Title: [IDEA] Bitcoin Dare.
Post by: Bitcoin Swami on July 10, 2011, 05:07:34 AM
I was thinking about ways to get bitcoin out virually and I came up with this idea.  I dont have the programming knowledge or time to do it so I figured I'd throw it out there to the community.

Its kinda like ForBitcoin but in reverse.

Basically a person will post a dare and offer bitcoins to the person that carries it out and has it on film.  The dare site will hold the bitcoins and other people can pitch in to add more bitcoins to the dare fund.    To keep it honest, each dare can show the seperate addresses that the donations came from or something and if your donation isn't there you can be like wtf?.  I guess it can be open source too if that helps (I dont know much about this stuff).  The dare site can also take a small percentage from each fund to pay for itself and maybe make some profit.

After the winner makes a fool of himself or herself, the dare site pays him the bitcoins in the dare treasure chest.  Everyones happy.  You get lots of retarded Youtube videos promoting bitcoins.

Some people will do anything for bitcoins like this guy.

This is just something I thought of while smoking, feel free to add or subtract or just throw this in the garbage.

Peace.
Mike

It's a good idea in the sense that I want to watch the videos, but bad in that some idiot is going to damage themselves and there are going to be 6924 articles about how Bitcoin will make you cut off your bits.

This sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. If you do this, make sure you are protected in case somebody is harmed while carrying out a dare.

well I would think there would be a screening process.  Nothing dangerous.  No throwing molative coctails at Obama or anything. Maybe more like public humiliation.

Oh, well, I'm sure someone will do the real version eventually.  :P

I was going to do something stupid and post it on youtube for some bitcoins one time, but no one ever gave me any ideas of something creative to do. If this site get's made, I'll do some of the dares. I'm not into public humiliation, though. I'll stick to hurting myself. Maybe phrase it somehow that would prevent you from getting sued?

I really want to organize and release humorous bitcoin videos, but I haven't the production/editing/acting skills and I'm not paying out of pocket to find people who do (don't have the BTC available for this).

If there was ever a fund available for this, I would like to structure the design and public release portions.

We need an autotuned rap music video, for starters.

I somehow like the idea and I really think this could work!
An approval process would be absolutely necessary for not letting any really dangerous or illegal dares to be submitted. On the other hand the site could reward the submission of very funny and creative dares (possibly according to some voting system).
Maybe it would be necessary to restrict the participants to be over 18 because the legal troubles you could get into if some kid posts a video doing something really stupid or humiliating could be severe.

Anyway - I'm all for it!

Funny - I just thought about registering bitcoindare.com just in case - but it seems only a few hours ago somebody had the same idea - I would not be surprised if it was because of this thread :)

Rofl, I'm all for idiots doing dumb things possibly killing themselves, cleansing the gene pool if they die. you can set it up to run through TOR and be anonymous. if i had a good enough net connection and a box to run it on id So set it up >_> someone Please do this :) and don't limit what can be posted :3 since its not illegal to download or upload videos, you can post the video to a website that doesn't have a report video option so it doesn't have to be downloaded through the slow TOR network.

Oh and TOR doesn't use normal URL's if its hosted through the network, so that url would be useless. and if your worried about legal issues, look at silk road, they are doing just fine, at least so far :)

voting the winner will be a problem when money is involved. make it per user and they will register users to grab the check pot. make it per bitcoin and somebody will just vote x+1BTC to his own video to get the winning vote.
screw democracy in this case, make the jury public, make videos of a jury debating the best entries and attribute the winner with reasoning and fun in the show.

Just review the "dare" before its even posted so no one does anything stupid.

Yes the name wasn't taken as of 2 days ago when I checked.  I didn't buy it because I buy too many domain names and they just sit there.  I really don't have time to work on this cause I have mining rigs a buildin and a one year old kid.   I figured just throwing it out to the universe was a better option.
