Title: List of Forks [updated 4/3/2018]
Post by: HashFace on January 14, 2018, 02:25:37 AM
Scam Advisory:  I'm not involved in any projects listed below.  I have no knowledge of the legitimacy of any of the projects listed below.  In order to claim Bitcoin forks, you usually have to enter your Bitcoin private key into a new wallet or App.  This is a very dangerous thing to do.  Some of these "forks" listed below may be scams designed to steal your private key, and some 3rd party wallets claiming to support these forks may be scams designed to steal your private key, therefore it is advisable to move your Coins to a new wallet/address before attempting to claim any fork.  If a scammer has your private key, they have full access to your Bitcoin wallet and can steal any Bitcoins left in that wallet, and any associated assets, such as Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, etc.  This list is just for reference.  Do your own due diligence, use at your own risk, and do not trust any claims made by these websites without verifying.

I updated the OP with some additional Forks from ethereum and Bitcoin cash, as well one recommended.  I'll try to keep this list updated and add new forks as I see them.

Having fork is useless when there are very few support from community and other enterprise or corporate partnership. Just like the upcoming ETH ZERO in my opinion it will not last long, it can be manipulated by pump and dumpers but little user support.

BITCOIN “FORKS” do you own due diligence. I have a list of approx 40. I have researched all of them and find around 20% seem to have a serious attempt of a web page, secure site github support real team of developers. The rest seem to be a copy and past of Gold and Cash to various degrees. Wiki has sanitised their site for some reason, which provided a good first source. Be vary cautious as most will try to scam your private keys and extract any BTC, BTG BCH BTX etc... later on.

What is unbelievable is that lots of these forks have people eagerly trading them and their value is greater than ZERO.

It just goes to show how mad cryptocurrency is at the moment.

the last time i join hardfork is bad experience for me
since today, ignis is not in my wallet to recover of my loss from NXT
so, if any hardfork incoming.. i always look it more carefully
btw too much actually
i just want to join into them with sell pending order to prevent loss if community said that it's ok to join

Title: Re: List of Forks [updated 1/20/2018]

FWIW, my plan with these forks is to check them in about 1 year ... if they are still around, have a proven track record, are actively traded, and have a community vetted open source wallet, then I will claim them.  I expect that 80-90% won’t pass that test.

I get that some people want to claim them as soon as possible, and flip them to BTC before they die, but that is dangerous.  Plus, the fees of having to move BTC for every fork will add up.

EtherZero?  That is on there, near the bottom of the list, under ethereum forks.  If there is another fork for Jan, let me know the name, I will look up info on it and add it.

1/26/2017 Update:

  • Added ABTC.
  • Noted Bytether as "Dead" - It's been offline for several weeks.
  • Updated launch date for "Bitcoin Boy"
  • Fixed block number for "Bitcoin Clashic"

You are correct, I did have the incorrect Block reference for "Bitcoin Clashic", and I fixed that.  But I'm not sure I understand the last line, according to Bitcoin cash's website, it was forked on at Block 478558, which happened on August 1, 2017. "All Bitcoin holders as of block 478558 are also owners of Bitcoin Cash. I'm not aware of any that do that (Though it is of course a risk)
Can you name one that steals private keys?

He could not name any. Because, except of ABTC which indeed asks for your private keys on their web site most of other forks you can claim using open source python script https://github.com/ymgve/bitcoin_fork_claimer (https://github.com/ymgve/bitcoin_fork_claimer)

Also you can find plenty of info how to claim and sell all these forks on https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinAirdrops/ (https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinAirdrops/)

The list is too long. I doubt if there is a sound and valid reasons for such forks. I am quite sure though that around 90 percent of these Bitcoin forks are nothing but attempts to make money out of thin air. Perhaps the same forks basically lack the vision or even the slightest idea or objective of their new coin. This is going to be another one bad point to Bitcoin if the forks continue to grow exponentially or even irrationally. It looks like a few people are playing with it already.

I've claimed coins for BCD, BTG, BCH, BCX, SBTC and those were easy to dump on exchanges. But UBTC seems to be most difficult one.

I was able to claim but unable to spend. Strangely it throws exception while submitting transaction. Says "missing input".

I considered that, but I don't want to be responsible for someone getting their wallets drained due to a scam wallet or link ... I have my doubts about many of these projects, let alone 3rd party wallets or exchanges that claim to support them ... I decided to just create an "unsanitized" list and link to their main webpage, but after that, everything is "do your own research and use at your own risk".

