ELF VS CMC

Cosmos (CMC universe coin) is a continuation of ideas put forward by the multi-chain system, the Satoshi's PoW consensus
algorithm replaced by Jae Know's Tendermint consensus algorithm. Tendermint, a Byzantine-fault-tolerant algorithm, is
optimized for PBFT and requires only two rounds of voting to reach a consensus.

Essentially, it contains multiple blockchains (running in the zone) using separate instances of Tendermint, and a chain of
hubs using de-trusted communication. Cross-link communication is limited to the transfer of digital assets, this cross-link
communication can return data and path, such as sending the sender information of the transfer status.

Aelf's cross-link communication is not only capable of transferring digital assets, but also able to pass any other information.
For example, aelf’s sidechains can trigger contract execution on other sidechains.

In addition, Tendermint did not come up with a parallel processing model on a single chain, so a chain also has its own
limitations. CMC performance is limited to a single machine, scalability will only be reflected when using multiple instances of
tendermint.

Aelf has proposed that parallel processing on a single strand will dramatically increase the upper limit of single-strand processing
capacity.

ELF VS EOS

Both EOS and aelf have proposed to use parallel processing to handle transactions, but the difference is that EOS only processes
in parallel on the main chain, while aelf's parallel processing framework enables parallel processing on all side chains.

By doing this, parallel processing will be performed on both the backbone and the sidechains.

ELF VS ETH

Ethereum has no scalability, no isolation of resources, and the popularity of CryptoKitties, CryptoZombies and more games to
come will block the transfer of the entire Ethereum network.

Aelf adopts the architecture of resource isolation to ensure that the surge of traffic on one chain will not affect the efficiency
of any other chain.

High Performance Smart Contract Runtime

Contract execution level: Based on Protobuf, aelf implements a smart contract execution environment similar to that of grpc. The input and output of all objects and their storage are all based on Protobuf high-performance serialization. State storage uses a high-performance decentralized database such as redis.

Overall contract construction: Codes generated through the grpc plugin shows performances equivalent to that of a grpc server.

Contract Controlling: Parallel execution within blocks can be operated through AKKA clusters.

Consensus System

Security: The Secret Sharing algorithm can ensure that distributed random numbers are generated on all elected nodes. The sequence of block production in each round is determined through the generated random numbers, thereby reducing the possibility of node collusion and malicious acts.

Finality: After ⅔ of the nodes verify a block, it will become irreversible and the data will be stored on the chain. The verified blocks cannot be reversed by hardforking.

Multiple Token System

Based on the contract system, a built-in Token System capable of blockchain interoperability has been implemented. All assets can be issued, transferred, locked and transferred across chains.

Voting System

Based on the contract system, a universal voting system is functional, facilitating online governance and future protocol upgrades.

Cross Chain System

Cross chain system provides a way for any data on one chain to be transmitted to a different chain. The system is based on the Merkle tree root index and the amount of data stored in the mainchain is independent of the change in the number of sidechains. This means that the entire system can achieve multi-level mainchain/sidechain indexing and thereby scale up with ease.

Web API

A high-performance ASP.Net Core server results in a high-performance interactive framework.

I read the whitepaper and don't feel like I am fully grasping the system, but it seems to be really attempting to revolutionize 'internet infrastructure'.  If you believe they can, then certainly they could see revenue in the 10's of billions.  The token is already trading at 1$, and the total supply is 1 billion (but not current supply).  To me seems like a lot of speculation driving that, or people are seeing a much clearer delivery on the technology. 

this is a supercomputer project. XEL has a very good system that will launch soon and it has /20 the market cap. if you like to buy high get ELF otherwise..

I have read up about this project and i love it ! but there is one thing that bothers me is a private entity owning a vast majority of the tokens, this is not fair distribution of tokens, who is to say the private entity wont just dump tokens on the market to lower price and keep buying up the cheap tokens ?  there needs to be more transparency for this token to succeed.

