Title: 1st Round Voting for PPC Logo Contest - Vote for your 6 Favorite Designers
Post by: Sentinelrv on July 04, 2013, 01:34:49 AM
The main voting is now over and the votes have been counted and posted further into this thread. It seems we're going to go into overtime though. Three designers are competing at 4 votes each for slots 5 and 6...

4 - PhatCowDesigns
4 - Anamulmasum
4 - Akaki

Here is what we're going to do. You'll all have a second chance to vote here. Out of the three names listed above, you can only vote for two of them, since I only have two more slots to fill. I will give you guys until sometime tonight to vote. If there are no more votes, I'll decide it myself.

------------------------------

The qualifying round is now over in the Peercoin logo design contest. Before we can move to the final round, we'll need to select six designers to move on in the contest. Please read the following voting restrictions before posting in this thread. Voting will last about 2-3 days depending upon participation, so vote now and get it out of the way.

Click Here to View Contest Entries (https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/logo-needed-peercoin-revolutionary-cryptocurrency-designed-rival-bitcoin-228459)

Voting Restrictions:
- You must have joined Bitcointalk at least one week ago.
- You must have at least 20 posts.

A Note on the Logo's Theme: Before anyone complains about the logos that were submitted in the contest, we all agreed upon a set of rules before starting this. For the theme of the logo, we honored what Sunny King (Developer of PPC) wanted to see. Sunny King wanted the theme to be Gold + eco-friendly. Below is rule #4 in the contest. It explains what we were looking for in the logo...

"Rule #4: Gold + eco-friendly. That sums up what we're looking for. The design needs to convey somehow that Peercoin is environmentally friendly. The primary color also needs to be gold. Silver and bronze coin designs will not be accepted. Other colors can be mixed into the design, but the coin must primarily be gold. So to be clear, either the coin needs to be all gold, or primarily gold with some other colors mixed in and it also needs to convey eco-friendliness."

Copy & Paste Voting Format:

Select up to six designers to move onto the final round:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
(Note: You can vote for less than six if you want to.)

What are the submission numbers of your favorite designs so far?
1.
2.
3.
(Note: Add more if you want. Not counted in voting. Only a guage of interest.)

Please add any comments, feedback or suggestions here:

I'll start this off...

Select up to six designers to move onto the final round:
1. Lightning
2. Gamekyuubi

What are the submission numbers of your favorite designs so far?
1. #109 (https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/logo-needed-peercoin-revolutionary-cryptocurrency-designed-rival-bitcoin-228459/entries/109)
2. #91 (https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/logo-needed-peercoin-revolutionary-cryptocurrency-designed-rival-bitcoin-228459/entries/91)
3. #48 (https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/logo-needed-peercoin-revolutionary-cryptocurrency-designed-rival-bitcoin-228459/entries/48)

Please add any comments, feedback or suggestions here:

I think #109 is a winner. It might be a little too simple right now, but that can be fixed in the final round when doing revisions. #48 used to be my favorite design, but I think #109 surpasses it. Plus, Sunny King doesn't care for #48, so I'm going to honor that and go with something else.

A lot of these look great at 100% zoom. I think there's something to be said for designs that retain quality no matter how far zoomed in/out they are (i.e. small icon on things like coinchoose). Great designs all around.

Your doing it wrong, it's easy for someone to get dozens of accounts that are older with many posts on it. Hence the same person could give themself the win.

What would you suggest we do then? This is not the most important vote right now, but the final vote for the design will have to be done right. What can we do to ensure this process isn't gamed?

I don't think this will be a problem. Just don't let newbie accounts (say, younger than 1 month) contribute to voting. No designer is going to risk/bother bribing members of bitcointalk.org.

I actually like the theme proposed by iconsymbolic designer (https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/logo-needed-peercoin-revolutionary-cryptocurrency-designed-rival-bitcoin-228459/designers/1273136), but sadly it's too much of a deviation from established norm to be accepted by the community (or is it?). He/she even went as far as creating a simple webpage mock-up to show how the simple design can be integrated into webpage. Think Windows 8 Metro design and the iOS 7 design - it's where the industry is headed.

My top designer choices are therefore:

1. Lightning
2. iconsymbolic
3. maxwell
4. sco 99
5. lesdeane
6. DesignOSS

These look like they've got potential:

1. #47 (https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/logo-needed-peercoin-revolutionary-cryptocurrency-designed-rival-bitcoin-228459/entries/47)
2. #80 (https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/logo-needed-peercoin-revolutionary-cryptocurrency-designed-rival-bitcoin-228459/entries/80)
3. #71 (https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/logo-needed-peercoin-revolutionary-cryptocurrency-designed-rival-bitcoin-228459/entries/71)

(focusing on the shape rather than color)

BONUS: I think the following entry really captures the spirit of "PeePeeCoin": #152 (https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/logo-needed-peercoin-revolutionary-cryptocurrency-designed-rival-bitcoin-228459/entries/152).

2. Wolf Rainer
3. Art Zone

A. #109 or #48
B. # 148

I think 109 or 48 are the best. Next best is 148. 147 is okay too.
The rest look terrible to me.

1st round voting has now been completed. The clear favorite among most people is the designer Lightning with #109, followed by lesdeane with #96 and Gamekyuubi...

1st Round Designer Votes:
15 - Lightning
9 - lesdeane
7 - Gamekyuubi
6 - maxwell
4 - PhatCowDesigns
4 - Akaki

1st Round Design Votes:
7 - #109
5 - #96
4 - #35
3 - #48

We have now entered the final round, which will last three days. The six selected designers can now submit new or updated designs. We need to help them make their revisions. After these three days are up though, there will be no more design time, so this is it. We need to use this time wisely. If you have suggestions, please post them now either on the main contest page or on the new feedback thread at ppcointalk...

Think Windows 8 Metro design and the iOS 7 design - it's where the industry is headed.

...

Cool stuff, especially this symbol https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/logo-needed-peercoin-revolutionary-cryptocurrency-designed-rival-bitcoin-228459/entries/29

Rest of the yellow shiny stuff, with little leaf, we see in other designs, is just not cutting it. Why? This stuff ain't scaling! It is OK at high resz but that is all. Small scale or b&w and most of those shiny things will fall apart. You have to consider this, when you actually vote.