They do not have an ANN yet but it's a first Monero airdrop that will also be finite.

They are legit and have already put out a block explorer to show the 1:10 ratio.
I think it's on the 14th though. Let's earn!!

I added two more Bitcoin forks this week.  Notably, "Bitcoin Dollar" and "Bitcoin 2".

I also came across "Bitcoin Point", but their announcement page is pretty lacking and they don't have a website ... so ... not much add with this one. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2624373.0

Also, added a couple of Ethereum forks that don't look too promising, and a Litecoin Fork that appears to be overdue for launch ... but again, I'm not trying to sanitize this list ... I'll mark them as "dead" when/if the webpages are taken down.

The information is still coming out and we have done the best job we could to make sure it is reasonably complete, but we are always accepting information. There are contact links on the site, or you can email us directly at forkdrop@protonmail.com

Updated with a couple of Bitcoin Forks.  Found an oldie I had missed, "Bitcoin Pro".  And a new one "Bitcoin Lunar", scheduled for next month.

Also updated the dates of forks that launched this week, and added a section for projects that are often mislabeled as "forks" but are really airdrops or ERC20 tokens.  Also included a list of reference sites that I use in addition to skimming the announcement pages here at least once a week.  I marked a couple as "Website Offline" and will move those to "Dead" if they are not back up by next week.

Weekend Update ... Just did some some minor editing. EtherGold is back from the dead, website is back online, but I see no evidence that project is moving forward.  Updated some of the launch dates as their blocks have passed.  Bitvote is reported dead, but I'll give it another week.  Bitcoin Pieta was removed from the main list because it's website is offline and no fork information was ever provided.  I marked a couple that been offline for a while as "dead".

Also, "On CMC" does refer to coins that are listed on coinmarketcap.   I put that there to try to mark the project that appear a little more legit, and coinmarketcap does require an active blockchain, exchange, and a some volume before listing.  If I can figure out how to do it, I'd like to hide the coinmarketcap link behind the "Yes".  I'm going to try to get that added this week.

Thanks for the list, it is very useful.

I think Bitcoin Nano should be listed under 'Excluded From "Fork" List' as it requires registration (and proof of BTC ownership) for the "forked" coins to be claimed and distributed to a new BTN address.

(I'm the author of FindMyCoins.ninja, and that was my first post here.)

Thank you.  I’ll look into that.  That may also be the case with Bitcoin United, which I’m also looking into.  It seems that some of these “forks” have a limited “claiming” period and function more like an airdrop.  I will try to get an answer this week and will move both to the “excluded” section if  needed.

Title: Re: List of Forks [updated 2/24/2018]
Post by: CryptoSpoon on February 26, 2018, 03:47:04 AM
That's right, United Bitcoin is similar to an airdrop. During the last claiming phase, I think that addresses with activity between two block heights were automatically credited, without the need to register. Although, addresses needed to contain 0.01BTC IIRC. Previous claiming phases had different requirements. Altogether, I decided not to list that "fork" as it was too complicated and controversial to my taste.

On my site, I only list coins that were automatically credited to all, with the exception of Bitcore which requires 0.01BTC but it is a simple enough requirement so I left it there. Though, the main idea behind the site is to quickly find the coins that were forked. How would you feel about adding it to the list of other sites listed below your comprehensive list?

In the next hours or days, I'll display the UTXOs (transaction ID, index and amount) which should make it a lot easier for ymgve's bitcoin_fork_claimer users to claim their coins. I'm also working on displaying whether or not coins have already been claimed.

This is sort of off-topic, but is anyone seeing any long term viability in any of these forks?  All I'm seeing is a bunch of cash grabs by riding the coat-tails of brand recognition.  Aside from BCH, I haven't even bothered claiming any of the other forks because I'm too lazy to spend time finding real wallets/exchanges for each of them and then sweeping keys to new wallets for each. and. every. shitcoin. knockoff...  :-\

Great issue to discuss imo!

I see mostly crap, scams and performance art going on with most of the forks, but a few are worth following.

My picks for 'interesting' forks so far would be

BCH
BTCH (bitcoin hush)
LBTC (lightning btc)
BTA (btc atom)

United Bitcoin UB, might end up doing something interesting, but so far plagued with stuff ups.

