weight vote. Please vote in this thread on a scale of 0 to 99 (http://rangevoting.org/Why99.html), for your favorite logos from the gallery (http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_gallery#logo). You can vote for as many logos as you want, whatever you do not vote for will be considered a zero. Voters will automatically be recused from voting on their own logo.
Please use a format like: Alice: 74 Bob: 98 Carol: 62 .. The votes will be tabulated on Satuday, July 6. The winner will get 8 shares, second place will get 4 shares, third place 2 shares, and 1 for fourth. Voters who received generation devcoins will get 2/5 of a generation share, the first ten other voters who put a devcoin address in their signature or vote post will get half that from a coin send (which can be to a web wallet). Edit: The franchise has been opened to posters with an activity of at least 50, also voters are now paid. There's no place to vote on that devtome page you linked to, and I did log in and I did get shares the last 2 rounds. So you want us to look at all those designs and then vote on a thread here? So how many designs can we vote for, this is not clear to me? It looks like you're saying vote on your top 3 but that's not clear and some people are only voting for one design. Please clarify. Unthinkingbit, I think it's gonna create a lopsided effect to the votes and the best design may not win, especially if there's a few really close designs which will be separated by just a few votes. The reason is that some people don't have time, patience or desire to vote for more than one. So then an X number of designs will get so many essentially free votes which may make a big difference. There should be uniformity to All the votes so everyone should have to pick say 3 favorite designs and then assign their numbers to those designs. This way the winner will truly be the favorite design and not one that got lucky to be liked by the busiest voters or those with extra time on their hands. And it's not more than an extra 5 minutes to vote for 3 instead of 1. This will be the face of devcoin for years to come. It's a crucial event and the best coin should win by merit not luck. Thanks. Edit: One more thing. Some are coin logos and some are banners? I thought we were looking for a new coin face but at the same time there's some nice banners like by Jaisnlee which will definitely steal votes from some of the top coin designs. Some may think it is, and it may well be but it's not clear if you're just commenting. But I agree, most of the coins here are bitcoin knockoffs, barely anyone took any risk. Marticps took a bit of risk but I really wanted to see something new. And something which said: DIGITAL. Something that expresses the thought, feeling and instinct of digital money and none of the coins say that. I tried using an IC chip with the "golden city" look - in the wafer phase (as the backdrop) but my design was too busy and didn't even make the cut to be placed up for voting. Lol, I had good intentions and really tried to push for originality, and I worked so long on it since it was all hand-drawn, but I have zero artistic talent. You have to imagine this new coin, the winner, in what will soon be a sea of digital coins and most new buyers will have little to go on besides the image they see and then you have to ask: will this coin stand out above the rest, will it convey our message, who we are and the soul of digital cash? And if that's the test then all of these coins fail. I think there's enough talent here to get the right image but nobody took any real time or risk. I wish some of these obvious artistic guys had taken a chance. It's digital so there's no need to be practical, it can look any shape - it can be a truly limitless coin design for a crypto coin with truly limitless potential. So, choose carefully, reasoning on which one you think can better and easily be recognised by the public. I totally agree, this logo is a really big deal and I don't see the way this voting is being done to yield the best logo. And that's why I gave marti the highest score. His Atari look is the only logo that says something about digital and I think that's a must for some as new as digital currencies. Look at feathercoin, a pretty lame design but its simple and it has an IC chip as the backdrop. You immediately think digital. That's the same reason I used an IC chip for my coin. I'm really surprised cause most people here are computer guys yet none of that education or background is showing in their work.
