Title: A tool to send BitCoins to an email address...? Post by: mystery2048 on July 01, 2011, 09:40:56 AM Has anyone thought of this? I remember, one thing that made the social network sites, especailly facebook so popular is that if your friends try and invite you and your not on it, you get bombarded with emails saying stuff like "Your friend suchandsuch is trying to contact you, do you want to create an account today to contact them back?"... What if we had an escrow service, that allowed sending BitCoins direct to email address, so that people receive an email such as "Your friend suchandsuch is trying to send you X amount of BTC, do you want to create a wallet to download them now?" ... Of course theres the problem of trust in the service, but for small transactions, it seems feasible and will spark interest in BitCoins... What do people think?
EDIT: Also, on second thought, I was thinking what would this be useful for... My initial thoughts would be giving to friends, getting the word out on BitCoins, sending gifts for birthdays/weddings to people you only know their email addres, donations to charities or organisations... It probably wouldnt be useful for trying to trade with say Amazon.com, but if they got enough emails spamming them about BitCoin, perhaps they will stand up and take notice... I say, if everyone donates 0.001 BTC to amazon, we could start a protest to get them to accept them... They would be foolish to just ignore it... Basically, you would have to export an address with its private key. You can then send this to someone else who would need to import that information to claim the coins. Important note: this will give the coins to _everybody_ who gets his hands on the email. It's like sending cash via mail. Also I'm not sure how the system will deal with having the same addres+key twice (if the sender does not delete the address+key), aka double spending. But I guess it will fix itself somehow. |