My take is after NEM experience ignoring  these forks is risky, a few might end up with genuine tech merit, or achieve network effects that give them longevity. Interested to hear other opinions.

I agree with this.  It looks to me like about 20-30% never make it past the announcement stage.  Then half the ones that actually do launch never get much traction, don’t get listed, and are life-support.  I would not be surprised if 80-90% of these are dead, or effectively dead, in a year.

My guess for the survivors will be BCH, BTG, LBTC, BTA, EtherZero, Litecoin Cash, and Bitcoin Private, just because they are getting some hype at this stage.  The vast majority of the rest don’t seem to have much interest.

The fork phenomenon is a great test tube for crypto experimentation, it's a great way to distribute coins, and given all the heartache projects like NXT and NEM went through to distribute their tokens, and all the criticism ripple gets over XRP, I think airdrops, forks and now merge forks are smart way to distribute without needing PoW or ICO

I think BTCH has done something really quite cool, they got the idea of merge forks initially from bitcoin private, but added significantly to the idea by just combining the utxo sets from the 3 merged coins (btc DEX Hush), so they start with a chain of only 250mb, not massive like bitcoin private which must be close to 200 gb, plus BTCH has bitcoin level security through delayed PoW used by Komodo asset chains. It's pretty cool stuff, even if they just did it to show off the Komodo tech, and if a few bitcoin whales start claiming, who knows, it gives them access to a Z-cash clone with easy p2p trading on BarterDEX.

The other one I like best is BTA which has atomic swaps built in from the get go.

I haven't reaĺy checked out EtherZero, thanks for the tip!

I just saw this one was coming to add it, but I'm going to list it under the "excluded" section for now because it doesn't appear to be a true fork.  It looks like it will be an airdrop that is claimable for a limited time by Litecoin holders at a TBA block height.

At https://forkdrop.io we just rolled out a large upgrade that is tracking exchanges that traded in these forks (including KYC, fees, and coins supported for deposit) and also upgrades the table interactivity for sorting through and comparing.

The current counts are:

57 bitcoin forks/airdrops
11 altcoin forks/airdrops
12 historic forks/airdrops
46 coin exchanges listed

Updated:  Added Ethereum Crystal.  Also moved United Bitcoin and Bitcoin Nano to the excluded list, because they don't appear to be true forks, and have a limited claiming "period".  They may be good projects, but I want the main list to be a list of coins that are perpetually "claimable".  I also updated Bitcoin Private with the newly announced fork block height.

Too many forks. If you are looking for some extra profits by joining those forks would be good but the risk of giving your private key is just insane and might lead to hack. Maybe there are other way to find out if the fork was legit? Any suggestions?

There are actually two projects using "Bitcoin Lite", as you pointed out, the ERC 20 token that launched in the wake of the eBTC madness ... and this one http://www.bitcoinlite.us which claims to be a hardfork with it's own block chain.  And they are both claiming the ticker BTCL.  This one might be dead, though.  Their launch countdown timer ran to zero weeks ago and no further developments seem to have been made.

Weekend Update.

Added "Ethereum Inc", which claims to be a 1:1 fork.  Added Bitcoin Classic (BCL) which lists the same ticker as Bitcoin Lunar.  It also seems to be confused with BitClassic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3095296.0), which I posted last week.  Not sure what is going on with these two.  It's not an impressive announcement so this may not be a serious project.

Also, move Abitcoin to the excluded list because it has a limited claim period.

The Bitvote block explore came back online, so I'm removing the "reported dead" tag from that one.

And, Bitcoin Private was added to Coin Market Cap this week, so that one is looking more legit.

A lot of crappy forks are on the way. Soon enough we will end up with 100.000 coins and only 1% of the projects being actually worth your time and money.
There is a desperate need of a filter...

I've used it myself with a few forks and it did what it was supposed to do. There is another one (https://github.com/Ayms/bitcoin-transactions) but it takes a 1-2% fee or something. If you go our website http://findmycoins.ninja, after searching for your coins at the bottom there will be a "Full report" button where we crafted some of the commands for you. It's still in beta but you might find it useful.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3109563.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3109563.0)

We will not be listing it on FindMyCoins.ninja because of its unfair nature, but you might want to add it to your "Not a true fork list". All addresses with a positive balance were reduced by 1 coin, we find that highly unfair as it makes a big difference if you had 2 coins, or if you had 100. You either lose 50%, or 1%. Aside from that, they also removed Satoshis' and other "zombie" addresses.

