Title: In which percentile does owning (insert number) BTC belong?

Just curious, surely there are numbers and a graph of distribution out there?

To collect the data required to do this would mean finding the balance of every single Bitcoin address.

Is that even possible?

If it is possible it sounds very difficult.

If you own 1 bitcoin, then only about 21,000,000 other people could have the same amount as you (that number is currently lower, because all the coins have not been generated yet).

If you own 21 bitcoins, then you are one of 1,000,000, when all coins have been generated.

It is not possible to know that because there is no way to know how many bitcoins a person owns. You can easily find out the distribution of bitcoins per address, but there is no way to translate that to bitcoins per person because most people have multiple addresses.

There is a poll here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=164662.0
I doubt its accuracy, but it is probably your best source.

It is not difficult because that information is in the block chain. That is how a wallet calculates its balance.

well using easy numbers, lets say 12million. if you own 1.2mill coins you own 10% of the circulation
120,000=1%
12,000=0.1%
1,200=0.01%
120=0.001%

Duh, ofcourse...:)

It's possible to find relation between some addresses when coins are combined from many addresses
