After peaking in December, the bitcoins continued to fall from 20$ to 13$ today.
Part of the reason for that slump is that investors are selling for profit, but not a small fraction of the bad news is continuous bitcoin. The big companies a few months ago also accepted as a currency to pay now turn away from bitcoin. This has a significant effect on bitcoin prices. Recently, a variety of bitcoin polymerization has originated. In addition to ETH also have cheap coins such as CMT, ALT and Arcblock are coming out. Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency and the most popular, the price is going down, but i think that is it a temporary situation.
But a lot of new alt coins have taked a good place in this space, so is possible that one of them can replace the bitcoln, like Ethereum :)

They turn away from bitcoins not because of their price, but because of high fees. At least this was main reason why google and steam changed their minds about bitcoins and stopped accepting them. I don't think that other companies cares about bitcoins price, why would they?

It still may go as low as $8k. Don't worry though. We need these major corrections so people will have another chance to get in.

The rise from $5k to 20k happened so fast. It may go down just as fast and then even more to make you even more mad and make you panic dump. After Gox it went from $1200 to $150. People said; "Bitcoin is dead. There is no chance to recover from here."

I think everything has been already said about that. It is correction that has been expected and I.don't think there is something to worry about.
Bitcoin price changes very quickly in both ways, up or down and current price is in accordance with the situation on the market. Many investors have sold their coins in the past period so I suppose we are waiting again for balance to be established and the price will rise again, you can't be sure of that.

The recent news of South Korea banning the crypto currency has what made the price go down but like always, this is just another temporary decline which keeps happening every now and then, it should be up again in few days.

Thats all complete FUD anyway, there is no ban. Certainly does not help bitcoin and the entire crypto ecosystem.

I agree on what you have said here which we cant really say such thing that bitcoin would really already loss its shine as of this year or upcoming years because we do saw its flaw already regarding on fees and confirmation times. We cant really deny the fact that investors or companies will definitely see this thing which would lead up on hesitation to accept it again and would rather choose up another coin which would be beneficial for them.

The fees are ridiculously high. It's no wonder many people are spreading FUD if the only thing mainstream media is relaying to the masses are the high fees and highly volatile values.

It's a correction from how I see it. The price rose so fast last year between the last week of november until december the price of bitcoin almost doubled and the dips wasn't big at that time. Imo Bitcoin will still increase in 2018 but it won't gain much against other coins. It's better to experience the small crash of bitcoin now than having a bigger one in the future.

It was a correction when Segwit was introduced. But then it should have positively grown back to $17K. It is not. Korean government started banning exchanges and traders if i am not wrong. This caused drastic fall in bitcoin. I assume, bitcoin value should be retrived back to minimum of $15K in a week time once the banning is over and people start using local exchanges.

Bitcoin achieves $ 20000 because the market is very excited at the moment, and investors who know bitcoin are investing in it but that value is too great and the market can not accept that value. has returned to $ 13000 and stabilized at that value for a very long time. I am trying to buy more bitcoin at this price because I think bitcoin is the bottom price in this area, its support level is very high.

Whatever it is, essentially various activities done by many people is the causes.
Indeed, many are moving to focused more on altcoins, in making investments and trading, but of course I think still.. from time to time everyone's thoughts will certainly remain different and have a different activities / different efforts, which I'm sure there are still many people who are close to bitcoin because today bitcoin is increasingly being accepted in different countries and is more popular among many people than altcoins till can buying something or many others things that using bitcoin for payments.

I notice now that altcoins are being popular and i think it has a big contribution of the bitcoin's price. Bitcoin holders switching to altcoins can make the price lower and leads to stability like what happened on this past weeks. I beleive and hope that it can regain its value next week.

The main reason for the recent decline in the digital money market is that I think the south Korean government and China have been responsible for the removal of miners. I believe that after a period of time, the market will gradually recover. Many people are slowly looking for new minerals, so there is no need to worry about the fall.

