My friends are flying to Indonesia in a couple of weeks. When I found out the details of acquiring them, I did not want to fly there in the near future. First they were advised to get vaccinated against hepatitis, there probably an outbreak of this disease. And they warned about potential terrorist attacks. I do not think that tur.agentstvo will just say such things.

I have never been to Indonesia, but my friends have been to Bali. They have told me that it is a very beautiful place with lots of friendly people. The only thing which bothers me about Indonesia is the rise of radical Islam. During the past 2 decades, there have been many incidents there, such as the 1998 anti-Chinese riots and the 2002 Bali bombings.

Indonesia is a big country with lots of beautiful nature. In Indonesia there are some natural panorama which is included as one of the best in the world. If all can be managed properly, Indonesia can become a tourist center of the world. The problem in Indonesia is the lack of honest people. It must be painful for Indonesians, but I know Indonesia a lot because I'm Indonesian. Honest people hard to find especially in government, most of them are corrupt, I really hate corruptors. Currently there are people who have important positions that are exposed to major corruption cases, and he is very difficult to catch. Laws in Indonesia are still not firm for rich people.

Indonesia, a Southeast Asian nation made up of thousands of volcanic islands, is home to hundreds of ethnic groups speaking many different languages. It’s known for beaches, volcanoes, Komodo dragons and jungles sheltering elephants, orangutans and tigers. On the island of Java lies Indonesia's vibrant, sprawling capital, Jakarta, and the city of Yogyakarta, known for gamelan music and traditional puppetry.

A lot of countries around the world executes drug dealers and Indonesia is not the only one. Even developed nations such as Singapore and Qatar executes drug traffickers. And they have solid reason to give such harsh punishment for drug dealers. I will tell you the simple solution. Please refrain from trafficking drugs, at least when you are visiting these countries. Fair enough?

Indonesia is wonderful Indonesia for me! I really enjoy the colorful culture and tradition of Indonesia and the diversity and unity (Bhinneka Tunggal Ika) inside the country. Traditional dances, music, even magical and martial arts and especially the food ways were enough to attract me to this beautiful country. I have been living here for a couple of months but have never had any adaptation problem due to the hospitality of Indonesian people. But I cannot say I have seen everything here as it may take years to only know the unique communities and cultures all across the world.
Shortly, it has a rich and historical culture and traditon still reflected by today's generation.

I'd been married to an Indonesian woman, from which we've two girls.
For the country itself is as beautiful as any tropical place you can think about, however the human side is extremely poor. Religion being its biggest stone on the shoe, with regions you surely wouldn't want to go, specially those more Islamic, then the endemic corruption, making it hard to move the country forward.
Nevertheless is a country to look up to in terms of investment with a huge market, be it internal or tourism. Still for risk assessment it must be taken as medium-high, and being so different from region to region you can't consider the country as whole.

new haven for radical muslims and also being a new training camp for terrorists and their government has trouble stopping them

Indonesia used to be a quite moderate society. But during the 1990s, some of the politicians started taking help from the radical groups, which introduced this problem for the first time in that country. This resulted in several terrorist groups forming inside Indonesia and these groups were responsible for crimes such as the anti-Chinese riots and Bali bombings.

Indonesia, one of the world's largest biological and non-living resources.
In general, natural resources by nature can be classified as renewable and non-renewable natural resources. renewable sDA is a natural resource that can continue to exist as long as its use is not over-exploited. however irreparable natural resources are limited natural resources because their use is faster than the process of formation and whenused continuously will be exhausted.Indonesia is a vast country. Thus, the tribes and cultures are diverse. The diversity of tribes and cultures resulted in various historical heritages in Indonesia. Historical heritage objects in Indonesia include:
- Arca
- the castle
-temple
- the building
-tomb
-monument
-museum
-book
-worship place
-inscription

As an Indonesian, i personally like the various forms of cultural heritage (physical and intangible such as tradition, artistic expressions, etc) that this country has. I like Batik shirts, Javanese and Balinese architecture, Minang cuisine, paintings, etc. Certainly they’re worth preserving as Indonesia modernizes along the way. One thing that i’m rather disappointed is the fact that Jakarta’ old town is not really well maintained. There are lots of old colonial buildings which have been left to rot for years already. I hope it’ll change soon though, as the old town area of Jakarta is the only place which may attract tourists the most.