Wow, found this while looking how to claim a few forks. I literally thought I was looking into 3 or 4, not dozens. Ffs this is just insanity. No way I would/could ever claim all of these or have the time to research which are scams and which aren't. If I don't get $100 out of claiming them then I won't bother I guess.

I agree, the fork craze is dying down, but a few forks have been innovative.

My favorite so far has been BTCH which unlike every other fork, made the common sense decision to remove all previous transaction data from the blockchains they merged (btc hush iDex), and started just with the unspent outputs, so the BTCH blockchain is 200MB, and not 200 GB like most of the other forks. In retrospect, there's no advantage to keeping all that useless bloat from bitcoin blockchains, so i guess most forks just copied what bitcoin cash did, which was lazy. Shows BTCH guys have higher skill level and better forsight than most of the other fork devs.

Thanks!

No idea what the future holds. But these forks do seem to keep coming. It seems to be functioning as a promotion for exchanges to attract customers. A subset of bitcoiners will flock sign up if they have exclusive support.

Perhaps the right way to look at the forks/airdrops are free casino chips or a coupon as a promotion for a service. Perhaps airdrops might become like coupons for non-cryptocurrency services that wish to attract an early-adopter Bitcoin demographic. Just happy to be building something while the price action is quiet - buying low on sweat equity :)

Good thread! But can you put extra warnings beside the names of the forks posted if they are proven to be not properly functional or scams? Ty.

Some Burst miners are investigating (https://www.reddit.com/r/burstcoin/comments/8dufxm/someone_checked_out_bitcoin_ore_wallet/) what Bitcoinore is all about. It looks like a scam.

Prospects for most forks are questionable, but perhaps they will find strength in marketing and make a pump. But fork in general, how a short idea is quite interesting

Sorry to bump the topic, but I was looking for a list of Bitcoin fork and the topic comes from the top results in google.
@HashFace in your list you forgot to mention Bitcore, which was created last year in Apri

So many bitcoin forks
But I didn't know Bitcore and started to read the white paper. Going to finish to read it home but It looks more interesting compared to all others forks

Bitcore implements true decentralization and user empowerment:
- Bitcore‘s ASIC-resistant mining algorithm restores community participation and counters
centralization effects in mining.
- Bitcore’s application of Bloom filtersi
significantly reduces the required storage to run a full
blockchain node, enabling more individual users to become fully empowered Bitcore
participants via SPV/light wallets.
- Bitcore’s novel airdrop process resulted in a decidedly more equal distribution of the coins,
encouraging Bitcore’s use as a means of payment. The Bitcore community‘s decision to forgo an
Initial Coin Offering (ICO) has kept speculators at bay.
- Bitcore is faster than Bitcoin, faster than even Paypal, enabling it to become a real everyday
payment option, thanks to its timely implementation of SegWit and other design decisions. On
the Lightning Network, a theoretically unlimited number of offline transactions are supported.
Bitcore’s low fees of around $0.003 USD per transaction make it even more suitable for
everyday use and render micropayments feasible.
- Bitcore is an open source project: Collaboratively produced, shared freely, published
transparently, and developed to be a community good rather than the property or business of a
single company or personii

Thanks very much! Great information!
Do not know the future will be like? But these plates seem to keep coming. It seems to be acting as a promotion to exchange to attract customers. A subset of bitcoin will rush to register if they have exclusive support.
I will try to update this list and add new branches as I see them.

All of them are worthless, they profit only on same name but didn´t see any competent fork of any cryptocurrency.
Änd if you think about that, almost every coin is a "fork" of a real Bitcoin (only DAG and MimbleWimble protocols are difftrent.)

that's a scam coin, we have RSK that has already developed the smartcontract for the bitcoin protocol and just ignore it will much better.

We didn't need more scam fork coin for the scam purpose.

But it seems like there are some differences between RSK and this project. Can you tell the reason that you think this is a scam? I`m really curious.

does that mean price manipulation can be done following BTC prices on the market? not like that. if you are more careful in the market, you can see that there are several assets in the market that have not experienced development even though BTC has improved as it is today. each platform must be able to make their market development. they must be able to make their markets stronger.

I really think I'm looking at 3 or 4, not dozens. Ffs this is just madness. There is no way I can / can ask for all this or have time to study scams and what not. If I didn't get $ 100 to ask them, I wouldn't mind.
