I think now we need zerocoin's approach as a standard to all new coins. Opinions?

Why not just keep upgrading Bitcoin?

That should be a given. But focusing on upgrades for one coin limits potential for other coins. Some creations cannot possibly be on Bitcoin and so they exist as alt coins.
