Title: Video: identifying and attempting to fix an asic miner
Post by: symphony X on January 22, 2018, 08:52:37 AM
I came across a video of Louis Rossman attempting to fix an antminer d3, looks like Bitmain use low quality components? anyway disassembly of unit starts around 9:00 minute mark

It looks like the person that owned that miner was an idiot. There is corrosion all over those cards, you cant blame bitmain for that.

Yeah corrosion all over, I think he said the owner placed the miner in front of an air conditioning unit or something. So what's the likely cause of those corrosion? High humidity in the area? and or the rapid heating and cooling cycle of the components?

I'll be purchasing some asic miners soon, I hope to minimize/avoid these types of problems. Thanks.

If you are running AC to cool your miner, you are already doing it wrong. AC will eat into your profits in a huge way.

Think about when you use canned air for too long. The temperature delta where you are spraying it is rather huge and creates instant condensation and residue. Blowing cold AC directly onto a very hot heatsink will do something similar and you can see the results in the video.

Nope, never planned to use AC units to cool the miners, electricity cost is a bit high in our country.  :(

Thanks for the info.