That's what I was wondering also. They raised thru private investors but didn't talk much about the nature of the project and what are the benefits of this token. And with the total supply and the airdrop amount, seems that it doesn't add up. The dev team should explain further about this project.

the bounty is an utter waste of one's time and energy...do not even bother. This is less known competitor for already underdeveloped projects which is progressing very well in cloud computing space. It is few days ago when by chance I started to dig in this and found it of my interest as well. It is vast space but better service provider will be on leading position in the long run here.

I have been in the bounty program about 2 months, and have managed to get my points and ELF each day but only after working out a number of workarounds that have to be used to get points for tasks done to show as registering and giving rewards. As with you there are up to a hundred people doing the program complaining in the two Telegram channels each day about both not being able to log into the candy program an/or referral or assignment tasks not registering despite being done and hours of refreshing the candy website and logging off and on etc. From standing back and looking at this I’ve realised there is a basic fault with how the Aelf Azeroth bounty website is set up and how it functions, and I doubt any amount of fixing ‘bugs’ or maintenance will improve things much until the basic website flaw is fixed. Hopefully the Aelf candy bounty will then work flawlessly >95% of the time like other automated bounties.

All the accumulating complaining comments and posts on telegram and Reddit and social media, and badwill in candy participants who feel hard done by at not getting earned points or who give up on the program before 3 years because of the constant flaw in it - may end up having a bad long-term effect on Aelf’s image and public regard, which is the exact opposite of course of the goodwill Aelf intended the candy program to foster in participants and in the wider crypto community. I am at the early stages of trying to come to an arrangement with Aelf to explain the basic problem with the Azeroth program, and hope that may turn what’s looking a bit like a lemon into a mustang!

I don't get the parameter people use to measure when it comes to select any coin or token. I also missed this totally at start but when I saw how active the team is I didn't let it go away. A market in top 100 on CMC plus more than $80 millions volume for last 24 hours alone and still isn't interesting for many. People will enter in this market when at gets price in double figure in few months.

The token is currently on over 1800% gain from ICO prize. The ICO prize was $0.099 and it is currently sitting at 1.867 amidst the while cryptocurrency market crash. The project is doing well so far in the market, majorly due to the support form Asian countries. Any project from that region always sees massive support from the people over there. I so wish the development team continues to carry the project with way and manner they gave been doing. The coin will naturally grow like Antshare(now NEO) did.

Aelf is a relatively new competitor in the dapp platform race but already has solid support from large investmentm capital firms. The project is utilizing resource separation through side chains and a unique governance model to build an entire blockchain operating system.  Although further back than similar projects, aelf could benefit from the synergy created by the openness and scalability of its architecture. Only time will tell if it’s too little, too late for this up-and-coming coin.

Bitcoin is old. It is slow, it is expensive, and it has no real worth. You may have heard this argument against the use of BTC transactions. In fact, this is sometimes used to counter the use of cryptocurrencies as a whole. But is it really true? There is certainly some merit behind these views, all-be-it possibly exaggerated or out of context. This is arguably due to the fact that the blockchain running the bitcoin network is not scalable, and this is the point which needs to be addressed. The lightning network attempts to solve this problem, but is basically the blockchain equivalent of putting a Nissan GTR engine in an old 1960 Holden. There are so many reasons why this won’t fix the problem entirely.

This article is not going to look into those details, but will instead delve into the aelf project, which is resolving this issue in a completely revolutionary way. Parallel processing is a can of worms that can cause havoc with a blockchain network if done incorrectly, but… if done correctly, could drastically remove the limitations of the current blockchain.

Let’s first take a step back. In order to improve the performance of current blockchain technology there are two layers to work on. First, one can look at upgrading the hardware- getting bigger and more powerful nodes, and increasing the power and performance of any hardware component. The second aspect is improving the efficiency or streamlining the processing performance. Aelf is focusing on both of these aspects. I’ll be discussing the improvements that will be done to the processing performance through parallel processing.

Github 101 — Understanding Github and How Aelf Uses It

If you’re not a developer, then chances are you may never have heard of Github. However, it’s a vital technical tool in development, particularly so for blockchain projects. All the code that runs aelf and many other blockchain projects is stored on Github, and there are good reasons why it has become the project management tool of choice.

Version Control with Git

When a team of developers is working together on a project, they need a way of controlling which version of the software is the master copy. Whether there are two or twenty developers, version control is necessary to track all the changes that have been made to the underlying code.

