Post by: superduh on August 20, 2013, 12:33:59 AM
so @50gh*20 shares = 1 TH
that means you are going to get the other TH
4.5*20 = 90btc
90btc * let's say 105 *2 = $18900

this means you are getting your shares for about half as much as other people in your groupbuy
however, you are charging only 3% fee for everything

Damn, BTC4.5 is out of my range, any possibilities of lowering that on future miners?

Too early to call as of now, we'll see if this catches interest or not.. hopefully it does  :D

@waldohoover:  I'm in on your KNCMiner group buy, and I'm interested in this as well.  I'm done with trying to buy my own hardware, power it, put up with the noise, heat, etc....

I 100% understand and see the logic of 4.5BTC to ensure group buy members get a decent chunk of hashing power to make this worthwhile investment...I'll mull it over in a few days and get back to you.

Thanks!

Isn't the Terra Miner IV warranty only 90 days per their agreement? You listed it here as 12-months...  ???

I'd definitely be interested in 10x greater shares/less hash

I Do like your group buys, but I am a little concerned with the price, as in https://btct.co/security/PETA-MINE is offering 10gh for 0.65 BTC so 3.25BTC for 50gh/s + a price protection.

Also the purchase only costs $14,000 @ $100 per BTC thats only 140BTC (This equates to 3.5btc per share) then ontop of this you are charging hosting fees @ 3%, right now 1BTC is worth $130 so one unit really only costs ~110BTC

So every share you sell you pocket at least 1BTC(or More) + your 3% hosting fee.
I apologise for the negitivity but I don't see this as a good deal!

Did you see this article? http://www.coindesk.com/cointerra-cuts-price-of-terraminer-iv-bitcoin-mining-rig/

Would you think of cutting the price at all now that BTC is higher than when you started and Cointerra has lowered their price?

Ignore me, redmetal already asked the questions.

Ignore me, redmetal already asked the questions.

A great deal yesterday is a terrible today because of the rise of USD/BTC. Pitchforks. Everywhere.

Price needs to sit for 7+ days before I consider it "stable"- it spiked how many days ago? Exactly. Don't be so eager to save a buck because of a spike. On top of that, I'm more than fine with keeping the last 5 4 shares to myself. It's paid for already anyway.  8)

My question isn’t really about the correlation of BTC and USD, if it was it would be more sever.
My question relates to BTC being worth $100 USD and the price of the unit at $14,000 USD. You are effectively either skimming 200gh/s for yourself as stated(& 22BTC), for free! Or taking a cut of 1BTC per 50gh/s sold(40BTC).  As in your 2TH costs 14k but you are collecting 180BTC.
If I was to correlate this with current prices (BTC/USD) you are trimming off 70BTC for this unit.

Would you consider dropping the BTC price, in line with the reduction of the unit Prices? Ie. 14k USD  ~140BTC(Based on a solid $100 per BTC) or 3.5BTC per share?

Soo, you are gathering 225 BTC (Currently ~29800 USD) to buy a 13999 USD Miner and add 3% Fee?
Nice.
NOT.

(Not to pi** you off, but to help all those unwilling/-able to calculate-there seem to be a lot of those on this forum)

No disrespect meant, I was simply curious as to whether you would lower the price or not. As someone who's bought into your two previous group buys, you have gone above and beyond expectations on keeping us informed of everything you do, and that's quite nice to see  :)

My offer is 4.5BTC for 50GH/s- it's that simple! If someone is offering a better deal, then go freaking buy it! Why come in here to troll or try to "sway" future purchases away or try to convince them that their investment somewhere else may save them $19.

All profits are going towards a custom server room that I am building and again, profits will go wherever I see fit to make all of my GBs successful. Parts, labor, upgrades, security, maintenance, my time and effort. Anywhere. I would love to see someone (or a team) putting as much effort as I am to make this all work smooth. I'm not sure anyone else made a dedicated site to help share holders (other than to sell more). Has anyone else created estimated calculators for their GB? Newsletters? Twitter feeds? Upgrading/creating a whole new server room? New security upgrades with live feeds?

“Parts, labor, upgrades, security, maintenance, my time and effort” was the answer I was looking for, simple answer to a simple question!
Yet you felt it necessary to call me a troll? I am only trying to be informed before purchasing from you, this in its self doesn’t instil confidence from a buyer’s perspective,

Remind me next time to just send people money without asking questions! What a fantastic idea.

