Bitcoin should have a drop, after the price increased to almost 20K, it's time for a correction. Or even a crash to 11K or maybe even lower to 8K. As the whales will start to cash out soon, a significant price drop will follow. That's just the way it is, prices go up and prices go down.

No, i dont think that can decrease bellow $8k.
And i guess that price can hit ATH within some days/weeks after network comes to normal.

it has a possibility of decreasing but not in that price of if the case that your choice of dropping the price of bitcoin is on your list and choice for this is the best time of buying now and then hold it for cause we all know that there should be some pump on it next year.

The situation on the crypto currency market has become very unstable and most likely the prices for such currencies will decrease, this is my opinion. As far as I'm correct, time will tell, but I very much hope that the prices for all crypto-currencies will start to rise after the new year :)

In my view it's more of a holiday season thing..and since biggest of them all is coming.. on 1 January.. thus people are just taking out the money for their own expenses..

I think long term (1Y+) the price will increase.  However it is just too volatile to try and time the market right now.  Some people are good at this, I am not, and the vast majority of market times lose their shirts.

There are a few different things happening right now, but the big one for price is wall street money.  I don't think that most people fully appreciate how small bitcoin is compared to the money coming in right now.  The largest private hedge fund is ~120 billion, it could have swallowed the whole market at the beginning of the year with room to spare (assuming everyone wanted to sell).  There are lots of hedge funds.  And mutual funds, and etf's, and wealthy individuals, etc.  Blackstone manages almost 6 trillion in assets.

In the grand scheme of things bitcoin is still peanuts.  I think we are seeing such large fluctuations in part because of how these funds operate.  If you run a hedge fund, and you can average 10% a year, you are one of the best out there.  If you can do 20% or more you are a legend.  So if a fund puts 10 million in bitcoin, and it goes up 40% in a week or two, that fund manager will likely sell to lock in those gains.  They don't always have the luxury of waiting out the markets, they have to make their clients happy.  The markets used to move from 10k transactions, but now we got REAL money coming in and out.  There are of course other factors, but I think this is the largest contributor to the recent volatility.  Unfortunately private hedge funds are, well, private, and unlike mutual funds and other funds, they don't necessarily have to disclose what they are up to.  Therefore the actual data of who is doing what is hard to come by.

i believe for now you are correct in saying that its related to the holiday season and people cashing out due to needing money and so on. I believe that after new years it will continue to be pumped and will go to 21-25k. However for the time being it could also go down to 12k and even under, in the next 3 days. I would advise to keep holding and only sell if you have to and only invest what you can afford. Play it safe and you wont get hurt in the coming weeks.

Here's the funny thing... I have not cashed out any bitcoin this holiday season for needing money. Nor did any of my real-life network of Bitcoin hodlers; and there are quite a few of us. So if 0% of my real life network cashed out, do you think there really is a large enough percentage of people cashing out for the holidays to dump the price? Please...

And stop giving advice; you're not a financial advisor. You don't know what's going to happen in the coming weeks, so stop suggesting what people should do. And i'm not just talking to you; I'm talking to everyone who always says shit like "hold on to your coin for the next couple of weeks" or "sell while it's high because it's going to drop again". People that give ANY kind of advice like this are just contributing to the volatility of Bitcoin.

I've heard people say that it will hit 8k before it really stabilizes to go up again from there on.
People draw the craziest technical analetics on the charts at the moment, but I think we'll have to wait and see.

Stabilize it will, and go up to 100k it will aswell, but for how long will the rise last :-)

if fees stay this high then you can take it to the bank that prices will drop and since they went up the price of BTC has been
trading sideways so many of the greedy miners and the bankers that own the monopoly needs to think twice if they want to

When it comes to coins long term I have the edge because I understand the software architecture and
infrastructure and block-chain, PoW and mining is not going to last the course (pile of shit) and this is why
IOTA is 12 times faster which is nothing to write home about but keep your eyes out for something called
"HashGraph" and any ICO based on that as they come out (Nothing uses it yet)

I have also spotted a freight train coming our way that will make the Crypto-boom-bust look like
nothing but you will have to wait i think about 3-5 years for this to arrive at the station and i have

No, you don't have to be in that state of mind that you mostly think bitcoin is going to be in a continuous decrease. Start to know on what's happening every end of the year, price starts to be on that way but the good thing is price may move forward quickly in the next months to come.

bitcoin is falling in small increments in the last few weeks or so. I think that before new year its gonna plunge to around 11-12k, possibly 10ish. people are cashing out and i think people will cash out just before a fork too. im trying to invest in other cryptos at the moment because its smaller risk and possibly better long term as it has a chance to shoot up and is more affordable for the masses.