The way this is managed in version control systems is through branching and merging. If a programmer wants to make changes to the master code, then they download a copy from the master code repository and make the changes on their version, without affecting the master code. They can then merge their changes with the master copy once they’re ready to go live.

Git is a system that manages version control. It was developed back in 2005 by Linus Torvalds, the software engineer who created the Linux operating system. Linux is open source, so any developer can propose changes to the underlying code. Therefore, Torvalds developed Git as a way of managing version control for the Linux code. Git takes a snapshot of the current version of the code each time there is a change. Changes are known as commits.

By itself, Git is an excellent tool for developers, and according to a Stack Overflow survey, it’s used by more than 87% of all developers. However, it isn’t very user-friendly for non-coders, which is where Github comes in.

In Github, a developer creates their own branch, called a fork, by taking a copy of the source code. Once they make their changes to the code, they can submit a pull request. This tells the owner of the code that there’s a change to be reviewed.

When the change is accepted, it is incorporated into the project source code as a change, known as a commit. The number of commits on any given project is a reliable indicator of the activity levels and therefore, the health of a project.

For the last twelve months, aelf has ranked in the top ten blockchain/cryptocurrency projects in terms of Github commits, demonstrating the hard work and commitment of the aelf development team in the leadup to the main net launch.

Profiles make Github a very compelling tool for developers and project leaders alike. Each time a developer successfully logs a commit for any given project, it’s stored against their own personal profile on Github.

So, if a developer submits a pull request for the code of an open-source project that they haven’t worked on before, the project leader can review all of their previous commits before they approve the pull request. Therefore, the Github profile acts as a kind of resumé for programmers, with a log of prior coding work.

Github is the ideal tool for sharing progress and information about project development. Any aelf community members can enjoy the various features of Github outlined below.

Transparent Metrics
Firstly, Github is user-friendly, and you don’t have to be a programmer or even have an account to browse projects and users. Under the “Insights” tab for any given project, there’s a set of useful metrics that anyone can view. These include a dashboard showing an overview of activity.

Singapore firms eye Dubai as emirate emerges as startup hub
They believe Dubai can be springboard to Middle East markets; among those which've taken the plunge include aelf, Touche and WeInvest

DUBAI is firing up its startup ambitions - and a rising number of Singapore firms are taking notice.

These companies see expansion opportunities in Dubai amid a startup-friendly environment as well as partnership possibilities with both the private and public sectors. They also believe the emirate can be a springboard to the Gulf region and the wider Middle East market.

Among the companies that have taken the plunge is blockchain startup aelf, which has forayed into the Middle East through Dubai-based consultancy Connect Global Strategies.

Co-founder Zhuling Chen said the Middle East is fast becoming a growing influence in the global blockchain ecosystem.

"Both the business community and governments are seeking to reorient the economy away from the oil industry, and the blockchain industry has become a key focus in making this a reality. This is evident in the sheer number of new blockchain applications across the region, including retail payments, land registry, business registration, and personal identity management," Mr Chen said.

Dubai's fintech accelerator programme FinTech Hive has also attracted interest from Singapore startups. Its 2018 edition saw more than 300 applications from over 45 countries, with 4 per cent of them from Singapore.

Digital wealth platform WeInvest and insurtech firm InsureVite were among the selected finalists of the programme in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Arif Amiri, chief executive of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Authority, said WeInvest has raised US$12.2 million since graduating from the programme, and has opened an office in DIFC as part of its international expansion.

He added that in 2018, FinTech Hive signed more than 10 landmark agreements with leading fintech institutions across major markets in the world, including Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, New York and Brussels.

Another early bird on the Dubai scene is local biometrics startup Touche which announced last October that it had gotten Dubai-based SEED Group on board as its local sponsor and partner. SEED Group is a diversified group of companies that establishes strategic partnerships with organisations in various sectors to accelerate their presence in the Middle East.

Touche chief executive Sahba Saint-Claire told BT then: "The Middle East, and the United Arab Emirates in particular, are very interesting markets. We have spoken to a number of companies and regardless of their size, we have found them very entrepreneurial, innovative and open to new technologies."