As I’ve said before I generally like your group buys and wish you all the best for this one

Regards,
RedMetal

If someone can match a half share, i'd be more than happy :)  (Or I can just pop you half coins?)

PS: CryptX is too much a troll for me, better get to some safer owner despite a bit higher BTC/GH

I'd be pretty sour if it didnt. D: Btw, if we ever feel like pulling out before the order is placed, can we do that? I probably should've asked that BEFORE buying the shares, but oh well. o.o

In 2 case I will consider a pull-out:
1: there are no progress in funding and we have a big chance to get in batch not 1
2: there are better funding options for cointerra owned by non-troller and experienced people which is almost mature

By the way, how much would it cost? Is is a flat rate like 0.01BTC or things like 0.5%??

Minor issue:

I (waldohoover) take no responsibility for the possibility that HashFast does not deliver. I (waldohoover) have done what I consider a thorough due diligence but as we all know, you can never 100% guarantee anything when it comes to pre-orders.

PS: For me I am asking for if a refund in BTC is possible and the cost of it instead of transfer of shares, i dont know if the guy above me is asking that too, seems to.

If i would like to "sell my share now" or change the ownership of my share, to make it clear, a sell-back of shares to you. Is it free or lower cost like 0.5%, since you havent done anyaction that cost like paying the bills and exchanging the coins. Or will it be the same 3%.

He must be one crazy man!  ;D My strategy is really to just cover costs in case of a +/- $10 spike. Depending on what the actual price is when I pay for Miner #2, I may refund some more BTC  8) I would rather just be safe than sorry, that's why price is above his.. whatever his price may be.

That's really cool?

I have to ask now, why are you even in my GB?  ???
Coz I saw your post first and it is too late when I saw soniq's. Anyway, you have an advantage of location so I guess I will stay here for the current situation where both here and soniq's are far from fully funded.

Using the current Bitstamp price 130, the miner is priced at 14000USD+3% tax + 100USD shipping= 14500USD->111.53BTC->1.39 per share

Electricity and your "room" etc expensis are counted toward management fee and deducted from the profit I assume

WIth this price we can dip down to 90USD and be safe. And I agree with you, better safe than sorry :) . Grab your share guys

Just some self-advertisement: if any of you guys got a USB block eruptors, with the glossy surface (or in other word, polished metal) styled one, sell it to me after you're done hashing with it (in which it is no longer profitable). I would like to buy 1 for decoration.

Hey Waldo,

When both miners will be in your hand?

As mentioned in http://cointerra.com/ December, there will be compensation from CoinTerra if they are late

Quote
When will your products ship?
The GS1 chips and products are expected to ship in December 2013.

Quote
Price Protection
For any undelivered orders in Batch 1, if CoinTerra changes the price of TerraMiner systems or GoldStrike1 ASICs before delivery, CoinTerra will re-price all orders and offer either a cash refund or a larger and more valuable hash power credit

Quote
What is my protection against late delivery of the product?
Chances are slim, but if we do not deliver your confirmed December delivery within 30 days of our promise, we will credit your account 20% of the hash power.

No clue, but I'm pretty sure there are plenty. When I paid for the first miner I was verifying with Cointerra that I would be in Batch #1 orders and they replied stating that most likely they will have enough to fulfill until December.

And in the #2 order, you saved 0.5BTC per share becoz the Bitcoin price is relatively higher! You literally saved extra 1.5BTC from your pocket, thats almost enough for you to grab an extra share!

Sorry to ask,

What delivery time can we expect in hashfast and cointerra?

I am trying to determine what can be the best buy for my next share.

All the best

Moreover waldohoover is close to CoinTerra, that means that the delivery time must be very short :)

The coin price went up and thus less is needed for a miner, in which the bills is paid in Fiat

Excellent 8) Tho that brings up the following questions.

1) I still see that there are 9 shares to buy, and the topic is labeled [OPEN]. If the miner's already been paid for, what would a newcomer's money be used for?

2) Why not just keep it at 71 shares? That way the value of all of our shares is increased ;)

In case of non-delivery:

  • I (waldohoover) take no responsibility for the possibility that Cointerra does not deliver. I (waldohoover) have done what I consider a thorough due diligence but as we all know, you can never 100% guarantee anything when it comes to pre-orders.
  • Refunds will be given in case of non-delivery less 5% for management of the Group Buy.
  • This group buy will be refunded if the miners are not delivered- share holders can elect to wait further.