For the New Year and Christmas holidays are prepared well in advance and it is unlikely that people will buy big purchases for the New Year, demanding the sale of their bitcoins. In any case, after a few days, when people leave the festive tables and weekdays begin, bitcoin will begin to grow again. According to forecasts, next year he should reach a rate of 35000-40000 dollars.

Maybe, it always happen then it came back to increasing again. You should not be worried about that, just hold and relax everything will be alright and back to normal.

I find it really doubtful that we ever dip below 8k anymore. Honestly I don't see us breaking 10k much if at all from now on to be honest. I feel it's now more and more people and they are not being warded off by the price decreases, they are still coming in handfulls of money just looking at how to get involved. Once the new year passes I think we will start to get back on a steady upward trend. Take my advice with a grain of salt though, it's your money.

Sooner or later the price will be stabilized and we’ll see that Bitcoin is ready to make new records. I suppose it wouldn’t be a bubbled price again. I wait for steady reliable growth that will bring us constant results.

I think yes, the situation for btc is not too good, as most of the cashflow are in alt coins, alt coin now is on bullish trend, but btc will recover its just need more time to heal, and the process of healing will be faster if the developer can fix the transaction fee

Nope. There is a very high demand in BTC. A lot of people uses it, invests, mine, and trade... It's just that, it happens sometimes. Like in the typical economic theory applied in centralized currencies it goes up and down.

But BTC is very interesting. A lot of times it reaches up, and even had the record breaking "highest currency value" that gain interest in many people (curiosity) leading to its popularity growth.

Although I agree with you, I don’t think you and you friends are a significant sample to draw conclusions. What I find more significant is to look at the changes of price in previous years.  I have been many people saying this is due to holidays but let’s see (data taken from coinmarketcap.com):

December 20th, 2016: $793,32

December 20th, 2015: $ 441,05

January 4th, 2016: $274,17

Seeing this past three years there was only one with a decrease in price during the holidays. I don’t see anything significant in the trends as to state, as it has been said many times on this forum recently, that bitcoin goes down in price during the holidays because people cash out.

Buy the dip! I just got a little more but I don't have a lot of fiat to throw in the ring. I'm way too invested in bitcoin to worry about that lol. I highly doubt we'll go much lower than this. We've goneainstream and people have been waiting for a good opportunity to buy. 40% under the ATH is good in anyone's books.

After the New Year, surely bitcoin will start to go up. I believe in it.

I quite agree with you  on the fact that Bitcoin only decrease during the holidays as a result of many people cashing out and preparing for the yuletide season. Even in some days after the holidays in this December 2017, there were rise in Bitcoin as a clear proof that after the holidays, the price will rise  again and will not continue to decrease, but will continue to rise.

I doubt that most of the people who are buying now are "stronger" hands. The strong hands are those who bought Bitcoin when it was trading in double digits or low single digits and have manged to hold on during the wild ride. There will be weak hands who sell out now, but the buyers will mostly be traders in my opinion.

Price just have correction from unsustainable 19 000$ level to 12 000$-14 000$ level where it is these days, and for now it seems that will be there for some time.If you are in cryptocurrency for some time such a development of events is not anything that should to surprise you,but many fresh buyers who bought BTC in the range from 15 000$-20 000$ start to panic selling in the moment price go down.So even price is recover to 16 000$ few days ago selling orders are just crushed that level very fast.

I think that most of buyers from 15k$-20k$ sell what they have,and some others wait some price increase to sell again,but in overall price should be stay above 10 000$ level.

i can’t pay 100$ to get 0.1 bitcoin, find fee keep high and find price down.

I believe it's just a little drop because many sold some of their bitcoin. People use that money to shop online or whatever they would love to do. The price either will stay this way or will get back up again. I personally don't expect it to go down more or at least that's what we all hope. There is no need to panic.

Ya, i think bitcoin will go down at least for another leg before resuming its upward trend. after all, the jump to $20K was a bit too fast and unhealthy

As we enter the new year with the Bitcoin rates playing at the range of $13,000, it will hopefully start rising as we surpass early January. I really think that the holidays had a drastic effect towards the rates of Bitcoin. As it ends, let us all hope that the trends start to change as well and it will rise to another remarkable rate. WE just have to remember that with it decline, our faith towards it should be stronger and not do impulsive actions that we might regret.