Touche offers businesses a fingerprint-based payment and loyalty management system. Mr Saint-Claire added: "The senior executives we talk to get our vision, which is to deliver much more personalised and convenient in-person customer experiences through the Touche solution, whether that is through biometrics or through more traditional payment methods."

Though Dubai can't yet hold a candle to startup strongholds such as Silicon Valley, London and Beijing, its efforts to get into the game have seen some headway. The city ranked second, after Jakarta, in a 2017 report by CB Insights that analysed emerging startup hubs.

The report crunched disclosed global venture capital (VC) data to identify promising startup markets among the long tail of more than 50 countries that collectively take 5 per cent of global VC deals. VC investment into Dubai soared from US$20 million in 2012 to US$411 million in 2016.

Walid Hanna, founder and chief executive officer of one of the region's largest VC firms Middle East Venture Partners (MEVP), said the company has identified six key tech verticals with attractive growth potential in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA): new media, e-commerce and marketplaces, fintech, healthtech, edutech and travel.

"Because South-east Asia (SEA) and MENA have a lot in common - a large digital-savvy population, fragmented or differentiated markets, and a growing middle class - there is an opportunity for SEA companies in those sectors to expand here and vice versa," said Mr Hanna. "GuavaPass and travel search engine Wego (an MEVP portfolio company) are some of the companies that have successfully done this expansion and we expect this trend to accelerate in the future."

At the regulatory level, the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) inked a fintech accord with the Monetary Authority of Singapore last August to pave the way for each party to refer fintech companies to the other, as well as facilitate the sharing of information on innovation in the financial sector.

The parties also agreed to work on joint projects on the application of key technologies; these include digital and mobile payments, blockchain and distributed ledgers, big data and application programming interfaces (APIs).

As more startups venture to Dubai, some might face hurdles as the emerging hub grapples with teething issues. For instance, while there is a lot of "solid early-stage investors" there, the regional technology sector lacks Series B and later stage growth capital, noted MEVP's Mr Hanna.

"In addition, one of the biggest challenges startups in Dubai face is the difficulty in acquiring technical talent," he added. "There needs to be further encouragement of technology-based education and training for youth to develop their talents and prepare them for jobs that require these skills."

That said, innovation and partnerships continue to drive the city's growth, making it an attractive destination not just for startups, but corporates looking to also be part of the ecosystem.

For instance, HSBC is creating an innovation network across the globe through innovation labs and fintech accelerators in Hong Kong, the UK, Mexico, and most recently in Dubai. Its innovation labs help it think and act like startups, explained Ghinwa Baradhi, HSBC's chief information officer for MENA and Turkey.

"Strong economic growth, gaining venture capitalism and angel investment opportunities as well as a progressive leadership vision are a few game changers that make the startup scene unique in Dubai," said Mrs Baradhi.

As of today, aelf team only minted 33% of the total ELF tokens from the contract, and which are being used for private sale, advisors, partnerships, marketing, and airdrop. At present, aelf’s Total Supply displayed on CoinMarketCap doesn’t reflect the true total supply of ELF token.

In a previous post, we outlined why the flaws with proof of work (PoW) and proof of stake (PoS) led aelf to choose a different consensus model. The DPoS model aligns closely with our philosophy that the token holders should have the greatest right in the future of the system, and that token holders’ interests are linked with the destiny of aelf.

In this post, we will look at a further benefit of using the DPoS consensus model — namely, how DPoS coordinates trusted nodes in order to defend against the risk of a “51% attack.”

But what are these attacks, and how do they come about in the first place?

Because blockchain networks depend on consensus between many nodes in the network, they have no single “point of attack,” in contrast to centralized systems which rely on servers. As a result, they’re generally considered more resilient to traditional hacking, but even in a decentralized computing environment, bad actors can still band together to bring down the system, a dilemma that programmers have been confronting for the past four decades.

First described in a 1982 paper, the “Byzantine Generals Problem” describes a city under siege from multiple divisions of the Byzantine army, each led by a different general. To launch a successful raid, the generals must coordinate their attacks simultaneously, but each division is camped in a different location surrounding the city, and the generals can only communicate with one another via messengers.

