Title: Are links on this forum dangerous?
Post by: jerry0 on December 22, 2017, 03:18:38 AM
Many users would post links in their signature etc.  And other things like new users posting links or sites and then other users saying that site is a scam don't click on it and then input your seed etc.

The thing is if you click on these links, there is good chance there is keylogger or malware?  So that mean if you access your bitcoin wallet on your computer or any other altcoin wallet, it could be infected?  I read cases where wallets get hacked but someone said only way is if they download a program and then input their seed etc.

Also i notice there are lot of links on this forum that are not even posted by posters here.

The best advise is assume everything related to Crypto is dangerous until you’ve proven to yourself otherwise.  Trojan wallets, Phishing airdrops, fake exchanges are becoming the norm.

The mods do a pretty good job of deleting scams and tagging scammers with negative trust, but the scams are numerous and getting more advanced and difficult to detect.

Lately I’ve seen that some of the scammers own multiple accounts, who use one account to post phishing links, and other accounts to respond with positive feedback, to give the apparance of a legitimate link.

Dont trust anything.  Be skeptical until you’ve proven to yourself a link/download is secure.

You need some common sense and a little of internet knowledge, be careful with phishing sites as these emulate well known sites but are not secure normally (http:// instead of https) and of course don't ever download and run anything without using a tool such as virustotal.com from an unknown source.

The forum is moderated so the chances are less. If someone finds such a link, he will report it. And as @curv1991 mentioned a little bit of common sense and a little internet knowledge. Make sure to refrain clicking on sites that are sent via messages.(Not ust on BCT but any forum).

You should be weary of clicking on any external links here as this forum is a prime target for hackers trying to infect users with malware in such a fashion. You also probably shouldn't be using the same computer with your wallets on that you use for casual browsing if you're worried about this.

What do you mean? The ad slots?

To be safe, just don't click on links that look shady or smell fishy. Some of them might be viruses.
