Title: Overclocking Sapphire 5830
Post by: afarzin on July 02, 2011, 03:57:59 AM
I just setup my system with two (soon to be three) Sapphire 5830s but the overclocking tool doesn't let me go past 900MHz core and 1200MHz memory. How do people manage to get past these frequencies?

Load up windows on the system (if it is not already).

Download and install RBE (http://www.techpowerup.com/rbe/).

Edit the BIOS through RBE and flash the BIOS of the card using winatiflash (it is all explained on the RBE FAQ page (http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/154)).

You simply need to change the high/red level settings on one of the gpu core clocks to exactly what you want it to be while mining. I recomment 925core/300mem for good stability.

Since you have a Sapphire card, Trixx is worth looking into as well.

I  got four 5830s and I let them run with 900/500. I get ~1050 Mhash/s and it runs smooth.

Also tried ATI Tray Tool to see what is possible, 920 won't get you 100 Mhash/s more... just a waste of energy IMO.

Get MSI Afterburner and stop playing with the BIOS - it's totally fine with 900 - especially in the hot days! (I have constantly 85°C with my extra fan).

Hi,
I've overclocked my MSI 5830 to 875MHz. Actually everything works fine, no problems with windows and the temperature's cool.
But when I'm doing the aritifac scan of the atitool I get quite a lot of errors. Can I ignore that or wil this cause problems?

Um, yea, you can overclock in Ubuntu without flashing using the ATI Catalyst Drivers 11.6.