The problem is that some of the generals may have different ideas about when to attack or retreat, and no one general can be sure that the others are all loyal. There may be one or more traitors. Each general also needs his lieutenants to implement instructions.

Therefore, the army needs an algorithm that fulfills two conditions:

1. All loyal generals agree to implement the same plan, and;

2. Any traitors cannot “trick” loyal members into adopting a bad plan.

How DPoS Achieves Both Scalability and Resilience

In DPoS, nodes are elected by token holders. In the case of aelf, the number of nodes is determined by the formula 2N+1, where N starts at 8 and increases by 1 each year. So, the first year there are 17 nodes, the second year 19 nodes and so on. This formula limits the number of delegated nodes, unlike in PoW where any untrusted node may join at will.

By incrementally increasing the number of nodes each year, this formula also allows for increases in the volume of transactions passing through the aelf network. Thus, DPoS provides a more scalable consensus mechanism than PoW.

However, some critics believe that , limiting the number of nodes under DPoS increases centralization and risks the rule of plutocracy. Dan Larimer, the inventor of the DPoS, disagrees, pointing out that these critics miss a crucial point — delegation decentralizes the control of the network to all of the token holders, which, in turn, provides a more effective means of preventing centralization.

Larimer uses the example of a radio station to illustrate the resilience of DPoS to attacks. On this radio station, anyone can broadcast (mine a block), and everyone must decide if they want to listen to these broadcasts (verify the block.)

With PoW, those who broadcast the loudest, or use the greatest hash power, have control of the network. This is especially true with mining pools which can become large enough to gain a 51% share of overall hash rate. Furthering this analogy, PoS awards those with the most money to stake with the greatest proportion of airtime.

Alternatively, DPoS gives each stakeholder a vote in who runs the radio transmitter. Unlike a pure PoS model, DPoS allows voters to elect the transmitters (nodes), giving everyone the opportunity for equal airtime. Under this system, nodes which act against the interests of the network can be voted out by the token holders, who have a vested interest in the future of the network.

Looking back at aelf again, they have taken this a step further with a performance upgrade which doubles as an extra security measure. Every node in the ecosystem is a cluster node, made up of many anonymous and remote workers all around the world. This makes it even more difficult to attempt an attack based upon accessing the equipment on the system.

While there is not yet any perfect consensus mechanism, DPoS provides a robust deterrent to bad actors. In a similar way to representative democracies in government, a node can only become a node, and remain a node, with the approval of a voting majority. Like the Byzantine generals, if a node is perceived as traitorous, then the token holders will exercise the power of their votes and remove it

Have you ever asked someone what their job is or who they work for and their answer leaves you no wiser. It might sound really professional or fancy, you may even have heard of the company but your very next question is, “Great, so… What exactly do you do though?”

This is a common case for companies whose products are focused on framework or supporting other businesses. aelf falls into this category and as such it is important we are able to clearly communicate what the key objectives of the aelf project are. In my previous article we looked at some examples of real world application the aelf network can be used for. This article will be discussing the key objectives and providing a general understanding of what aelf seeks to achieve through this ground-breaking technology.

There are 5 main objectives in which aelf hopes to improve the blockchain world. They are as follows:

1. A highly customizable OS for Commercial Use

2. Cross-chain Interaction

3. Performance Improvement

4. Protocol Update

5. Private Chain Module

By understanding these objectives one will be able to differentiate the aelf project from all other projects seemingly similar or not. These are what set aelf apart from the rest of the world. On a basic level, this is aelf. This is how we plan to change the world.

1. A highly customizable OS for Commercial Use — aelf has often been referred to as the ‘linux system’ for blockchain. Just like linux, aelf will be building the base system and framework allowing other developers to build their own fully customized and supported system/dApplication. With this framework in place it will provide the support so developers can focus their attention on ensuring their dApp is based upon application scenarios and specific to their customer needs.

With this degree of customization, aelf can transcend industrial boundaries and make itself applicable to all developers regardless of their focus or customer needs. This aelf system can be broken up into two main components.

