Title: So many altcoins. What are their REAL use?
Post by: Vicrypt on November 30, 2017, 11:33:40 PM
Really.

Why an average person on the street should buy a coin, say IOTA or Stratis? What he will do with it?

Do we all buy just to hold and in hope that someone else will pay more?

Where will this end?

What coins have real use case for end users?

Thank you.

Ethereum already has plenty of smart contracts running on the platform. You can organize ICOs and play dice games, for example (off the top of my head those are the 2 most used types of contracts). Coins like BCH, Dash, Monero and other currencies are already accepted in some merchants around the world, giving them use as well...

About others such as IOTA and Stratis that you mentioned, people are speculating on the price based on its potential and what they could achieve in the near future.

Right now we are all still pioneers, so we are simply betting on different technologies. If you buy IOTA, you aren't buying IOTA because you can buy coffee with it, but because you (supposedly) have researched the technology and think it's solid enough that it can develop into something that can reach consumer level of adoption.

The thing is, most people are idiots, so they are buying random altcoins thinking it's the next big pump because they didn't buy BTC when it was cheaper.

But the reality is that Bitcoin is still #1, gets the most development, and it's already used a lot in plenty of places, and it's also an existing digital gold. No other coin can claim this. We are going much higher with Bitcoin, the rest of altcoins are just trying to find a niche.

98% are just pump and dump coins. very few are really legit ones.

The only coin with a real use is Ethereum because you can create assets there which represent real tokenized goods. The question of the "real use" is valid also for Bitcoin...

I think most coins don't have a real use case beyond speculation and development down the road. You gotta look into the coin deeply and see whether or not they have an actual real use case. Take a look at how most ICOs are run today they come into crypto with a whitepaper and some marketing and that is it. Pretty trashy stuff if you ask me, although you can find some diamonds in the rough so don't dismiss the whole industry.

Most of them got zero usage, the dev just hoping get lucky and able to get rich in an instant, and there wont be any end for new coins, it will keep coming up, and we will be flooded by unused coins, the best way to limit thr new coins is to regulate it, but since crypto supposed to be decentralized so we will keep on see the new coins appearing

most altcoins dont have much real life use, most of them just want to earn money from investors to work with their roadmap, they dont care much about investors, so their coin are useless, just few of altcoins can have a great future, so we should do research about that coin carefully before investing in it.

Most don't have real use cases it's all speculation to see if someone will pay more.

There are a lot of alts that just want to be used as currency. I would stay away from those. The ones that solve a problem and want to create a currency within their product, much better.

We are looking in the long run. With Iota being developed, you can now even see that Iota work with Microsoft to get projects out into real world. By then, being an iota owner will help you to use their service.

If you want to have an immediate use case of your token, maybe you can conisder one of the next big ICO project: Appcoins
where it has 200mil active users and 4billion download of their working products. With over hundreds of stuffs working on the projects, it is going to be huge. Get their token so you can use it on their platform later on.

For the coin that has utility usage to the users, and that was just like santiment or tenx, santiment token can be used to open the platform and you can try to get a lot of the sensitive data and trading signal in the market.
tenx alreayd issued the visa card.
I suggest you about stratis rather than iota.

There are many reasons for the proliferation of coins, some are legitimate efforts to improve upon another crypto, some are original ideas trying to tap into a new market, some other are trying to overthrow another existing coin while some others are unfortunately a scam, among cryptocurrencies there are many that are useful but there is also a significant number that are coins that no one should buy, at the end it is up to the end user to decide why he needs to buy a particular coin.

I believe the primary reason for the proliferation of coins is greed, the desire to get rich quick with minimal effort and no different than what has happened in the US penny stock markets and more recently in social media unicorns. Fuel has been added to the fire by a lack of regulation, bubbly equity markets, low interest rates and slick promoters peddling power point dreams and white paper fantasies. I think crypto investors are best served with the majority of their capital allocated in BTC, ETH, LTC, XMR and DASH. I joined a dev team for a small coin because I wanted to learn the inner workings of what happens in an alt coin, why do coins fail and why do coins succeed? Each little coin is a small business with a P/L stream and a large majority are abandoned. A coin lives or dies based on the size of the community (hence Dogecoin lives on), conviction level of the dev team, the amount of funding they have (Dash has a bullt-in funding mechanism) and their ability to build legitimate use cases.

If you going to hold substantial stakes in alt coins its best sell them off when they experience rallies, and treat them as trading assets. I made the mistake of holding onto 808 and Condensate for too long.

