Title: Do we ALWAYS have FUD on the 2nd-3rd weeks of January??
Post by: Enjel on January 17, 2018, 12:39:26 PM
I have been in crypto since 2016, but I never went message boards (BTCtalk, Reddit, etc.) until late 2017.

I have a question:

Given that we have seen January (2nd and 3rd weeks) dips happen always in the history of crypto, do we still get so much FUD and panic, even when it is fully expected that a dip would happen?

Do we always have this useless and totally made up "TA" telling us that Bitcoin will crash to nothing?

Even when Bitcoin dropped 90%, it went up 10000% a few years later - what other investment can give you that return? Not too many.

HODL

Well, it usually goes like this.  ATH then drops as little as 10% and FUD starts with Bitcoin is Dead again.  Never ending cycle.

It is true that if you look at a bit of bitcoin a few years ago, what is happening today is similar to what happened before in December and January range. In December 2014 - January 2015 bitcoin declined by 61%, in December 2015 - January 2016 bitcoin declined 26%, In December 2016 - January 2017 bitcoin declined by 35% and currently, since December 2017 - now, bitcoin has decreased by 43%. This is a routine correction every year. Stop panic and keep HOLD !!!

These can be great buying opportunities.  You can dollar cost average your way into larger positions.

Pretty much. See the following article:

https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@budz82/coincidence-multi-year-bitcoin-crash-pattern-like-clockwork-btc-has-crashed-25-35-for-4-years-in-a-row-23-24-days-before-chinese

He's got four graphs in there showing a crash just before the Chinese New Year, when the Chinese miners sell their coins to do their final year end books and pay their taxes. (Their new financial year starts on the Chinese New Year).

I've no idea why they don't space out the sells over the year instead of the last minute, but there you have it!

FUD was here, is here and will stay here
forever
i can't even imagine bitcointalk forum without fudders, is like a mojito without jerba buena or a pizza without basil: you can have it but do they taste the same?

I'm not familiar with the China ban, but is this still going on though? How many Chinese miners are there left..?

I understand that the financial new year being on Chinese New Year happens in more than just China, though.

Yes, but this year is more intense, due to Wall Street interference.

if the dip is expected, that is when the FUD is at its highest rate because everyone is doing it. for example right after a long rally where a correction is expected.

as for January it is funny since i posted this yesterday for the past 4 years:

who knows why, maybe it is the Lunar New Year, maybe it is just the other new year (being in January that is), maybe just coincidence.
i wouldn't put too much faith in patterns like that but it is good to know what they are.

There is FUD all year long, all the time. That is why I'm not sure if these FUDs are totally responsible for the big drop in price we are seeing at this moment, even with fake news going on and Chinese bans, BTC showed strength last year and overcome spectatives, now this, below $10.000 already...