Question Waldo ??? did you make a change to the non-delivery fee ??? it say 5% ? If I remember correctly it was 3% ? when did you make this change and why weren't the share holders NOT informed ??? Also In the case that Cointerra does not deliver before dec 31 will you be issuing refunds?
Thank you

Dear CoinTerra customer,

As a First Batch customer with an order for one or more TerraMiners initially scheduled for a late-December delivery we are reaching out to you since you are one of the remaining customers that we have been unsuccessful in contacting by telephone via the number associated with your cointerra.com account.

We are pleased to say that we are now very close to manufacturing our first units, but if you have been following our engineering updates on our website you may be aware that our late-December orders have slipped into the New Year.

Your order will enter manufacturing shortly, and will be one of the very first TerraMiners to leave our production facility - we currently expect your order to ship in the first two weeks of January.

As a thank you for being an early customer and supporting us as we worked to bring the TerraMiner to market, for each TerraMiner that you have ordered in the First Batch we would also like to send you an additional TerraMiner of equal hash rate from our March batch free of charge (including free shipping.)  This means that if you have a First Batch order for one TerraMiner IV 2TH Bitcoin miner you will receive your miner in January and you will also receive a TerraMiner IV 2TH Bitcoin miner in March.

We will send a confirmation of your order, updated to include the additional free of charge TerraMiner within 24 hours.  However, if you would prefer to receive a full refund of your order purchase price in USD instead of taking us up on the offer, or if you have any further questions regarding your order then please can contact us at [redacted] and we will be happy to accommodate you.

Best regards and a Happy New Year!

Extra miner is a gift, which Cointerra gives us, shareholders "for free" - as a way of compensation for our lost profits.
We would be really suckers - not taking it. (in any case - money from ebay is better than nothing)

Update! Just received the following email from Cointerra:

Quote
Dear First Batch Customer,

Today you will be receiving (or may have already received) an email from us regarding a new order confirmation with a new Order ID. As we have now shipped our very first units to customers and are ramping up to volume production over the next few days, we needed to make some administrative changes to our back-end systems so that we could correctly process your original order in preparation for shipping.

We moved the "thank you" TerraMiner IV (from the March batch) from your original order into a new, separate order.

You should receive an email over the next few days (depending on your place in the order queue) with tracking information (if you have selected shipping) or collection information (if you are collecting from the facility in central Texas.)

Thank you for your continued support.

Team CoinTerra

Question waldo?
they also said we will get 15% discount for the first batch orders, if that true will we get first dibs on it ??? :)

I'm not sure what you're talking about?

"January and February batch retail customers may choose one of the following two options:

1.  For January or February batch retail customers who wish to receive their TerraMiner order in the currently-shipping specification we will offer a 15% discount coupon* redeemable against their next retail hardware order placed at the CoinTerra website store.  If a January or February batch retail customer chooses to accept their order as-is they will automatically receive this coupon.

2. We understand that some January or February batch customers may wish to request a refund, in which case we will offer a full refund of US dollars received for their order. Customers wishing to request a refund should contact support@cointerra.com with their unique order ID. For those customers who choose the refund option we would like to extend the offer of a 5% discount coupon* redeemable against their next retail hardware order placed at the CoinTerra website store.

For our March and later batch customers we will of course assess the situation before shipping and in the meantime we shall continue to work on resolving the remaining power efficiency issues. We also have some exciting announcements lined up for the near future which we hope to share with you soon!"

Sincerely,
Team CoinTerra

I really hope that is just an update fail, and the units were actually shipped.  I was starting to think that we would never see any return from this.  Also, disregard the PM I sent you Waldo.  I see that there hasn't really been a decision about what to do with the extra machines when they come in.

BTW, I do not envy your position  :P .  Sorry to see all the hostility toward you in the Hashfast thread.  I think some people don't exactly understand what a group buy means.

Alright everyone.

So it took me about an hour or so to get these guys actually up and running.

Out of the box they weren't turning on for whatever reason but later was able to get both machines to boot and recognize both boards on each machine after a few tips on powering them up.