Different alt coins have different uses...

Some solve serious problems.  Others attempt to replicate other coin's solution but with better branding and management.  A lot are scams.

So you can't just as what their real use is as a whole.  You have to take it on a case by case basis.

I don't think more than a small handful of stubborn people here would think something like Eth has no real use..  I mean... smart contracts..  come on.

Many altcoins today are an alternative to overcome the limited amount of bitcoin. And as an alternative for those who want to invest but limited money. Because many want the suit made by bitcoin.

I really do not know much but I believe bitcoin is made to be either a currency or a store of value or even both. I think other altcoins do not really offer that much and is just riding the tide of the new wave which is cryptocurrencies bought about by bitcoin.

Real use of 99.9 percent of tokens - no! These are just pacifiers that are manipulated for earnings.

Only a small part of the projects develop the necessary products and services

I'm sorry, sir. I think you don't really understand about the cryptocurrency. I will tell you that each of these tokens has different functions and uses depending on the purpose of their project. All of that depends on it's implementation. Example : If you interested on project like insurance you may be take a look on PolicyPal Network and you can be investor on that too, So you must be loyal on it until them reach their goal and you will see the price of their token will rise very high.

Each coin or token has a specific problem it aims to solve.

Stellar is an open-source, decentralized protocol for digital currency to fiat currency transfers which allows cross-border transactions between any pair of currencies. - Wikipedia

We offer simple and affordable end-to-end solutions for development, testing and deployment of native C# blockchain applications on the .Net framework. - https://stratisplatform.com

What is IOTA? A permissionless distributed ledger for a new economy - https://www.iota.org

You can go on and on to find what each coin is for.

Seeing that way too and it's unjust to think that they really don't have any plans to push through their product. Once they're done in getting your money, you'll notice that they getting inactive in telegram and in an instance the whole team disappear.

At first, all good words will be heard but later on broken words will be their rant.

While some token stays long just because of its influencial team yet nothing is rational and variable in their product.

There are so many altcoins that is true, but only about 100 of them can offer something revolutionary. I mean real use of the blockchain technology.
For example IOTA is next big think, everything will be soon on the internet - like fridge and with IOTA you will be able to communicate between the devices.

It depends...but I am heavily invested in a global loyalty reward system. It has real world use case and replaces the traditional loyalty reward system. You can gain that token by purchasing products or services from it's partner merchants. It's Loyalcoin by the way, and I believe it will one day see the moon.

So many of the altcoins that you are seeing now do not have any real use and that is why they can die out at any point, the only thing that is keeping most of them afloat is the fact that traders are using them for their trading activities. Once they are no longer being used to trade then they are just going to die out of the market.

We all just hold and have the hope of one day we'll going to make huge profits.

As far as I know, the altcoin that can be used in real life is Pundi X, you can buy coffee or food using NPXS tokens in cafes that have partnered with Pundi X. But actually not only that, even you can buy data, merchandise, pay incentives, and pay exchange listing fees using other altcoins. But this is not known to many people because of the lack of marketing and introduction to the cryptocurrency community

What coins have real use case for end users?
It is bitcoin and ethereum.

And if you see another altcoin that is being created and tells that they will have a real use case, do you think we are going to believe them quickly? unless a corporation like facebook, twitter will create their own token then there will be a real use for those coins. But most of them no need to create one, we already have bitcoin.

Basically, ICO's introduce their altcoin in order to make their business go smooth as the investors have the tokens, they have the full capability to control it and sell it at their own risk and to be profitable in it or dump it.

If in the future, cryptocurrency is accepted by the government, I think it will be popular and be used by more people in the world.

Where will this end?

What coins have real use case for end users?

Thank you.
Think that for coin, can be will in the future: pay for services, buy electronics, food, and so on. I think in the distant future, paper money will disappear, will cryptocurrency.

I am afraid that a lot of altcoins have no future, even though they could have real use, but blockchain cant replace everything.
Most likely, what we are now seeing in the market and there is an end for most altcoins, after such corrections, most of them will disappear.
Most of new platform don't know about what is the blockchain and how to use it and that should become the main reason why a lot of percentage of the existing platform right now will e disappearing in the future. They can't understand about what has been doing by them.

If you do a little research ibto the altcoins you can better understand what they are used for. Some are just a simple tool for exchanging value, others are being used as a platform to launch other projects that have not yet matured enough to run on their own blockchain, and there is another type of altcoin no emerging, one that is being used to support a real world project application as a transactional database.