This is definitely a temporary decline, in 5 years time when bitcoin is mainstream the price could be 100,000 USD.

After the pump from 5k$ to 20k$ happened too fast, and because of that you can expect a major correction thanks to investors selling to cash out their profit. The correction is basically over now and I hope Bitcoin will do another bull run soon.

True that bitcoin price go low but still the price is really compare last year 2017 because it's only low i think if you see what fork happen this august the price of btc really get so low like you can't imagine or you don't want to know that,i think the price can really go low fast and also it can get high also fast that's the cycle of the value of it because it's so volatile.

This kind of currency is not a worrisome for me. I am used to it in its volatile value. You should not worry in its fall down value instead you should be glad for having a chance to buy bitcoin in a low price.

I believe that after lighting network update; bitcoin price will be like a rocket launch. Before LN; maybe we can see a price of 20k$ but who knows the future? They should do something to start that LN as soon as possible, for my opinion.

Usual volatility that happens all time in some biger or smaller ratio. I think only new bitcoin users without enough time spent in bitcoin world are surprised and worried about this. The price is determined by market so there is nothing you can do about that anyway.

I think this the simple trend of this virtual monetary platform, though it's not a centralized currency so that the price always moving as like we have been experiencing in recent time. Basically, Bitcoin is a decentralized currency system so that the holders of Bitcoin are the main keys to this platform.

If you are really reading informations and always updated about the news regarding to crypto industry then there is nothing to worry about, it seems not normal because of the great fall but as what wisemen says, only fool rush in to sell their Bitcoin not knowing that this days is the advantage to invest all in and wait for the big bang again.  Dump and Pump.

This has been historical, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Jan's bitcoin performance were all dipping. But putting into a yearly perspective, you won't notice the dip. I would say bitcoin will come back and altcoin will continue to suffer until Feb.

Droping of bitcoin value is not a big deal, last year this big drop is also happen but you can see that its value is increase again in a gery high value. This drop of value is cause of some factors like banning of it in some countries, and because of this drop some investors are doing panic selling thats why its price is continuing to decrease.
Just hold and stay calm, trust btc and have faith. It will increase again.

Well big companies are pulling out not because of it's falling price but because of it's ridiculous high fees this maybe one the primary reason why google and steam change they're mind into accepting bitcoin as a payment and this may also be a hindrance for the future of bitcoin. Unless the devs finally put an solution and implement the lightning network. Surely bitcoin will surpass this challenge again and prove why it's the number currency.

I think it's possible to see this as a temporary decline as something similar happened last time with the China FUD.

Right after the entire thing slowed down, the market rose up like crazy and went pretty much exponential. The only issue I see here though is that it's possible that an altcoin takes over from here -- the markets have been doing well in the past and it seems like people are putting their money into alts instead of bitcoin itself. The issue arises with these altcoins which can potentially ruin the success of BTC.

This is not be easy for most of the people. but, in a long run for BTC there is nothing to be worry about. Unless you need the the money right away otherwise just wait it out.

It is true that now bitcoin price is low. i think bitcoin price will be high in the year 2018. the decline in the value of bitcoin now is very bad. i think it will overcome very soon. I don't think there is something to worry about. but we need to patience.

yes, I agree with this but many people especially new people in bitcoin don't know this and they attract another fall and like we see now, the price is down too far from many people expecting but I am sure that bitcoin will survive and will increase back after this big fall. but I see that many people get trapped into the high price so they cannot buy the bitcoin while the price is down because this moment won't be the same in the future.

At that time I wrote somewhere that "TOO FAST TOO FURIOUS" and now we can see the furious thing. I always said that steady growth is much better.

Yup. Traders usually strengthen themselves when such kind of crises come through. This dump and pump is normal for each traders. But if you are a beginner, its bit hard to accept and this is the reason so many leave trading or sell / exchange what they earned. This is the reason behind this decline. South Korea's ban on traders became a hot spoke topic amongst crypto community. It needs changes in short while. This would surely happen in a month time.