These guys are eating a TON of electricity ~2900W EACH- and I have not seen either miner hash over 1.5TH/s. And these guys are LOUD. Like hair dryers on full blast-loud.

I have been working with Luke from Cointerra as of yesterday to solve the problems - he currently has our Log files for both miners and has his team analyzing the numbers.

Looking at the stats this morning- it looks like the boards on the TerraMiners are dying/turning off - I have restarted the miners to which it looks like they pick up.. but obviously something is wrong/not set correctly.

I've been adjusting any settings that are available to little luck.. but this is somewhat expected on a brand new machine with it's first firmware.

I will be working all this week with Cointerra to tweak/maximize our results from these TerraMiners - hopefully new firmwares roll out and CT are able to get us the #s we want.

Few more pics from the setup:

Awesome!!

I wouldn't worry about the issues too much.  At least not yet.  When I first received my Avalon (batch 2), I was only managing to get it to ~60 GH\s, and I was having a lot of trouble keeping it cool even at that point.  Over the course of a few weeks, and without ANY physical changes (no new fans, didn't add any thermal paste), I eventually got it to where it is still sitting today, which is ~77-80 GH\s, and no heating problems at all.  I helped reproduce the same results for a friend who had 10 of the machines.

I'm not sure how these are setup, but just keep tweaking the settings, and you should get them there.

On a side note, are they using cgminer?  If so, make sure they have the latest version, and watch for updates (true of any mining program I guess).  The biggest jump in performance for mine was between versions of cgminer, as it became more optimized for specific ASICs.

"CoinTerra was hoping that its TerraMiner IV rigs would hit 2TH/s, but production units are actually running at 1.63TH/s to 1.72TH/s. The power draw is between 1900W and 2100W, substantially higher than the 1650W the company predicted.

In other words, the rigs are about 20% slower and consume 20% more power than promised."

http://www.coindesk.com/cointerra-performance-issues-security-breach/

It seems the power consumption should be more less around 2kW.
Anyway, I thought Cointerra repeat KNC success: hashrate over 2T
Now I think it's impossible with future software releases...

I think this has to be a mistake, as the fee is suppose to be 3%.  If the fee is suppose to be 3% + electricity on top of that, then 0.04-0.05 would be the correct area for fees (depending on electricity costs, and how much cooling is needed).  It looks like a decimal is in the wrong spot somewhere.

So at ~2900W 24/7 @ 31cents kw we're at about ~$620/month just to power 1 TerraMiner.

So each bi-weekly payout, each miner will have a ~$300 fee (Again, this is literally what is required to power the unit each month). *Note this comes out to about a 5/6% fee instead of the original 3%.

BTC0.5 out of BTC1.305 is not a 5/6% fee, it's a 36% fee.
And it says here it's ~$300 for 2 weeks, and the miner was working for one week so that should be ~$150, not $280

Also I paid BTC4.5 for 50GH of mining, NOT for a percentage of the unit. (Yes i paid the original asking price of BTC4.5 before you dropped the price) I paid for 50GH with a 3% fee and I'm getting 40GH/s at 10x the advertised fee.....

If the difficulty goes up at the current rate and if BTC/USD goes down much more are you going to ask us to pay you for the electricity bill?
Can you provide proof you pay 31 cents per kw/h? Seems expensive.

Sadly, it's not a mistake.  :-\

I'm doing payouts the same as I have been doing my KnCMiners - basically my only fee is electricity since the initial 3% fee won't 'cover it. (Why? Cointerra promised one thing [power consumption], delivered another, just like KnC)

Miner no. 2:

one week mining: 1.38932488 btc
one week power: 151$ =  ~0.26 btc (bitstamp: 575$/btc)

profit: 1.39 - 0.26 = ~1.13 btc
profit - your 3% profit: 1.13 * 0.97 = ~1.09btc

For 40 shares - I should have ~0,548 btc, and I have only ~0.444 btc...

