Title: What size of Air Duct will fit in the Avalon 741 black shroud fan?
Post by: subie on December 10, 2017, 03:27:44 AM
Hi all,

Has anyone tried adding an aluminum air duct thing on the Avalon 741 black shroud fan? What size of Air Duct did you use?

Thank all

I have not measured, but it's closer to 4" than 6" I can tell you.

Avalons are not that offensive in terms of noise - their fans don't cause the weird earsplitting resonance of the ant fans.  So if you're worried about noise it should not be a big deal compared to ants.  And free heat for the winter might be a good thing, unless you're in Saudi or something

If you do use some of that ducting make sure you oversize it; if it's a long run you might need an inline fan. The ducting creates a restriction that will force your fan to work harder. The longer the run the higher the restriction, and it only gets worse with every bend.

Depending on your plans this thread has some ideas.

another option is this

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Master-Flow-12-in-x-25-ft-Insulated-Flexible-Duct-R6-Silver-Jacket-F6IFD12X300/100182573?keyword=12+inch+flex+duct

place entire unit in it  cut to around 6 feet  you can do 4  pieces

@cableiso

Thank you for the size, we don't have winter here, adding an air duct would help keep the Avalon cool, I think.

@Steamtyme

Thank you for the link, that is what i like to do, i learned you need to add a fan for that long run setup, can I ask what will happen if you don't add a fan? I know that hot air rises so i guess the air would just move up by itself.

Thank you philipma1957, I would be using your option here, plus add your sound proof tunnel to the mix.