About the news related to Korea its not actually true which its just really a FUD which have been give effects into the market not totally the main reason but its one of the factor of such dip of prices. These kind of situation are really common among traders which do have already an experience.Instead of panicking on sudden decline some would see this as an opportunity to baghold bitcoin and other altcoins in the market.

The price of the bitcoin last december is 20k dollars already but it will decrease fast because many people sell their bitcoin because they want to earn big profit.  And it will down to 13k dollars but as of noa the price is 10,800 dollars  and for sure it will increase again and for sure after hours it will bavka agin at 13k dollars like weeks ago.  I hope I will see again 20k dollars next month.

It was normally happen because not all crypto currencies are raising up equally, moreover bitcoin are largely dropping down due to exaggerated news that some countries banned bitcoin. However until now there are no clearly evidence or proof that this information is true, I think I believe on that if theres a blog or article shows regarding on that.

Exactly! the market value of bitcoin kept on decreasing the past as well but this done not mean that this is the end of bitcoin or investing in bitcoin is not that much worthy right now. This is just a temporary phase and this will be over very soon.

We cannot predict the market value of any of the coin. The market value of bitcoin is little now but this will not last longer and soon it has already started raising as speculated by many veteran members of this forum. We can be sure that bitcoin price will reach 0.1 million dollars very soon.

You are definitely true regarding on this matter which cryptocurrencies is way too unpredictable which means we cant really tell on where do those prices go overtime. It can crash in a matter of minutes and suddenly pumped out on an hours.These kind of scenarios are common that's why as a trader or investor we should really know how to ride on the waves for us to make profits on those such movements. Remember what happened when China backed off? Dump from 5000 to 3000 in a few days.
Afterwards, it gained back to 4500 in a day only, stabilized near 4200 once again.
Value started gaining gradually since then and went to $20k that was probably decided to be the ATH of 2017.
After that, there came South Korea who decided to -
1st - Regulate Cryptocurrencies.
2nd - Bang, game's over. BAN.

They played it very hard over newer investors who just started to jump over the train, but as usual, it all seems to me as the same thing going to happen once again this time. If it follows the previous year's pattern and kicks it off on the face of Korea, then just think where will BTC go this year alone. My target is placed above $50k.

Supply and demand can be change the price in market but in this case i think bitcoin fall caused rumors and negative news in the several country.
Some country rejected cryptocurrency as a payment gateway like transaction and investment. All cryptocurrency going down, its give a big punch for investor and trader in market crypto.

It is happened becasue in December of 2017 people were celebrating Christmas and happy new year, that's why people convert bitcoin into their currency and i think so it was a reason for bitcoin price down. Otherwise now bitcoin has turn to going to up and in March i hope so bitcoin definitely come up and it will give us good price. 

That was the reason for the fall of bitcoin price in December but now it is happened due to the rumors of banning all over the countries but it is really fake no countries banned crypto currency(China and Korea) they are just regulating it by the appropriate tax implementations.But now the price os going up and bitcoin is still the most expensive crypto.
The price bump and dump always happens with all the crypto currencies so we can't say that coin is going to dead.You can see that the price is now jumped from $9000 to $12000 in some hours.So we have to be patient while the price is dumping.

There are lots of rumours and negative news about the bitcoin( and cryptocurrencies ) around the world in the main stream media. And the total crypto-market is very much rumour sensitive you can see the negative effect immediately each time when there is a rumours around.Now in the recent past lots of new comers have invested in the market and when the BTC price was dropping naturally rumours created panic among them and to minimize the loss lot of them ended up selling their btc. I think this is the main reason of this price fall.

Bitcoin prices usually take a hit around January. Turnaround should be on Feb and Mar.
Another reason might be the rise of the altcoins that are technologically advanced than bitcoin.

