Are you serious? We just hit $92. We are only $8 away from $100 and we hit it most recently about 4 days ago. Chances are we'll hit it again pretty soon.

Nothing magic about the $100 number. Like a sordid old hooker, it's already been hit more times than I can remember.

Holding $110 and breaching $115 is more important in my mind.

Anyway, if forced to vote, I'll choose that we break $100 in the next couple of days. Price is depressed. Decline last week was rash and unconvincing, and purely due to the Gox problems making price discovery difficult. I imagine there are lots of people sitting out on the sidelines waiting for the right time to buy.

Bears can basically be ignored -- if you believe their screams, they haven't held BTC to sell for months now. Which means the louder they are, the more potential profit can be taken from them.

Very good call - I agree completely, the $110-$115 is the wave, if that's crossed than $130 -$ 140 is the next one.

The most interesting thing to me is... once big money is invested in Bitcoin ($100m +) the price can go 4 figures, so the market is pretty small at the moment......

rather, the rally from $65 to just above $100 was unconvincing...and criticizing bears? the price has gone up from $13 in January 2013 and now is around $90...how much appreciation in price is realistic without a slide down? what fundamental factors have change..the bubble was built on hype and speculation...

And the antibubble was built on fear, uncertainty, and doubt.

Huh? We did slide down -- that's right. From $260 to $65. Bears were right. Are they right now though? That's the question!

And on the contrary, volume was strong on $65 to $106. $100 to $90? Not so much.

the trend will change, when the trend changes...once we start hitting higher highs and higher lows...we are not there yet...

There was no fear, uncertainty or doubt; sentiment has been neutral ever since the $50 panic. This is also evidenced in the low volumes. The entire market is on hold until what every sane person knows will happen: the kick-off for capitulation.

I've no idea where we are heading, but I figured I would just point that out.

There's a year missing, since "after 2014" means 2015 or later.

Anyway, we could well go down for a while more but we're so close to 100 right now that a whale wiggling its tail fin will get us there, so it's kind of a meaningless poll, except to show the irrationality/obliviousness/dogmaticness of the bears.

Voted October, I think we are still in the deflation phase, even if it's turning up at the moment. Once we have reached the baseline things will turn up steadily until the next Bubble comes along.

I don't think we'll get past $110, ever again.

$ 100 can be hit any second. Bitcoin volatility is high. One or two big orders may be sufficient.

It will be more interesting to know when will we surpass $ 100 and stay above that mark. I don't expect this to happen before the end of 2013.

Within the next couple of weeks, probably early August or late July. We're boucing off the high 80's right now.

Heading up, 96.41 at the moment... I still doubt it hits 100 before 2014.

The market would be flat or even slumping down if it weren't for the buying whale on MtGox, who apparently dumps on Bistamp.
If the whale makes another move today, we might see 100, if not the price will drop back to 94-95.

If it comes to it, there is nothing wrong with buying high and selling higher. I've made plenty that way. Personally, shorting bitcoin isn't worth the risk right now, but I prefer to keep my profits in fiat.  :)

Crossing 100 doesn't really matter (and it's clear some of the bears here aren't emphasizing the point of whether we technically hit 100). It's whether we stay above 100 on any volume for any real length of time.

Or better yet, whether we cross 115 on volume.

How does it count if mtgoxUSD simply become devalued? MtGox's price differential to all other exchanges has risen to about 10%. You should probably be looking at Bitstamp's prices.

It's pretty clear to me that there is nothing ahead but tears. No large investors wants to set foot into this uncertainty with the withdrawal issues. And even though it is delaying the fall, it will be that much harder once the market place is intact again ie people can get their dirty fiat.

I think Bitcoin is superior to fiat. So I will keep my coins and only trade them for goods (in a few years).


Unfortunately I don't own much of either Bitcoin or fiat.

adamstgBit you should be careful with your words as you might double peoples debt for student loan for your wishful wet dreams. Think about it first...

should pay off more than an actual education nowadays. so yes it will likely be the best investment a student will make

Average price I paid is $120.  I am right there with you. ;)  Still could be a good deal in the big scheme of things.  Sure, I could have sold high and bought more lower but it is hard to predict the market's movement really.  Perhaps when the price gets to $200 I will sell a few in case there are more bumps along the road but I might just hold on for long term too.  Not really sure.

We should see $100 sooner rather than later. My prediction before the first of August.

When it gets over $100 on MtGox other exchanges will catch up eventually.

IMO it's unlikely to see 100 today on MtGox, because it would take another 10k BTC whale buy, and we already had one today.
The whale can wait to buy at 97-98 tomorrow, or maybe price will drop a bit during the weekend, and then we'll see 100.

Continued deflation of the current bubble down to $30 - $50 range over the next 6 months based solely on the drying up of the hype that generated the bubble. Then a second bubble would not be expected for at least another year minimum, meanwhile the crypto-coin market will be fragmenting into more coins with newer and better features (such as alternative hashes) and this will draw off funds that would in the past have flowed into BTC by default when it was alone in the marketplace.  In addition centralization of hashing power in ASICs will weaken demand for BTC as its security becomes weaker due to the easily target-able nature of the ASIC operators (FINCEN will be knocking on their doors asking if they are registered money transmitters), and for the obvious collusion potential that such a small group has.

A possible drop to $50ish may make sense (don't know if it would take anywhere nearly as long as six months, though), but not the FinCEN knocking on doors part. For a start, ASIC miners aren't only in the US!

Competition from Litecoin et al may play a rôle but healthy competition might also strengthen Bitcoin longer term rather than weaken it.

Price-wise, it's easy enough to make a short-term bear case when we've obviously been in a bear market. Though there's no clear evidence the bottom of it is or will be lower that 50 USD, IMO.

It's pretty close already, price just seems to fluctuate a lot right now though.

I remember back in the day when bears used to be stylish- Proudhon called a 2 bitcoin bet when the price had shot up to just under 100, and he was also a closet bull. Ahh Blitz. These bears today they call turdy bets out of desperation and don't put their money where their mouth is.

only for pools. non-solo asic operators don't generate bitcoins. it gets sent to them by the pool ops. legally speaking FINCEN guidelines aren't actually correct (and US centric). the protocol pays pool operators who then redistribute to "miners". anyways

I vote that by the end of August 2013 the price will fall once below 100$ on MtGox.
That's after a bubble spike that may rise beyond 200$. And then it may rise above 100$ again.

$100 on BitStamp today, yay!

Has anyone been paying attn to bit stamp bid/ask depth? How correlated is it to mtgox's order book?

seems 2014 came early this year.

I've been watching it a bit and it looks like USD are stable around 1.1 million but coins might be starting to decline slightly, though it is rising rapidly relative to Gox, earlier I noted bitstamp had about 1/5th the coin depth of Gox, its now 1/4th.  The USD depth/ BTC depth would now predict a price of around $50 on bitstamp but last time I checked that same comparison was around $40.  This would seem to indicate that people are not moving BTC their from Gox or if they are they are not accumulating.  The rising volume on bitstamp would support that.