Waldo, could you explain this difference, please (who has made a mistake: you or me)

First, I apologize to everyone for my not perfect English, but I think what I am going to write will be understood ...

dear Waldo and other members of the GB,
I'm sorry to write in these terms, but I want to be direct and honest ... but really do not understand three things:

1) the first, as it is possible that the OUR miner consumption is 2900 W at wall outlet? it is practically impossible at electrical and electronics level,
all users who have read here and on the forums Cointerra to declare a maximum of 2,000 w to 1.62 Ths (a user even w 1800) ... it is virtually impossible that we consume so much with two PSU 1100 W (two PFE1100, maximum 2200 2300W off-specification limit, see the links at the end of post).

http://Forum.cointerra.com/threads/post-your-terraminer-iv-results-stats.385 /

http://Forum.cointerra.com/threads/how-many-watts-does-the-2th-use.186 /

2) regarding the cost of electricity, considering you're in the state of California, and you should (and here I use the conditional) you should use a contract mall, I think 0.20 cents per KWh is definitely more correct of 0.30 indicated ( I do not want to tell you that you are not correct, I just want to point this thing ..)

then according to my calculations (assuming realistically 2 kWh x 0.20 x 24 h we have a consumption of about 9.6 dollars a day, which are $ 288 a month ... I would like to understand why the X2 spending on electricity. waldo .. ... please , Can ypu clarify this crucial point, or all of us ?)

as regards the value of each share now we have a fact that have been undersized from 25Ghs to 20Ghs, but we know on that, at this point there is nothing to do .....

I hope to get some answers from you Waldo, especially on the issue of the absurd consumption of ns. Terraminer  ......

from http://cointerra.com/faq/

"What is the specification of the power supplies in the TerraMiner?

The TerraMiner Has Two Power-One 80 PLUS certified "Platinum" efficiency power supplies. They have a wide input voltage range of 90-264 VAC. The normal operational range is 100v to 240v, I know it will work at all on the standard voltages around the world (110v, 120v, 220v, 230v and 240v). The datasheet for the power supplies can be found here. "...

http://www.power-one.com/sites/power-one.com/files/documents/power/datasheet/bcd.00012_ai_pfe1100-12-054xa.pdf

3) Waldo then a third point, very importantly, continue to refer to + 30% as if it were reportedly scheduled to consumption of 2100 W, but I want to make you see that means that it is more by 30% compared to 1600 W (! (and therefore a total 2000 w 2100 w NOT an absurd 2900W)

from the site of Cointerra Dateline 21/01/2014

"Our production lines are assembling units and we have Stumbleupon for certification simultaneously. The production units That We have assembled and tested so far are running at between 1.63TH / s and 1.72TH / s with power draw at the wall between 1900W and 2100W - Typically 20% higher than our anticipated target of 1650W but still sufficient to operate in a typical U.S. home (110V) plugged into two outlets on separate circuits 15A, or in a typical European home (230V) on a single circuit. "

bye,
#bit_p

Yes the amount taken out of the first 8 days seems high, it's unfortunate that the price of BTC during payouts was ~$511 (check for yourself) and it was NOT the current $575 (so please stop acting like it was).

OK, Waldo, first thing, correction is coming:

Miner no. 2:
one week mining: 1.38932488 btc
one week + one day (??) power: 172$ =  ~0.338 btc (511$/btc)

profit: 1.39 - 0.338 = ~1.051 btc
profit - your 3% profit: 1.051 * 0.97 = ~1.02btc

For 40 shares - I should have ~0,51 btc, and I have only ~0.444 btc...

So, it seems you could still explain, who has made a mistake: you or me...

Second thing:

Everyone says, that Terraminer draws about 2kW power, and you are trying to convince that these particular you have received - suddenly draw 150% of every normal Terraminer. So I decided to ask Soniq (from other Cointerra GB), and let's see how he answered:

"Me: Soniq, do you know power consumption of Terraminer #1?
Soniq: 8.5 amps"
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=278460.msg5422641#msg5422641

P = U * I = 230V * 8.5A = 1955 VA (actually: Watt)

Tell us, why Soniq lies in such matter...

