Lots of problems reported with 6990 series cards... 6990 = 800 Mhash/s and you want $999 for each... 5830 = 300 Mhash/s and you can get them for way cheaper...just bought one today retail. difficulty is almost 2 million....lmao... a fool and his money are soon parted. Hi I have no part in this but I need to weigh in because of the very poor etiquette being shown by some of the members. You THINK it's stupid, that's your opinion and it belongs in a thread you create or contribute to that is focused on the topic, not on a goods thread. You are attempting to "protect" a "n00b" as you put it that wants a 6990 for one reason or another and needs to pay to get it, that's not your problem and constructive feedback on the alternatives belongs in other topics. So far I don't find any of the posts in this thread rude though. A few things I do think people are overlooking: 1. This card will take a long time to pay off at the CURRENT exchange rate and difficulty, but if bitcoins jump up in value again, you can have it paid off much faster. (When I first started mining, I calculated that my gear would take about 80 to 90 days to pay off. In reality it took about 35. This could very well happen again, and I honestly expect it is likely as more and more businesses begin using bitcoins) 2. If you buy one of these cards, not only do you get bitcoins while it is mining, but you have one of the very best gaming cards on the market that you can get entertainment from any time you want. If you only buy bitcoins, it is harder to play a video game with them. Good luck with bitcoins and video games! If you have to pay for your own electricity, and most people do, then the 6990 is much more cost-effective over the long term.
