Title: What would you do for $5 of bitcoins?
Post by: Anonymous on January 15, 2011, 01:40:01 PM
http://www.fiverr.com/ (http://www.fiverr.com/)

This site has a simple idea of what would you do for $5 ?

People will do some crazy stuff for $5 and recently someone wore  a crazy hat in public holding a bitcoin sign for not much more than $5 worth of bitcoins lol.

So what would you do for $5 worth of bitcoins ?

Bonus points if you actually go through with it!

Funny you should mention that.

I can't think of anything I could do for 5BTC, but ask and I'll try.

I will do something incredibly stupid on my skateboard or bmx and purposely screw up, hurting myself terribly, for 5 bitcoin. I'll put a bitcoin sign somewhere so you know it's me. Any takers?

I'll bite... I can't send payments until I get home tomorrow, but I'll pay up if you post a video and it isn't completely lame.

Any ideas of what you want me to do? A few friends had the idea of dumping lighter fluid on a rail at our skatepark, and then having me grind it on my bike (Don't want to risk burning the skateboard.) I'm pretty good at landing that rail though, so I would have to purposely jump off and land on the rail or something to hurt myself. Actually, I guess that's kind of the idea.

No need to hurt yourself, but a little danger is always exciting.  I'm not sure a flaming rail would be enough fire for me (I'm a bit of a pyromaniac), so it's probably just best to stay away from fire unless you want to do something very dangerous.  Jump something big or do a flip and I'll be happy.  But you're the artist, show me some art ;).

Five bitcoins here and five bitcoins there can add to a lot of luxury. If I were to do anything for any amount, I would want it to consist of something I genuinely take pleasure in. That's what it's all about in the end.

Just a suggestion regarding the stunt ideas (i'm don't have any BTC yet to offer)

How about sewing a cover made of a cut towel around the rear tire of the bike, bathing it in ligher fluid, then do jumps and other stuff with the wheel on fire? (probably a good idea to protect your back and legs with fire resistant material, and have a few friends nearby each with a fire extinguisher and a cell phone to call the ambulance in case somthing goes too wrong)

Or perhaps put a bunch of tenisballs inside the wheel (between the spokes, i'm not sure how they do it, i think it involves (re)assembling the wheel around the balls) and soak them in lighter fluid and put them on fire?

Sounds like a good idea, just one problem. The only place I have with bmx jumps around here is a bunch of dirt ramps made by the community (Mostly skinheads for some reason) down in the baranca. If I were to do anything in the baranca with fire, with all those trees and bushes everywhere, and with how dry it is down here (Southern California,) theres too big a risk of starting a really serious fire. Otherwise, it would have been a good idea.

Make your own takeoff ramps with plywood and do it in the middle of an empty parking lot?

if the stunt biker video goes viral it could be a great way to spread the word about bitcoin!  Just include something like "this painful moment brought to you by bitcoin" at the end or something.

Assuming it isn't a crime in this jurisdiction to incite someone to ridiculous behaviour, I'll send you 100 btc at today's exchange rate if the video gets 5,000 views by the end of May.  Maybe some others will chime in with donations, or bigger amounts for bigger view numbers.

100 BTC? Sir, you have just motivated me to make a video far more dangerous/painful than the one I what I was previously going to make!

How about something like this at the end of the video:
"What could this kid possibly have wanted so much to do this? Find out at http://bitcoin.org.

I like the idea of attaching the payment to the success of the video instead of to making a dangerous stunt, sounds like it makes the pledger a little bit less connected to the stunt , potnetially safer from a legal point of view.

Probably a good idea to include a disclaimer like "The stunts in this video were performed by professionals and/or complete idiots, do not try  doing things like this at home nor anywhere else (but if you do, please video it and post online so we can laugh at you getting severelly hurt)"

I'm paying for views, not for bruises! ;D  In fact just to make sure this doesn't go awry, the offer is only good if you DON'T wind up in a hospital or funeral home.

Anyway, you're selling yourself too cheaply.  You should hold out for more btc out of this forum crew.

Ahahaha! I love it! I'd take out the "professionals" part, and just leave it at complete idiots. I am by no means a proffesional! :D

I still need ideas though. I asked people on facebook, but so far the best idea was, "ride your bike into a mailbox while no handing it backwards," and even if I was good enough at riding backwards to do that, I don't think people would be nearly interested enough in that to get 5000 views. I'm thinking a lot bigger than that.

What skills do you have... bmxing, skateboarding... what about other things that do well on YouTube: play any instruments?  Do humour? Any technical skills that you could make 'how-to' video for?  Can you do animation?  Can you rap?  Any small kids in your household?  Baby videos are always big hits (http://'http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=cute+babies&aq=f').

The only other thing I'm very good at is computer stuff like programming and robotics, but theres so many how-to's for that kind of stuff, it would be hard to get just 1 view.  I play a lot of instruments, but not particularly well on any specific instrument. My humor is too spontaneous to do any kind of standup. I know how to make animations, but only horrible ones. No small kids here. I think the best skill I have in terms of getting peoples attention is the ability to force myself to do things I'm scared of and could potentially injure me.

We now have a few ideas:
  • Put me in a trash can at the top of a crazy, steep, tall baranca hill. Then duct tape the lid shut, and my freinds will run and kick me down.
  • Light my pants on fire, and I will have to jump a fence to make it to safety (The pool on the other side.)
  • Ride full speed down another crazy, steep hill on my skateboard, and then start trying tricks.
Do you think any (or all) of these will get 5000 views?

Exactly. I'm not good at making ideas for things like this. I'm just offering myself to do stupid stuff, but no one came up with anything specific, so that's all I came up with. I'm still open to suggestions.

How about surfing a bike (stand with one foot on the seat and the other on the handlebar) that is being pulled by a car with a rope or chain, going faster and faster, around corners etc, while your clothes are on fire and your "friends" are trying to shoot at you with paintball guns, with the paintballs spiked with liquid from peper sprays?

I'd actually be willing to do that if I wouldn't get in so much trouble (except the pepper spray part. I heard that stuff hurts a ton!) Of course, I probably wouldn't last long at all, but I'd try. Ideas like that guys!

lol, I guess it's kind of one of those fears of the unknown kind of things. I've had my clothes on fire, and I've experienced hitting asphault at high speeds, but I've never touched pepper spray :D

You're in SoCal right?  Probably you run into celebrities all the time down there.  Can you get a video of Paris Hilton with a sign saying "will work for bitcoins" or maybe Charlie Sheen with a sign "bitcoin, for winners"?

It seems thinking of good video ideas is more difficult than one might expect.

Do you know any people that already have a YouTube channel and get a few viewers regularly?

Lightning Network and other second-layer upgrades will have happened and transactions will be instantaneous and free. Also, the $5 worth of BTC from this thread would be worth tens if not hundreds of millions today.