Third thing:

http://www.eia.gov/electricity/monthly/epm_table_grapher.cfm?t=epmt_5_6_a
33.69 cents/kWh is Hawaii price - so please confirm here that our Terraminers are placed in Hawaii.

here you have Sy from Germany 0,253€/KWh (0,329 $/kWh) - and he probably won this small world
competition for most expensive energy. (you are trying to convince us, that US citizens have more expensive
energy than EU citizens)
https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=4300.msg30129#msg30129

Proof of my kwh rate has already been proven in my KnCMiner thread- I can try to dig it up again

Yes, in such circumstances please do it again...
And maybe it's a really good time for change your energy provider, maybe for even two times cheaper, who knows...
(I'm very surprised you didn't change most expensive US energy provider until now)

So, in such circumstances - maybe a little bit closer to the truth is such calculation below:

Miner no. 2:
one week mining: 1.38932488 btc
one week power: 2kW * 24h * 7d * 0,20$ = 67$ =  ~0.131 btc (511$/btc)

profit: 1.39 - 0.131 = 1.257 btc
profit - your 3% profit: 1.257 * 0.97 = 1.22btc

For 40 shares, maybe ~0.61 btc, not ~0.444 btc...

So please stop acting like it was, if you really care about your reputation on BitcoinTalk.org

You are not the only one impacted by Cointerra late delivery. Not the only - disappointed by small profits.
You could propose flat rate (not 3%) at the beginning - just to avoid such falling profits

P.S. sorry for my "english"

Ok, you're mad at me because Cointerra underdelivered? - its out of my hands, dude. They are working on firmwares to fix this. You are getting an EVEN percentage like everyone else.

3% fee was assumed due to the CLAIMED power consumption that Cointerra stated. They are using over 30% of what they claimed to draw. Fees need to be adjusted to suite that.

Yes the amount taken out of the first 8 days seems high, it's unfortunate that the price of BTC during payouts was ~$511 (check for yourself) and it was NOT the current $575 (so please stop acting like it was).

I'll adjust next weeks fees to reflect any overpaid fee on the first week.

Proof of my kwh rate has already been proven in my KnCMiner thread- I can try to dig it up again, but like I stated, I've already proven it and posted it online.

That answers everything.

Again, there is no 3% fee- the ONLY fee is electricity to keep the miners on - everything else is free.

No, Dude. You advertised 50GH/s with a 3% hosting fee.
At no point did you say, 'plus electricity fees at the current USD rate'

The technical specs on cointerra website say Nominal power consumption is 1650W, and that it's supplied with 2 x 1100W PSU's, so how the freaking hell can it possibly be drawing 2900W ??

Revilo, I'm sure if the Terraminer would in reality 2.2TH - you will ask about your 55 GH/s, not 50 GH/s.
So don't insist for this matter - there are others mentioned, more important.

Hopefully this explains a bit to answer the above:

- Next payout I will be subtracting ฿.1 ($50)/miner in fees to address the overpay in fees from this week. This means your next dividend payout will have the BTC that was missed on the first round.

- .30c @ 24/7 still, has about $300 in fees per bi-weekly payout per miner. That is literally what it costs to run the machine.. not including cooling and maintenance.

I know that is not ideal, obviously. We're hashing at 25% less than what we should be and using a crazy amount of power. All we can do at this point is wait for firmwares from Cointerra.

Cheers
WH
Dear waldo , i guess it's best if you get another power meter.
from my previous experience with server PSUs , they have something called PMU , which is abbreviated for Power Management Unit .
PSUs can work in active-active/active-passive , they can work in 20% - 90% capacity and so on.
so measuring one PSU and assuming that it consumes twice the amount can be wrong .
and the reason to do so is that , usually PSUs yield better efficiency in loads greater than 70%.

No, Dude. You advertised 50GH/s with a 3% hosting fee.
At no point did you say, 'plus electricity fees at the current USD rate'

Revilo, I'm sure if the Terraminer would in reality 2.2TH - you will ask about your 55 GH/s, not 50 GH/s.
So don't insist for this matter - there are others mentioned, more important.

Wrong, I paid for 50GH/s, I expect 50GH/s.

See for all KNCminer shareholders, when Jupiter hashrate was much bigger than announced earlier.
Yes, you would stay stable as rock at first, low hashrate - while rest of shareholders is sharing the extra hashrate gift from KNC.

If everyone else in the world measures Terraminer and gets only ~2kW - the quite probable explanation,
that your kill-a-watt works improperly. Could you have some multimeter for a while
(e.g. http://img.directindustry.com/images_di/photo-g/analog-power-meters-5231-5940213.jpg

1390W and 120V (US standard) - it gives ~11,58A for one circuit,
Check current value - you should have rather something similar to Soniq 8,5A...

If not - we have some really crappy Terraminers, and I think this should be documented
and send to Cointerra - just to receive yet another recompensation:
for 150% power consumption in comparision to other Terraminers.

