Title: Aug. 2013 ASIC Miner Survey: How are you approaching this gold rush?
Post by: DyslexicZombei on August 12, 2013, 10:54:23 PM
You have to vote to see the results.  ;D

Why is this survey useful? Well, if we show the manufacturers that there doesn't seem to be much more demand for ASIC pre-orders at current prices circa mid. August...

I'll leave it at that.  ;)

Also, feel free to let manufacturers know in this poll's comments how you feel about pre-ordering, in general. I, for one, feel that many have abused the open, trusting nature of crowdfunding ala Kickstarter and the trust of their customers.

You only get one vote. So choose wisely Daniel-san! And go wash the car, Carl, it'll teach you karate or something. [Phineas & Ferb ref.]

Yeah, you might be the rare critter that was a miner, a temp. reseller, and are now just watching. But thanks for the input! Any input we give the mfgs. that helps the case for downward pressure is helpful IMO for us miners and would-be miners. The fact that you had an ASIC miner and no longer operate one with no current pre-orders is telling in itself, at least in your case. You also sound like you're in the: "not my first time to the rodeo" category.

If someone else sees that they don't fit into any of these categories - if enough people mention it - I'll add another category.

Edit: Added the "wary buyer with cash/BTC just waiting for the right opportunity & Bob Barker to tell 'em to 'Come on down!' category." In his honor, I'll call it: bbxx's Rodeo Category.  :)

Good for you! If this place had a toast icon I'd send you one.

You took a risk on an unknown commodity that very few knew about at the time, and took a leap of faith and were rewarded for taking that risk. Care to mention where you might fall on the mining spectrum?

Besides being lucky?  ;D

lol

Man I had the money set aside to purchase 2 additional units...and I didnt :(
I listened to Piker(google it) friends, and now I regret it incredibly

I initially was eyeing BFL like everyone else, but after seeing Josh and the BFL forum its clear what kind of an operation they are, plus BFL is from the midwest and Yifu is from NYC. You dont go to Mcdonalds to buy a steak... Im just sayin

KnC... I dont trust them

Bitfury seems like the better option now

Honestly man just do your research and trust your gut. Peoples characters always shines through if you look long enough.

Oh and now Im the 4th option  ;D

Ha! Me too! I fall in that category although my hashrate is very, very minor ATM. Lot's on pre-orders but you know how it goes for us folks late to the party.

I am one of the few lucky noobs that have already met ROI so far thanks to arbitrage opportunities even with expensive early mistakes. Had to work for it though, didn't just fall into my lap. Some people are willing to speculate that BTC will appreciate tremendously in the long run & are willing to pay a premium to get in-hand or earlier pre-orders.

I'm a victim of coicumstance! I live in a capitalist society, one I wish was a bit more compassionate, but I digress, so who am I to stop someone from using their free will & speculating or using excess cash if they want to get the latest tech? I've been buying & re-selling new/used electronics like giant CRTs and pre-order Wii's when many of these whippersnappers were still in school. Point of fact: I was learning to program in BASIC on a C-64 when many of these young lads were still swimming in Pop's huevos.

Arbitrage. It's a neat word. Mah word of the day. Young 'uns could do well if they play their cards right if they remember the shovel makers and suppliers make the best ROI in a gold rush.

Should've thought of this earlier, I'm adding a category for those investing in mining shares and/or mining pools. Sorry! I'm not prefect.

I suppose I'll let the speculators forum know, since this is right up their alley.

Disclaimer: Very minor ASICminer shareholder. Wish I had more TBH.

I'm mining on hardware pre-ordered many months ago, but I also have more pre-orders coming.

No kidding! How about a nice game of chess, indeed!

Some interesting preliminary observations from just about a day's worth of voting (as of 10AM HST):

- About 2/3rds of forum members voting have pre-orders pending; to be expected in an ASIC user/buyers forum.

- About 20% BTC mine in some fashion, but have no ASIC pre-orders pending

- 6% are primarily invested in ASIC mining shares/mfgs/and or pools (may be skewed lower because I invited the mining speculators to the poll late)

- 5% are waiting for ASIC prices to come down

And some people just want to watch the world (or at least this microcosm) burn.  :D

So I presume you voted for the 2nd category. How's your ROI looking on the hardware you've received so far?

<bump>

Hello to my fellow co-op miners from my first Group Buy I organized. Thanks gents! We did it!

Survey wise:
- No real changes. If there were a shift in the percentages that could tell us about buyer sentiment from our sample size.
- Interesting, we've had a couple more resellers vote. Canary? SSB? Is that one of you?  ;D

LOL! You guys make me laugh.  ;D

Ytterbium, any one that's primarily invested in things like Labcoin, AM, Ice Drill etc. would fall under supporting/buying the mfgs., so that would be the latter category.

There's no "gulp" in spreading the risk around. I've got units ordered from several manufacturers as well as mining bonds. All units were ordered with the gains from my avalon b2.

Well you could've just stopped at: "Av B2 & delivered" part.  ;D

No gulp! for you, you're playing with house money. Like me!  ;)
