Title: WANTED: DEVELOPERS to develop a new coin along similar lines as Primecoin
Post by: FrictionlessCoin on July 18, 2013, 11:25:20 AM
Hello,

I have an idea for a new kind of crypto-coin that has a proof of work that has real practical purposes.

Bitcoin and Litecoin have PoW that really has no real practical value.  That is, finding a nounce value that will create a hash with a certain number of zeros.

Primecoin has a PoW that may not have any practical value, but at least it is intellectually interesting as to what it discovers.

I have an idea for a coin that does have an algorithm that has value.

I hope to release the coin in 1-2 weeks time.

Anyway,  I am a skilled developer, however I would like to collaborate with 2 additional developers to help me refine my implementation.

Please pm me if you are interested.  I would like to work with someone with C,C++,Java or Python skills.

Thanks in advance.

How about create a P2P (decentralized) cloud. which can be used to store data or computation.
This cloud can be used to host websites, host personal files, do distributed computation. It has a bitcoin-like block-chain to store the payments/transactions. Something similar to Namecoin but more dedicated.
I think it will be much useful.

Interesting. Lets see if it is something unique or a copy paste.

You know you may be in on to something here.   Storing all the data required by the computation in the blockchain may be problematic for many classes.  So, the block chain may be able to point to a url to retrieve the computation required for the block.

There is this neat decentralized data storage software called Bittorrent Sync:

Lemme guess...it's going to do protein folding as PoW?

the block chain may be able to point to a url to retrieve the computation required for the block.
Once the URL target changes, the block can no longer be validated.

That would be CompositeCoin....and it can be merge mined actually.  ;)

For a compuational to be valuable, there needs to be a means for the consumer of a computation to be able to submit data for computation.

tax coin. processes blocks of tax returns for the irs. the first pool/miner to process a block of returns is rewarded with 25 coins for the block. half of the IRS budget is immediately cut in half.

 :D

On a more serious note, I think you could probably launch a coin that finds amicable pairs (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/AmicablePair.html) of large numbers.

Protein folding would be interesting.

Why don't you just tell us what PoW you have in mind? Being secretive is dumb.
