Title: What we still don't have
Post by: wobber on January 04, 2011, 08:33:59 AM
The most basic service is not present in our community: Food.

We have lots of other things, sex toys, casinos but we lack food suppliers. If we want a selfsustainable community we must have raw food and even cooked food providers.

But food alters quickly and it's not a good idea to transport it across long distances. So, we must establish a network of food dealers across the whole world. Because I've learned that someday we won't be able to buy or sell without the...

Yes, I was present when the actual trad took place, on IRC (and this forum) but the guy payed th pizza for the "customer". Anyway it was the first food trade and among the first trades in the world.

I'm speaking of "making" food.

And OFFTOPIC: how did you found that website? I can't find many of them in the TRADE list.

I shall bake this (http://www.food.com/recipe/dutch-apple-pie-omas-appeltaart-128732/photo?aid=233348) for 250 BTC.
It will feature delicious vanilla from madagascar.
An extra 20 BTC for home-made whipped cream.

The cake is to be ordered a day in advance and will be delivered any place downtown Paris or close western suburb.

My wife and I baked at an artisan french bakery to get ourselves through college. She did the bread, I made pastries and cooked a mean breakfast. If any of you are ever in Portland, I can cook you a damn fine for a reasonable BTC price!

Damn near anything is on the menu; but I make hollandaise by hand, biscuits and gravy to die for, Coq au Vin, etc. etc. etc.

I doubt the offer will ever be taken up, but there ya go.

wow. this gets traction.

On the cooking / food offers, perhaps one could develop a map where each of us can enter the location and the food offers..

Vinnie, perhaps you have guests in Poland earlier than you think..

A map+menu sounds like a fine idea! We also have an organic garden!

Are you offering to rent out any of your organic gardening space?  That would make a perfect first listing for Portland on the Where's Bitcoin map! http://www.bitcoinmap.com

pizza4btc is under construction. If anyone feels like moving it along come to #pizza4btc on irc. You can add your local pizza establishment and people will be able to order pizza for you .

Its the worlds first geopizzas lol.

Renting space sounds far better, to me. I'll rent it out cheap, too, because we're not using all of our space.

I think I'll have to go with this approach instead of cooking/baking people food. I already have a full time job!

Yup, I started that.  Thanks!

The map is freeform..., so a marker can be added with whatever content (and link) you wish to add.   The marker can be added using the edit mode: http://www.umapper.com/maps/edit/id/84618/
or by just entering data using the form located below the map: http://www.bitcoinmap.com

The most basic service is not present in our community: Food.

I'm working on an arrangement with a local Diner's Club type debit card provider in Louisville, Ky.

www.gregscard.com

I'd be willing to bet that most cities have something comparable to target.

I see where the confusion is coming from. S3052 mis read me or mis typed "Poland" in one of his replies. I live in the City of Portland in the United States.

Bumping this thread for interest.
Maybe collaboration with existing local production circles - or creating new ones - would be one way to approach the food problem?

Imagine a food exchange board: buyers and sellers put their listings up, categorized according to type of food, geographical location etc. Using statistical methods for analysing supply and demand, the producers would know where to focus their efforts, in order not to waste precious resources.

Maybe this has been done already and is in use somewhere.

Is anyone here in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire? We cook a pretty mean quiche and I might be able to talk my wife into selling them for BTC. If we could buy the ingredients for BTC, even better!

There are farmers' markets all over the place up here. I've considered talking to them about Bitcoin, but I'm not really a regular shopper there and wouldn't have any sort of shared trust to start that sort of conversation. Maybe others who do shop locally would have some luck with this, though!
