Title: Coinbase rates differ to GDAX rates...
Post by: tbch2325 on November 30, 2017, 11:17:57 AM
Hi guys,

Can someone please clear up this up as im confused as hell:

Coinbase are currently selling 1 bitcoin for 8260 euro but on gdax the lowest sell order is 8580 euro. I would expect the sell book on gdax to be close to what coinbases rates, but that doesnt seem to be the case?..

Thanks!

I myself have often asked my self this question since i use both coinbase and gdax often. I will use coinbase for things like instant buys for any coins like bitcoin and ethereum. Now the only time i use gdax is when i deposit cash and then initiate purchase of bitcoin since then you don't have to pay the fees that you normally have to pay coinbase.

Well, there is no unanimous price for Bitcoin all over the world. The pricing is different in each country as per demand and availability. While in US the price is @9700, in Zimbabwe it is over 18k and in India it is 11k. This applies in same way to various exchanges.

Even in Forex dude, rates of EUR/USD or USD/JPY or any pairs you pick is very different to hundreds of brokers online. Same as in crypto , there are thousand of traders online. Some of them are playing arbitrage. For example if BTC is cheaper in Coinbase. Then you can Buy a lot of Bitcoin in Coinbase, and withdraw it. Send it to GDAX to sell it in a MUCH HIGHER price.

Rinse and repeat.

One more thing prices varies on users, some has a very huge money. A huge buy can produce pump or much higher price in ones exchange.

Well are you sure about this . Like there can be delay in updating but according to you , it's a bug or a bug mistake. Well not all apps are updated as soon as the prices change . Coinbase would be a bit slower comparatively but it can be a bug as well.

I use Coinbase and GDAX and have noticed this in the past few days as well.

At one point I was looking to buy back some bitcoin on the GDAX exchange as I was watching the Coinbase chart on Trading View and it was showing a price of $100 lower than what the GDAX interface was showing. At first I thought it was a delay but after seeing it happen a few more times I came to the same conclusion that they must have different prices.

Usually they are both showing the same price but with these extreme and sudden price swings they can differ by a small amount at times.

I bought 0.07 bitcoins on gdax by yesterday, and i had no issues so far, maybe it is your problem.

But it is obviously that they are just trying to manipulate the market, why do you think that coinbase was shut down when the price dropped from $11500 to $9200? And then it was suddenly "fixed" when it was over $10400.

It is very shady, but yes, i dont know why you are complaining, because they are not very different rates, it is almost the same rate that Polo has.

Why dont you try to use cex.io? it is almost the same and you can buy using credit card.