Jesus Christ man!  Where do you live?  That power rate is insane.  My power rate is between $0.07 and $0.08 per KWH.  If I had the space, and spare power capacity, to host these, I would tell you to send them to me.

As far as rates, I'm actually looking at office/warehouse space for personal reasons but if the bill fits, I'll relocate miners to this location (which will reduce my kwh rate and your guys's fees). This is not a promise at all since like I stated this is mainly for personal/unrelated business but if I can lower the rates, that would be a win-win.
Well, the fact that almost everyone uses the same meter (and the fact that it reads fine on every other device) leads me to believe it's working fine. I do have another one on its way on to measure both PSUs simultaneously, though.

Hi, Waldo

Still are there any chances for a new location? (with lower energy rates, we hope...)
Did you measure both PSU simultaneously?

JK

I've been working with their support and it could be due to the new firmware that they have me on. The machines are quite finicky with setting adjustments- You can reboot it and it will hang, another reboot and it won't save settings etc. I've done 2 reboots today on all machines, temps are good. I may monitor the stats a bit more and compare them to the older ones. Eligius has been having some minor stats issues this week so I'm not sure if that adds to it as well.

Thanks for the update :)

Bad news! :(

It looks like TerraMiner #3 is dead.

I haven't checked the stats in about a day or so and when I did I noticed Miner #3 not mining.

Tried to log in via ssh nada, tried to log in via http nada.

Ok- manually rebooted.

No lights but PSU fires.

Swapped power cables and tried again.

Same thing- fans turn on but no LEDS or access via browser.

Swapped cables with a working miner (and swapped outlets that I was plugging into just to verify) - still nothing.

Emailing Cointerra for a support now hopefully they can give us some tips to get it working so we do not have to RMA this =\.

I will keep you guys posted once I receive a reply from CT.

Thanks for the update WH, hopefully they pay for the RMA but if not we will have to divided the cost.
THanks again :)

I wish they didn't have a sticker closing the case/lid - I want to take a look inside but that would void the warranty.

I'm hoping/assuming they will send us a prepaid shipping label from UPS, I will be demanding one anyway. This is a TON of downtime if we have to RMA it and i'm more than certain there would be no way WE would have to pay for it.

I shot the email(s) to Cointerra, just awaiting a reply for now. Will keep you guys updated.

any updates on miner #3 :)

FYI-

wizkid (Eligius pool operator) has been struggling all week with fighting a DDOS attack. Miners have been jumping around and also not showing correct data on the stats. He has stated to ignore all stats and just to verify hashing via cgminer. We're still accepting shares and bouncing between 1.3THs and 1.6THs but as far as the website and stats those will look off until wizkid is able to counter the DDOS.

btw: Do we have any failover pool configured?

It sure seems to be lately. I've been having to reboot more than regular and notice hash rates slowly drop after a couple of days. This could be the firmware from a week ago. All settings are the same and temps are good. I hope they don't pull a TerraMiner 3 and need an RMA  :-\

Could you fallback to previous firmware release?
From statistics view - current firmware is terrible...

and what about these two extra Terraminers - as gift for December orders?

During the RMA process I asked about them at they stated would be out early April (and not end of march). Just shot them an e-mail asking about it. I actually sent them an e-mail a couple of days ago regarding shotty performance from the RMA unit (which right now isn't hashing, I'm T/S now) and I have not heard back yet, so still waiting on that.

Waldo,

I think there is the best time to start strongly insist for sending you brand new #3 Terraminer then,
and you will send them "repaired", RMA'ed already item immediately after receiving new one
- cause we don't agree for such a waste of time again... (I mean: no f... way)

P.S.
And because we are waiting for two extra Terraminers,
so the condition for sending them - would be the immediate return of crappy #3,
just after receiving new #3 item, for example

I think such agreement should be OK for Cointerra.

Waldo,

I’m sure (from many experiences) that when #3 is hashing @ 50% – this means is drawning not significantly more than ~50% of power from the wall.
You can verify this with your kill-a-watt, please.