Until Lightning Network is implemented along with Segwit, the fees will still be too high and txns take a long time to confirm. This will dampen some scaling of use as other users will opt for faster alternatives.

In my sight first quarter of the year is a huge trial to bitcoiner, we need concrete decision to make our self satisfy on what decision they did. I guess dropping down of cryptos value was part of bitcoin strategies to encourage more and high numbers of whales. I think bitcoin price was raising up in the near future that's why bitcoin community were ready for that because for now they collecting a lot of funds as preparation to their come back.

Exactly! Since past few days, the market value of bitcoin is little disappointing for the ones who are there in the world of bitcoin and are having some bitcoins in their wallets. The decline may be temporary and may recover to some extent. But if countries start banning the cypto currencies it also means that millions people from that country who use to trade are now away from this market. So demand will fall drastically. So we will have more supply than demand which means the price may not rise at a quick pace unless some major countries make it legal in their country and citizens of those countries come in the market to trade or invest.

In my own thinking that this all happen now of dumping the price value of bitcoin from 20$ to 13 $  due to big impact of banning bitcoin in south  korea,and mostly we have big impact of panic selling of all koreans investor to selling all there bitcoin and altcoins asset,to escaping the dumping of value price.its natural for the price value of bitcoin to dump and pump because this its means a stability of  price value in exchange market,but this happen now of dumping the value into 13$ is a big effect to the digital currency world ,but i still believe that it will recover soon and all this current situation will finding a remedy and all will back to normal.

Today 1BTC~8500$ its a big dump for this year. What happen to the BTC? Other says that this is part of crypto every 1st quarter of the year to crypto currency rate is decreasing. Well Bitcoin is similar to currency base coins. Sometimes the market value of a coin could be drop and sometimes it could get a high value. It depends on the economy of the country. So in bitcoin I think the reason for dropping its value is due to some companies who are selling or making profits out of bitcoins. As for now, the bitcoin value is low it could be the best time to invest bitcoin. Nonetheless bitcoin could be base to the economy law of demand and supply. Meaning to say later on there will be a high demand for bitcoin and the value of bitcoin will be high. So I guess this is the good time of investing bitcoin to the market and sell thema later on when the demand is high.

Temporarily Market Correction.  Bitcoin shot up in December fairly quickly (actually for most of 2017).  A lot of FUD lately, but it will bounce back!!!

yes, it is just temporary conditions and we are going to increase again but I realize that the price is down too far than everybody expecting and many people become stressed out to see the price. I cannot imagine what I will do if somehow I buy bitcoin at the high price and suddenly the price is down like now but I am sure that the price will bounce back and it is only a matter of time to see the price reach the high price again in this year, so it's better to prepare for this.

Hopefully the decline in bitcoin prices is only temporary due to a very drastic decline makes me a little disappointed .. because I always hold on when the price decreases steadily because I think it will rise again .. but whatever the reason and whatever happens I will still hold it waiting for the price to rise again and i optomis.

Yeah, it is temporary becasue of many reasons, now in December of 2017, bitcoin price was down becasue people want to celebrate the events and now in this time bitcoin price is down becasue India has announced some troubling with bitcoin that's why still bitcoin price is down but coming soon, you will see bitcoin time will be changed and once again we will see bitcoin price in a highest pump.

The bitcoin price form 20K down to 13K is little bit worried but the rate ups and downs are normal but the huge gap will impact in bitcoin performance and the confidence level of the product. But I am very much confident that nothing is out of control instead of more greedy we should book the profit then we can sustain.

Last year in november when bitcoin touched the $10k mark, people went crazy about the existence of the bitcoin and now when it is around $8k, people are saying that it has declined. Yes, bitcoin has declined but still it is the top most crypto currency of the time. In First and third quarters the banking systems introduce a lot of stocks so that’s understandable why people are taking out their money from the crypto currency.

Well this decline was somehow predictable because it has risen really quick and btc needed a correction. Besides this there were too many FUD going on and I guess that this decline will rise.