It depends on users perspective. For example, I wanted to use crypto to gift someone anonymously, now I can do it with some of them like Monero. It was a plain use case to me, isn't it? I wanted to use crypto to shop on amazon, I can do it on site like purse.io, it's a great use case, isn't it? So there are many projects that are useful, we have to find it.

The current number of altcoins shows how excited the cryptocurrency market is. Having an altcoin at this time is not intended to expect the price to rise but sometimes it can be used to buy something, hoping for a quarterly or monthly commission distribution.

Many people write that most altcoins are used for speculation. But take examples of crypto-enthusiasts, none of them thought about bitcoin in 20K, and no one thought about platforms and smart contracts. What will be tomorrow? The financial banking system is already very concerned about such a strong competitor.

Project tokens can have different purposes. For example, tokens can serve as a reward for mining or maintaining the network, and since the number of coins is limited, their value increases over time. Also, tokens can be accepted as payment in the project application for any services or additional features, all this makes them valuable.

Buy low sell high to get maximum btc reward

At old good time  during btc first pump any new alts what have appear was  new bitcoin

Mostly they had some use case same like current ico
And same like current ico all of them was scams just much cheaper than ico tokens

What are their real use? I guess trading. Trading such altcoins provide use for them on the market. Rather than just letting it on the market without practical purpose. We should utilize even those altcoins that are not in the top 100 if we want to let them stay on the market.

Lots of coins and tokens that don't have a clear purpose, they only make and sell in the market so it's easy to drop, and unfortunately most coins don't have real products so investors are afraid to invest in the long term.

Most of them are nothing, either they just a money grabber used by the so-called "project developer" and then after you buy the coin, the project will just disappear and they will make kinda "fail project announcement" so they can get away with it. Or, those coin are just a pump and dump coin, so the early investor and buyer can get much profit. Investing in altcoin is very risky so you better do a deep research before you put your money into any altcoins.

the real usefulness of altcoin indeed has not seen clearly. but it is also certainly also because of the lack of facilities that still haven't been able to fully complete so that altcoin cannot be applied to real functions. only a handful of places to receive crypto and when this began expanding then even altcoin will be starting to get the effect of the increase in price is high enough.

we buy not only to hold back but to sell it again but to sell it we need the right time and to wait for that time we must hold it first

yes, the main hope of holding certainly wants to be bought at a higher price so that it gets a profit. but the price here is updated by the market so the value can change at any time. must be patient if you want to sell at a price higher than the purchase price.

We all know that token is simply created for the purpose of using it on a project's ecosystem with the benefit of trading it on various exchanges and such token can be created on the various blockchain, whereas coins are created within its own blockchain and have their own wallets. So in my view, yes there are far too many tokens but a very few coins in the market. Most of those shit tokens are useless apart from pump & dump purpose because we hardly see any ICO project successfully implement their vision into work even after successfully completing their crowdsale and that kills their token, platform's potential to be taken seriously by crypto world.

You're right. In fact, the cryptocurrency industry is very young, and there are very few projects that have a work product that brings some benefit to society. Most people use crypto-currencies, only as an investment and profit, but as we see the situation has changed and investing in new projects does not make a profit. Many altcoins are worthless. The altcoin has a token and a separate coin. They are different. Tokens are usually based on coins issued by Ethereum. When the technology is successful, they will change to their own coins. You can observe the HSR.

Really.

Why an average person on the street should buy a coin, say IOTA or Stratis? What he will do with it?

Do we all buy just to hold and in hope that someone else will pay more?

Where will this end?

What coins have real use case for end users?

Thank you.

There are many uses of altcoins to elaborate one by one. Other altcoins has the same usage and the only difference is some upgrades of the later. What's important is they revolutionize the method of investing instead of using the traditional way of buying shares in a Fiat currency way.

Perhaps people do not need cryptocurrencies because the latter do not have a large range of use in everyday life at the moment. As soon as the situation changes, then immediately there will be a need for crypto.

There are projects which have use case and those projects will succeed in the future.
Also there are projects which are coming from real economy and tokenizing their well established businesses.
This will lead us to mass usage of blockchain technology.

Their real use case  isn't that necessary. To my mind most of altcoins need to be revaluated. Well, some of them should be abandoned, because their product isn't on demand. To my mind the best real use is for privacy coins and blockchain altcoins