I don't see the connection between holidays and Bitcoin's price decrease. All the other altcoins seem to be surging forward, in spite of the holiday season. So the argument that bullish traders are holding out / cashing out before the holiday season doesn't seem to be consistent. If that were the case, there should have been an overall decline in most altcoins as well.

We do not know, but it does not matter, if bitcoin stays still then we can buy more bitcoin and stock all the bitcoin we can, if the price goes up then we benefit since our holdings go up but if the price keeps decreasing then we can take advantage of it and get more bitcoin for our money.

I have no knowledge about the technical analysis of charts, but I have a gut feeling that tells me that Bitcoins price will decrease some more. I expect it to hit around $10,000 to $11,000. I will wait to buy more when it hits those levels. Hopefully I will be proven right!

This is still an elevated level and I consider Bitcoin bullish right now.   On a very short term time frame consider 15,000 as a boundary it must mount to continue positively.   This relates to a trend dating back to spring 2017 and is a long term linear rate of appreciation, keeping near this line is also positive though it could be something of a ceiling rather then support for now.

No. Bitcoin price goes up and down that is how the market works. Some time the price is up and some time price is down is the nature of the market. When you see the bitcoin price is down that is a perfect opportunity to invest in bitcoin because the price will surely get back up in few weeks.

No, not at all. Perhaps not as much as it did in 2017 but certainly not fall. Because alts are going to grow even more exponentially as more problems pop up and more solutions for that pop up. And that will attract users, but most of them are only of BTC. So BTC can never really slump as long as other alts are in demand. And where demand is high price is high.

that's right as i noticed the price now is rising but we are not sure if it will continue to grow or it will fluctuate again. Perhaps soon the price will jump again to the top and surge. Unless if there's another issue again that can overtake the bitcoin.  However we need to monitor  the price now to ensure that we can buy in a right time maybe the growth rate will exceed again.

every people have different views about this topic but from my views the price of bitcoin will continue decrease for some time also because the price of bitcoin was increase very much and it countinously increases from four to five month so the market price of bitcoin will very high. Yup, I do get your point jjacob. Maybe the holidays really did not affect the decline, or maybe it really did. We can never truly confirm it as there are many factors affecting its growth. It was just my opinion as I know a lot of people who would sold their Bitcoins over the holidays to buy gifts and even prepare for a celebration. Where I come from, Christmas and the New Years are always grand and people tend to be very generous at those times. Since Bitcoin cannot be used here for purchasing purposes, they would have it converted to cash in lieu of the season. Another thing is that when you speak of cryptocurrency here, Bitcoin is what always comes to mind. It's one of the most flexible and diversely known cryptocurrency which is why I guess it was the most affected one.

I don’t think that bitcoin’s price continues to decrease because if you noticed past few days. I mean,  yes it goes down but we can also notice that it rises again. Although, it keeps moving up and down but at least it never consistently go down. So I don’t think it will just keep going that way. Bitcoin still managed to stand still like it always did. 

I personally think that bitcoin's price will continue to decrease until it hits the psychological support level of $8k. The investors will remain bearish as long as FUDs spread across all social media and mainstream news. In my opinion, the only thing that will make bitcoin's price to recover to $20k is Lightning Network implementation to decrease the fees and hasten the transaction speed.

obviously BTC will increase in price in the long run. the problem is too many new people have become spoiled to immediate gains. They didn't sit and wait for times like 2017 to happen. they got in when it exploded and now they're learning the hard way of the volatility of all cryptos.

I think now there is nothing to fud against bitcoin and the way to bitcoin is now clear and now we can expect that now the price of bitcoin will start to increase as you can see bitcoin has taken a cool breathe and now it is on its way to upward in price. I think people should stop and think money will flood into Bitcoin.  Whose money will this be.  There has already been tens of millions of pounds flooding in and still people have lost a lot of money and the price has crashed.  Where has this money gone.  Why flood in more money so somebody else can take it.  No more money should be put in for a while and wait and see what will happen then. 

Tens of millions of pounds flooding in?? where are you getting your information? according to coinmarketcap.com total marketcap is WAY WAY down. ATOW its at less than 413 B USD. Recently government has been into regulating of bitcoin. But, some spread this simple information in a manner that generates panic among the users. Such a news got circulated as FUD and now we've been experiencing the massive downfall. This is continue or not is still a myth.

