Title: Kraken and Coinbase rate exchange
Post by: ashler on December 25, 2017, 12:58:15 PM
Maybe many of you know already this but I just realised that Kraken has a very good rate to buy, and Coinbase to sell.

For instance, in this very moment, I am able to buy in Kraken ETH for just € 625. And if I want to sell this 1 EHT in Coinbase, they will pay me € 663 (!!!)

https://trade.kraken.com/kraken/ETHEUR
https://www.gdax.com/trade/ETH-EUR

Someone who has enough money could easily now go and buy e.g. 100 ETH in Kraken, and then sell it in Coinbase and would make a profit of nearly € 4,000 instantly, regardless of market volatility.

Crazy, isn't? ::)

Yeah,if you have enough money for that then you can earn money instantly. You can do this for bitcoins too,you can buy bitcoin in localbitcoins for cheaper and then sell them in coinbase to have more profits. But the fee is little problem with this type of strategy so you have big investment to cover this high transaction fee.

There are often arbitrage opportunities between exchanges but they don't account for transaction fees, exchange fees and also the risk involved in the time between buying and selling your coins. Arbitrage can be profitable but it's not nearly as profitable or straightforward as it appears.

Arb trading is grossly impractical, network congestion is at an all-time high with an insane amount of fees-- so you're never going to get your trancation to the person that you want to as you're going to lose a shit ton of profit and be forced to sit around waiting for confirmations. Plus in your time of waiting, you're going to lose out on a ton of money as the bitcoin price is just jumping all over the place

Volatility is too high as well as congestion. Can't make money in this sort marketplace.

not really. we see these kinds of exchange imbalances all the time. people definitely arbitrage the difference. but from my perspective, it's not worth missing out on the market volatility. the fiat banking system is so slow; is a 6% gain really worth being locked out of the market for several days or even weeks at a time? (it's actually less than 6% once you account for transaction fees, trading commission, and bank wire fees to withdraw € and re-deposit it to kraken)

also, banks don't like being used like this. you're likely to get your accounts shut down if you regularly arbitrage the markets like this. one alternative is to simply keep funds on both exchanges, and then re-balance your ETH/€ holdings on each exchange such that you ETH amount stays the same but you € holdings increase. the problem is that sometimes these imbalances remain for weeks at a time. i tried this a few years back when chinese exchanges were trading much higher than the west. i ended up being locked into CNY for much longer than i wanted to be since the gains from the bull run were so much bigger than any possible arbitrage gains.

Yeah,I am also noticed that there will be a price difference in bitcoin or other coins in different exchanges so if you can access the both exchange you can make good profit in short time, but there is high risk in doing like this is the transaction time takes too long some time so if the price goes down at that time you will have chance to lose your money also.So if you want to try that know the risks before doing anything but currently doing like this is not advisable because of high transaction fee.

There are different fees associated with transfer of ETH between exchange where you want to sell it and also you have to pay higher fees when you want to make deposits in EURO to buy ETH. So if the price spread between two exchanges is very small than your chance of making any profit out of it is almost zero.

You need to have both EUR and ETH on both exchanges and wait for price to flip between two which is quite rare for example ETH is still cheaper than in Gdax till now and it always tend to be like that.

Arbitrage trading with Bitcoin is at the moment difficult, because the funds must be so high, that the fees are lower than the arbitrage profits, what seems to me impossible at the moment.

Arbitrage trading is really profitable, but you really need a huge capital to make profits.
As long as you have a verified account on both exchanges, can deposit and withdraw EUR, it's possible to do.
Consider the fact of high fees to deposit and withdraw fiat currency or send eth/ bitcoin from an exchange to another, the last thing which may be the most important; how long it takes to be confirmed, due to cryptocurrencies price can rise or fall within few minutes.

Oh, I certainly wouldn't do this with Bitcoin. Rather with Ether or Litecoin where transfer fees cost a few cents only!

Bitcoin transfer is too slow and costly at the moment. Price may have changed before you can do the second transaction. Litecoin is my preference at the moment.

I don't think there is any congestion on the Ether network - at least, not as bad as on the bitcoin network