P.S.
And I think at such expensive power you have – it’s right time for selling Terraminer on ebay…
8-9 btc maybe per item is definitely better than today’s nothing from mining…
(no chances for mining these 8-9 btc already :(  )

I agree, if we sell this miner and the one we will be recieving it would definitely be in the best interest of the share holders.
Quick math:
If the 8-9 coin evaluation is correct then 2 miners should be 16 coins giving each share 0.2 coins.
And there is no way we would get that mining.

any pay outs ??? last two weeks ago it was late ...???
Waldo... we never received a payout yesterday?

Payouts are in the queue and lined up, just waiting for the auto-scrypt to execute. There's the also added .1 BTC being spread out on top of payouts as well. Should be executed by end of day.

Why was the week 6 payout for Cointerra Miner #1 only 0.13304974 BTC in total??

0.83BTC earned and 0.7BTC in fees?

Sort it out please.
Explain what exactly those fees were for.

"0.83BTC earned and 0.7BTC in fees?"

We are near from switching off Terraminers, the same as KNC Jupiter last week.
And not working equipment is not earning money, but still losing its value... - because there are little chances that bitcoin difficulty will drop

So we should a little hurry up with voting for selling or not.
Buyers with normal or low power costs (our are not normal, unfortunately) - will still profit from our Terraminers, when we are not able already.

So Cointerra announced that they will refund the Jan-Feb batch of Cointerra IV's.
I for one think that the shareholders will get more back if we refund the unit and split the refund....

Yes, hopefully!
I've been very disappointed with this whole cointerra investment :(

Meanwhile I've bought some small shares on your site in the new litecoin ASICS

One of the limiting factors in profitability and keeping miners running is energy costs, when miners are switched off because they can't earn more in coins than they cost in power then they must (presumably) be switched off.
Wouldn't it be possible to factor in a monthly buy in of some alternative energy system.
Solar Cells, Used Veg oil running in Diesel generators etc.
I imagine it might mean investors take a 5% cut to pay for it, but if it means the rigs stay mining for longer they will get their money back because the rigs will remain on for longer.
So gradually on a monthly basis bring in more and more Off Grid power, within two - 5 yrs yrs, you might be off Grid altogether.
Imagine if one day, you had zero energy costs, (aside from maintenance)

Why dont you just sell the cointerras? Like on ebay or something, then payout the profits to shareholders?

What are you doing with the CoinTerra machines?

I'm building a new colocation and trying to make space to put these in to bring them back online. We're about a week away from being fully built. I'll make a formal announcement once it's complete.

Side note- I've been attempting to fix the heat issues that some of the units have.. While they're down, I may try to replace some of the faulty pumps and do some other maintenance (Liquid Pro, thermal paste) while I'm at it. To see what I'm talking about you can catch up here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=641998.0

Nothing but issues, sadly.

Hi,
any update after a week?

Wow, we had to consider the possibility that things might not be rosy, but I wasn't expecting things to be this bad with the units.   Thanks for your efforts so far on my / our behalf anyway Waldo.

If the intention is to hope for a BTC price hike, then putting them online hashing at a lower rate now is an option.
Not sure what the electricity costs would be.
I'll make some suggestions that may or may not be popular.
Maybe if we all donated a small sum to buy a unit(s) that currently work to generate enough revenue to pay for the electricity, No idea how practical that is in terms of costs etc.
Or simply donate a small percentage of our payout to pay for the electricity to get them hashing I accept this might not be popular, I'm just trying to think outside the box.

I have 12 x 1MH Titans,   if it meant getting these these hashing even at a lower rate, what If I / We volunteered one of those units and if everyone else considered doing the same to generate enough revenue to pay for the electricity costs to get them online does something like this work as a solution and what would the figures be.

The idea being that if there is to be a jump in BTC price, we would have accrued some by then and make back our losses.
If we sit and wait for the BTC price we have to start mining then, plus we will be competing with a lot more miners scrambling to get on board.
If we try to get hashing now, we may accrue a significant amount of coins to really benefit from a price increase.
If the Titans are not as expected, what effect will this have on BTC and how can we profit from it.
One 'benefit' might be that a lot of people might jump ship meaning the difficulty may not rise as much as anticipated.
If we can get hashing now, we may be able to mine longer and benefit more from a future BTC price increase,

 :'(

Maybe we should be investing in a solar farm, to pay for our electricty costs. that way we can run miners until they fall to pieces and not have to worry about electricity costs.
Significant capital outlay of course but...we could hire out the facility for miner hosting.