Same as you I don't think that bitcoin will continue decreasing, perhaps there are several times that it will fall but it will rise up again. However, these speculation is not precise since it is unpredicatable. As you enter the cryptoworld you should accept the fact that it is very risky. For me these issue is just temporarily and it will rise up again just like before.

Lol. This thread was started when btc was on a dip to 17k. Imagine the horror of it now that it's below 10k and has a good chance of dropping some more. I'm not leaning on any technical analysis anymore because a lot of those didn't quite hit the mark. I'm just trying to do other things to let this bloody streak pass

New York's news of a mining operation should be able to reverse the downtrend of Bitcoin price that has plagued the community in the past weeks. Especially those created by regulatory FUD.

Right now I do not see any reason for the trend to change, we will either remain were we are or we are going to keep seeing a small decrease in the price, but this is just normal, after such an incredible rise in the price we got nowhere to go but down and when you add all the bad news that have surrounded crypto in the last month it was to be expected the price could not remain stable.

This is correct, Bitcoins price has always been fluctuating ever since and if you could compare it with its price for the past couple of years then you would know that this has been repeatedly happening. Actually, I guess that this big drop will end within 1 week. As well, it's very hard that this crisis on value of bitcoin will continue in a long term, because the reasons which led to this decrease it is not difficult to overcome , and certainly, that those problems ( Such as, the high value selling, and the huge number of transaction in a small time ...) will be resolved soon. and then bitcoin will return to the top, also there could be a pleasant surprise in the future price ( maybe the price will hit 30k in next month ). Moreover,  I advise everyone who wants to get more profit in the future , to buy , hold and invest a big quantity of Bitcoin in this period. because maybe this chance will not repeated ever.

The pull-back has caused so much panic sell, there's not much to do than to buy now, as we would begin to see some recovery to a stable price correction. But my guess is that Bitcoin is preparing for another bull-run to hit another all-time high before it recedes again; maybe between $25k - $30k, and it will settle again at $15k before the mid-year.

It seems like bitcoin is hemorrhaging more and more each day (as are all the altcoins) however, i feel bitcoins days are numbered. as more and more practical use coins come about, more people start to realize that bitcoin is becoming a novelty.

i think so the bearish run is so solid that it could last up until march it will then be over bought, and right there i think for now it will be a good entry point, on my previous prediction 2nd week of feb might be bullish but i was wrong.

yes you are right and i think those who are using bitcoin from along time so i think it's very easy for them to understand the current situation of market as well bitcoin is basically a digital currency and its price is related with market so i don't think so that it price will still go more down but in case its price go down so there is also a possibility that its price will go more high because bitcoin is the only currency which don't compromise on its price and i believe same like before this year bitcoin will also do a record business.

Yes, it will still continue to decrease most of us sell their bitcoin already thats why bitcoin price will continue to decrease and mosy of us for sure making their panic selling. I think it will go under $4k.

You should research through price charts and see how many times bitcoin market has faced such decrease in past years, then you will have a reason to change your mind to a positive state. May be bitcoin will decrease a little more but keep my assurance that it will continue to surge to a new all time highest record and  remain on top of altcoins

Bitcoin has always been fluctuating in price - hence the name tag - 'the volatile coin'. Well, other coins too have adopted that same name. But the point is that volatility is an inherent characteristic of unregulated cryptocurrencies.

I think the bitcoin price will not down more because the price is again rising and it is a good sign for us and for those who have holding bitcoin reserves the altcoin prices are stable as compared to the bitcoin and there are huge up and down we have seen in the crypto.
Now i think that the bitcoin will not goes down more the price will now increasing because the E businesses are at a growth and people are using bitcoin for this purposes so we can say that the good currency is that which is accepted for business.

Reduction of prices for bitcoin never lasted a long time now there is a restoration of its price that pleasantly pleases, and the fall is all over again from time to time the main thing is to have patience to wait it all out

The price of the bitcoin will not go down continuously, it is normal for any cryptocurrency to have a dip or correction but it will bounce back or recovers to higher price. There are many negative factors that affects bitcoin price like the fears of trading bans in some countries but these are only temporary setbacks. The first quarter of the year is also usually a bearish quarter where prices of many cryptocurrencies suffers correction many times. 