The first component is the aelf kernel which includes the fundamentals of a blockchain system, the mainchain. This mainchain will run the overall network and coordinate each sidechain running each customized Smart Contract or dApp.

The second component is a ‘shell’, which is the basic interactive interface for the Core. Users can either use the complete Blockchain template or quickly develop their own customized blockchain which is based upon the Core.

2. Cross-chain Interaction — the aelf platform will be designed in such a way that it will allow interaction between the sidechains and other blockchain networks like Bitcoin, Ethereum etc. the purpose of this is to allow the sharing of digital assets, and user information. Further benefits of this aspect will become clearer once the project is further developed.

3. Performance Improvement — This aspect has been discussed in some of my previous articles so I will not delve into too much depth here. Essentially this objective resulted due to some very clear and serious restrictions with the current blockchain technology. These include resource segregation, scalability and efficiency.

By keeping each sidechain focused on one Smart Contract and no data running through the mainchain, the aelf network will be able to isolate any congestion ensuring it will not affect any other chains. This will also allow for the best chain be developed for each project making it unique and perfectly suited for the customer needs and requirements. Should one chain become too complex to effectively process transactions, it should be split into parallel chains to offload the traffic, reducing congestion.

Through the use of DPoS and cloud nodes which will run a series of miners in parallel, the potential to scale current transactions to fully commercial scales are now available for all sidechains in the aelf network. Currently by having one miner function as one node, the slowest miner will bottleneck the transaction processing speeds. By allowing multiple miners to collectively combine and become one node, this will remove the bottleneck and create a network many times faster than what is currently available.

Each sidechain does not need to apply the same consensus protocol. It can choose the most appropriate for the specific requirements. By allowing this, the components and data with the chain will be much simpler and easier to manage. This brings me to the next objective.

4. Protocol Update — It is currently very difficult for a blockchain to switch Consensus Protocols, should the need arise. Since the aelf network will function with any Protocol, it also future proofs itself from becoming outdated or wasting resources in switching Protocols or not having the most effective one applied. This demonstrates foresight and looking to the future by the aelf team — something that is not often seen fully in blockchain projects.

5. Private Chain Module — One aspect that is very important for businesses is the ability to control and privatise their personal and collected data. Currently these private chains, which utilize blockchain technology, are isolated to the point they have no connection to external eco-systems or other businesses. The aelf project will be allowing users to rapidly create independent chains using our Private Chain Module and obtain full ownership of it while still utilizing the benefits of the overall network resources and security should they run the DPoS Protocol.

As you can see, this project is unlike anything that has been presented to the public to date. There are many components which will appeal to different business cases and the fundamentals will apply to all industries. Aelf has already proven itself in the business world with the astounding success in its private sale and continuing partnerships and exchange listing.

It was with much anticipation that you, our community, was waiting for aelf to launch a platform worthy of our name. On May 1st, aelf officially announced the launch of Enterprise Beta 0.7.0 Platform. This is a full blockchain product, complete with a DevKit, blockchain Scanner, explorer and wallet, as well as a documentation library. This platform is primarily focused on bringing a product to interested enterprises to trial running their services on blockchain technology. This article will breakdown what the Enterprise Version really entails, its significance to aelf and the wider community, and why this is a vital step towards blockchain adoption.

Have you ever tried to buy a really expensive item or something that you will use everyday, like a mobile phone. No matter how much research you do online, or what people tell you, in the end you have to go into the store and feel the item, play around with it and make sure it suits your needs. Enterprises are no different, we can convince a company that our platform is amazing, but until they see it, play around with it and make sure it suits their needs, they will be reluctant to make a firm decision.

This platform is, for all sense and purposes, a complete blockchain running live. It consists of a fully functioning Consensus Protocol using DPoS, Smart Contract system, voting mechanism, multiple token infrastructure, and cross chain interoperability features. This means, that with the aelf blockchain kernal, an interested party can setup and run their own node on the system complete with a functional smart contract. This is done with minimal coding and in essence, can be setup within a few minutes.