Other than that, i do think that we need to put more attention to preserve our culture. As a developing economy, we may think that traditional culture doesn’t have a place in a modern society. But i think that’s a wrong mindset. I’d love to have my future house to be built in traditional Balinese architectural style with a modern interior.

I am not even talking about the mentally disturbed guys. Defecating in the open has become a norm here. And they will sit by the side of the road and do whatever they want, at the same time watching and commenting at the passerby. The most ironic thing is that most of these people do have toilets in their homes. But they don't want to use them. I just hope that things are much better in Indonesia.

India is overcrowded, so over 1,3 bln people some oddities may surface and even become "norm".

@zenyfomax1,
They had that issue in the past, now it's a 70€ fine. Still wasn't that "poop everywhere" situation.
The major oddity I found at France is the way they use public restrooms; they simply go to the one that's vacant, regardless of the gender.

Yes, they just go to the one that's vacant. So don't get surprised to see a guy coming out of women's or a girl coming out of men's.
This seams more normal outside Paris.

I just hope that things are much better in Indonesia.

wew, that's disgusting really. not to mention disastrous for health. where are the police? i believe no such thing is happening in indonesia. people in the villages prefer defecating in the riverside instead of on the streets.

despite the restrooms being clearly marked for gents & ladies?

Yes, they just go to the one that's vacant. So don't get surprised to see a guy coming out of women's or a girl coming out of men's.
This seams more normal outside Paris.
In a way they've a point, usually you see a huge queue at women's restroom and none at men's, this way they just get things going more gender equally.

this happens occasionally here too, but what i'm observing is that more often men will go to women's restroom while women much less likely.

We don't even need to apply for a visa. As far as I know, there is a visa-on-arrival facility available for the Indian nationals.

fyi, since 2015, citizens of only a handful countries require visa to enter indonesia. indonesia has increased visa-free list from 45 to 169 countries [1]. certain "problematic" countries still require visa, e.g. nigeria, israel, afghanistan...

so far we managed to not have the equivalent of trump in power, is that good enough? :p

on a more serious note, the suharto regime (of 32 years) is pretty bad, but you can still find leaders of other countries that are an order of magnitude worse.

Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world, which has a diversity of tribes, cultures, customs, and languages. Indonesia has many islands that have extraordinary beauty in them.

Indonesia is headed by the head of state ie President. The language used by Indonesia is the national language which is the unifying country of Indonesia. Most of the Indonesian population embraced Islam, and some embraced Catholicism, Protestantism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Confucianism (khonghucu).

Indonesian national anthem is Indonesia Raya. Bendera Indonesia red and white, which means red symbolizes courage, white symbolizes holiness. The symbol of the Indonesian state is Garuda Pancasila with the motto of Bhineka Tunggal Ika, meaning "diverse but one".

Therefore I am happy to be born as a nation of Indonesia "Damn I Love Indonesia"

"religious freedom" in indonesia

indonesia has this so-called "religious freedom" where the citizen is free to subscribe to any religion she wants, as long as the religion is among the five sanctioned ones: islam, catholicism, christianity, buddhism, hinduism, and confucianism. oh but if you practice some sort of mysticism, you are also allowed and your religion will be listed as "aliran kepercayaan".

the religion is mentioned in the national ID (and in various fill-out forms companies/organizations will freely ask about your religion even though it's irrelevant, for example if you're opening a bank account, the bank will among others ask about your religion even though it does not have anything to do with your transaction style or risk). huge potential for discrimination.

and what if you want to subscribe to a religion other than the abovementioned ones? sometimes you can if the religion is somewhat related to the sanctioned ones, for example jehovah's witnesses used to be outlawed for being a "false cult", but nowadays it's allowed and JV are opening their churches all over indonesia. other religions might not have similar luck.

and what if you don't want to subscribe to any religion? you can't. you have to choose one, at least to put in your ID card. and if you publicly say that you are an atheist, you will be regarded as a bad and dangerous person. sometimes religious followers will even attack you, the government will put you in jail, or worse.

so, that's religious freedom in indonesia.