No one can predict the future. Bitcoin user and funder hold bitcoin's future, There are some instances where the bitcoin's value may decrease but time comes that it pays back. Bitcoin may define as unstable, value may decrease but for now this some sort of unfortunate event is surely temporary and not be longer. "Patience" should be part of bitcoin user's vocabulary.

Hey bro, that is the main characteristic of bitcoin, the price will ascend and then descend. If you ask will it continue to decrease, well nobody knows. It's hard to predict when bitcoin's price will go up or down but you should know how to play along with it. If it descend, you should know what to do because dipping of crypto prices means opportunity. You should take advantage of that. :)

Yeah there are many times that bitcoin really drop hard but it is still here and remain strong as what we can see that bitcoin is still the best coin of all because we all know that bitcoin is only the coin that is definitely fame than other altcoins, they can't introduce altcoin if they cannot tell about bitcoin because bitcoin is the first crypto of all.

I don't think the price will continue to decline, because the bitcoin fluctuates which at any time will rise and fall rapidly or due to conditions of demand and supply.
We have to wait until the price stabilizes again, do not panic with the current situation and continue to hold it because the price in a few weeks will surely rise again.

Technical analysis can give you a lot of information but when we are in a market that moves so abruptly due to things like adverse news then we need to realize there are severe limitations to what we can do with technical analysis this is why it is better to keep our eyes in the news right now, the small recovery we had in the past day was driven by the news and nothing else.

Yes it is and it can always happen because as we know, digital currencies are volatile in nature. It increases and decreases in market price anytime of the day. But i think bitcoin's lowest price is only at 6,000$ since it started to rise again at 8,000$.

If you saw the history of Bitcoin it’s not first the time of Bitcoin, it falls so many times. It always happens with Bitcoin. And in so many countries their media spread wrong news about cryptocurrency. So many peoples have fear of losing money if the government take actions against cryptocurrency. That kind of fear making people compulsion to sell their coin that’s why price of Bitcoin consistently decrease.

We sure cannot predict the future but we can definitely read the charts. The good thing about dips like this is that they end up taking time to breathe in fresh air, take some time to correct and then give room for an upcoming growth.

I think yes, because the US Security and Exchange Commission reportedly suspended trading in The Crypto Company. Or maybe the exchange of Youbit in South Korea announced its closure because hackers stole 17 percent of all assets. So 40 percent of 1000 Bitcoin holders claimed and cause its value to plummet or soar at any point.

After the decreased there is an increasing, and after the increased.. there is a decreasing, it's already natural law.. oops no, it's already a destiny bitcoin like that due of the characteristics it has. I can still make sure that many people who're want to buying bitcoin for a various activities that are to do about the price is going down, and that will make the price back in the high direction.

It's foolish to expect that his won't happen again because it will. Especially if the price follows the trend it did last year and we break ath after ath. Corrections are part of crypto.cycle and the higher they rise the correction would likely be an equivalent.

At this moment, it seems that it is not yet done. But surely, the crash won't be permanent and the time will come that its market value eventually increase and Bitcoin together with the whole cryptomarket will be able to recover from the continuous backdrops lately. Have you visited bitcoin's graph today? i think bitcoin is already start recovering and is chilling around 8,000$+ already after it plunges down the last couple of days. It's been an old scenario that happened already before bitcoin hits its historic market price high at 20,000$.

Since it failed to break $9k, I think it has made it increasingly difficult for bulls to move up and take out the major $10k resistance level. We might see an even further decline for a few more days-weeks.

but it did.the price continuous to drop till first week of February that break a $6900 price down this is t lowest drom of bitcoin since 2017 a $13,000 drop from $19,900-6,900 isnt it a huge price cut..but the coins value is starting to get over now.hopefully this will the recovery

Even if we fall back a little bit, we should probably end up having a double bottom, or just a little bit low. Right now, it is better to load up more because the next one is going to be big. We have seen a huge volume entering the market recently, so I guess some people are already moving in with big money, we may also end up seeing more cash flowing in pretty soon with all the news flying around.

I would not mind seeing another bull run that eventually lead to us to a stable price of 15k but there is simply not a reason for the bull run to happen, we need an overall optimism in people and that can only be gotten with good news, we need that something good happens, maybe another country like Japan fully embracing bitcoin could be a good start but that does not seem likely.

It seems to me that under very favorable conditions Bitcoin will again be able to return up to 20,000 dollars. Here are just the forecasts, which says that we will still see $ 5,000 for 1 Bitcoin in the near future.
