Thanks for the information. 3 to go! Title: Re: How can I become a non-Newbie? Post by: supersonic3974 on July 11, 2011, 03:03:29 PM Oh, and welcome to the forums :)

Title: Re: How can I become a non-Newbie? Post by: vforvendetta on July 11, 2011, 03:42:05 PM I don't see the problem. 5 posts, 4 hours online. Most boards require you to have at least 50 posts - the policy here is lenient (and almost futile, my personal opinion).
Title: Re: How can I become a non-Newbie? Post by: joelnet on July 12, 2011, 04:21:30 AM ^ after running a few boards i agree.
though of course it's only a problem when there is a specific thread you want to get into NOW, but have been lurking forever. haha ;) Title: Re: How can I become a non-Newbie? Post by: zeebest001 on July 12, 2011, 03:40:43 PM does this count as a post?
Title: Re: How can I become a non-Newbie? Post by: Wolenber on July 12, 2011, 03:50:24 PM Every post counts as a post. All posts were created equal.
Title: Re: How can I become a non-Newbie? Post by: Twitcher on July 12, 2011, 04:09:13 PM As I see it, the problem is that requiring people to have a minimum number of posts for entry into the forum does nothing except for causing people to spam the "newbie" boards (and what a welcome that board name is). It doesn't prove a minimum level of understanding of Bitcoins, or require nuanced discussion, or anything else - in fact, nuanced discussion tends to be *discouraged*, because there's better places on the boards for that where the "newbies" can't participate.
Cue a hyperactive board, filled with lots of very quick posts because everyone is trying to get their postcount up so they can participate in real discussions. People who *don't* pass that barrier don't enter the boards; so in fact minimum post counts to get past the newbie board promote board-spammers over lurkers who might post far less often. I can see the point behind require a minimum number of hours, but minimum number of posts on a mixed-topic board has to be counter-productive. It doesn't do anything to promote real discussion or a welcoming community unless moderation is actively enforced. Title: Re: How can I become a non-Newbie? Post by: Twitcher on July 12, 2011, 04:10:50 PM And with this and my next "all-posts-are-equal" posts...
Title: Re: How can I become a non-Newbie? Post by: Twitcher on July 12, 2011, 04:11:15 PM …I will drive my point home and yet somehow become a junior member instead of a newbie.
