Title: Electrum not importing private key (exported from Multibit Classic wallet)
Post by: Pieter... on December 07, 2017, 01:17:51 PM
Hi,

I have the following issue: when buying BTC 4 year ago I used Multibit to store my wallet offline. Since Multibit is no longer supported, I exported the private key, which I want to load in Electrum.
I followed this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaijbTcxsv8
However, when pasting the key (1m57s in the video), the "next" button stays disabled.

Does anyone have an idea why and what I can do to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Pieter

PS: I also tried transferring the BTC using Multibit Classic 0.5.19, but the transaction remains "Unconfirmed" after 24 hours, even though the fee is 1%.

In Electrum 3.0 the way to import private keys has been changed, so now importing private keys through that method mentioned in the video may not work.

Now inorder to import, you'll need to select the 'Import Bitcoin address or private keys' option in the initial Install wizard screen like below and it'll allow you to paste your private key and the next button would no longer be disabled.

It is also recommended that you send your funds later after the import to a new electrum wallet with 'Seed' to ensure that you can later restore your wallet by just that single seed.

Now i want from my old Multibit Classic wallet vs 0518 export the private keys in to the new Electrum wallet 302.

Unfurthunalty there is no information or tutorial on youtube, at least not about importing the keys in Electrum 302.

Please who now's more or can help and give instruction

If using Electrum v2.9.3 use the following method:
File -> New\Restore -> Standard Wallet -> Use public or private keys -> Copy/Paste your MBC private keys, one per line

If using Electrum v3.0.2 use the following method:
File -> New\Restore -> Import Bitcoin addresses or private keys -> Copy/Paste your MBC private keys, one per line