Nothing special about the economy. It is true that the GDP is around 1 trillion USD. But Singapore (which is having a population of around 2% of that of Indonesia) is having a GDP of $300 billion. So in terms of per capita GDP, Indonesia is ranked much lower when compared to its neighbors.

although Singapore itself is such a tiny country that absolute numbers wise I'd be extremely surprised if there were more Indians living there vs. Indonesia. Percentage wise maybe!

Well, it is true. Around 9% of the Singaporean population is of Indian origin, which amounts to approx. 350,000. On the other hand, there are around 120,000 people of Indian origin in Indonesia. (Please don't confuse Indonesian Hindus with Indians, as all of them are natives and not Indian immigrants).

~US$1tn in GDP growing at ~5% and accounting for half of Southeast Asia's digital economy, it's absolutely one of the most attractive places for investments, entrepreneurship and living

true that. also don't forget the population: ~240 million, by far the largest in south east asia (+ australia + oceania), good demographics (large percentage in productive age range, demographic bonus in ~2025), improving education level, skills, and english proficiency.

you probably meant indonesian right? there are not that many indians living in indonesia (compared to, say, singapore).

Indonesia was under the Dutch colonial rule and there was no need for importing laborers from elsewhere. Even then, you can find small Tamil minorities in cities such as Medan and Jakarta.

which makes me wonder, why aren't there more indian people in indonesia? at least in bali...

What do you think about indonesia?
Have you ever been to indonesia?

I just want to know your opinion.

I have never been there, and I think is really bad the minimum wage on that country being really low, great place to visit as a turist.

indonesia's minimum wage is not so bad, compared to its neighboring countries. believe it or not, malaysia's minimum wage (1000 MYR) is actually lower than jakarta's now.

Nothing special about the economy. It is true that the GDP is around 1 trillion USD. But Singapore (which is having a population of around 2% of that of Indonesia) is having a GDP of $300 billion. So in terms of per capita GDP, Indonesia is ranked much lower when compared to its neighbors.

singapore has a miniscule 1.9% gdp growth rate though.

jakarta is a more apple-to-apple comparison to singapore though as they are both city-sized. GDP of jakarta is estimated to be around $321 billion, so still larger than singapore :p

I'm an Indonesian, exactly on the island of Java. Here I will give a little info about indonesia.Indonesia is the largest archipelago country in the world which consists of 17,504 islands, Indonesia is also called Nusantara. Here there are a variety of different cultures that exist from Sabang to Merauke.Indonesia has many tourist attractions that you must visit, such as in Yogyakarta, Bali, Lombok, East Nusa Tenggara, etc. Here are two seasons namely dry and rain season.  Now this, in Indonesia is going to enter the dry season. The cost of living in Indonesia is relatively cheap, the food here is also diverse and each region has its own characteristics.

Yes... it is ethnically rich (I would rather use the word "diverse"). There are more than 600 languages spoken in that country (250 of that in Iriyan Jaya), and you can imagine the richness of cultural diversity there.

that's your right to visit or not visit whatever place you want. funny though how you compare a country (indonesia) with a city (sydney). why not compare jakarta vs sydney or indonesia vs australia?

btw, from my last visit there, sydney is not among my favorite city even compared to other australian cities. lots of beggars or people being wasted on the streets. and it's a bit dirty. melbourne is much nicer.