Going back to our mobile phone example, I remember every time my mum sets up a new phone, she is so worried about the setup thinking she will choose the wrong option, not knowing what she is doing and make the phone not work at all. But imagine if she had a trial version to play with before she got the real one, knowing no matter what she did, she would get a brand new phone at the end with everything setup correctly. This is the benefit of having an enterprise version for them to try out in-house before going full public. Meaning that an enterprise who has an application they would like to test on aelf can do so on the enterprise version with minimal effort. The fact that this blockchain is still in beta means that these enterprises do not need to worry about having the application go live, timeframes or costs.

Now you’ve gone to the store, you’ve played around with a dozen phones and you like different elements of each one but there isn’t that one phone that is perfect for you. I know the disappointment of having to settle for close enough. Imagine you could go to the store and say I want feature a, b, c, and d from these phones and they custom it and make the most amazing phone just for you. We’ve already thought of this, but on a blockchain platform. The blockchain is developed in a manner which allows the isolation of each module. Should an enterprise require a certain detail customized for their particular use case, they can isolate and adapt the specific module related to their needs, rather than having to adjust the complete code. As a result, there will be little effort and resources required to create a more customized solution for many enterprises. According to our discussions with many interested enterprises, this is one of the key driving forces that puts aelf ahead of the competition in their eyes. The customizability of aelf blockchain has captured the interest of many companies.

Ok, you’ve now found the perfect custom made mobile phone, that you know you will like. You open the box and go to read the manual to learn all about the rest of the phone you haven’t played with yet… only to find a 100 word warranty script. Not only that, but it comes with one charging cable and one headphone set. Now you need to spend 100 hours online learning about the phone, go to the store and buy 2 dozen charging cables and 2 more sets of headphones. Unfortunately this is often the case for blockchain platforms. They have poor documentation and any extra features are created by third party and can never been found from the one source. Early in the aelf development, we decided to change this stereotype. We have developed a fairly comprehensive library that is not only easy to understand, but written to provide a complete guide to any user that may wish to use aelf, regardless of their technical literacy. In the near future, we will publish a short video demonstrating the building of a node on aelf by using the documentation guides available publicly.

Further west, Middle East has always been a very active business hub in the silk road since ancient times. I’m still amazed by how many merchants travel thousands of kms to trade, this is probably the first large scale free trade environment in history. Hundreds of years later, I took my first visit to Dubai, my own silk road in a sense, and I would like to share what I saw regarding how blockchain has been developing over there.

An Economy shift

Over the last few years, the Middle East has been actively seeking new technology as a source for its overwhelming economy. There is a strong push to diversify from the current oil based economy.

His highness, Sheikh Maktoun bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, showed the clear support for blockchain technology during the launch of the UAE Blockchain Strategy 2021.

“The adoption of this technology will reflect on the quality of life in the UAE and will enhance happiness levels for citizens,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

“50 percent of government transactions on the federal level will be conducted using blockchain technology by 2021,” he added.

“This technology will save time, effort and resources and enable individuals to conduct most of their transactions in a timely manner that suits their lifestyle and work.”

This shift has focused so strongly on technology that they believe this strategy will save 11 Billion AED, 398 million printed documents annually, and 77 million work hours annually. In fact, the UAE Government is so focused on this push that they have announced a complete smart city 2020 vision, where blockchain is a key component.

On The Ground

Dubai reminds me a lot of Singapore, the structure, a modern, efficient, and highly organized city. As a special experience, I was visiting during Ramadan, allowing me to experience the rich culture that permeates throughout the whole city. I was able to celebrate Ifta with friends, further enforcing the strong value this culture supports towards friendship and family. It was such a heart-warming experience in such a busy business-centric world.


With the help of Jason from our partner company, CGS and Enterprise Singapore, we visited a number of government agencies, including Abu Dhabi Smart Solutions Authority and Dubai SME. It was clear very quickly that they possess a strong understanding of blockchain technology beyond the application of cryptocurrencies. This came through as they discussed their vision for a solution to transform their public. In addition, my ex-colleagues at Roland Berger are also advising large corporates on blockchain-related topics. After speaking with them, it was very apparent that their experiences also point towards a very high demand for blockchain adoption, and I was able to open the door to a few new exciting opportunities aelf can pursue.
